and to be honest I'd rather people were having fun with their dogs than worying about some percieved 'flow' in my head because a at the end of the day if you let somethign as fun as dogs and bikes worry you what are you going to be like in the future

Why you…hm, actually, I'd better check the milk situation because it IS nearly tea time.

My dog is more trail trained than most mtb'ers I come across at trail centers, he also rails the berms better than most

I know what you mean! I've yet to encounter a dog that decides to take a rest in the centre of the trail on a corner of a downhill bend. Amazing how often that happens…

I keep taking my dog out for walks an some **** cyclists keep spoiling the tranquil karma of the rural footpath network

I will probably get one when the weather turns a bit

You obviously don't live anywhere North of the Cumbrian border then… 🙁

Well I ended up going for the Menja 130mm. Lovely fork with the nicest shock absorbing action I've come across.

In the end the choice came down to axil to crown lengths. The Menja was the shortest of the 130mm's at 498mm, giving me sharper handling for the same travel as the bike's original spec. A good compromise I think.

What a great bike it is too. That brutal, mechanical TARA monocoque still looks startlingly radical even in these days of sinuous top tubes and hydroformed pipes.

I did fancy a Fritzz. Cube do lovely bikes, but the Fritzz in cream, gold and chocolate is just stunning…

Black never goes out of fashion though 😉

Extremely useful on the bike. The iPhone is as close to the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy as it is possible to get at the moment. It's completely brilliant…and I really can't stand Apple either!

I don't think I've ever seen such an overwhelming vote in favour of a particular fork before. Rockshox really do seem to have sorted their stuff out. That's really interesting in itself.

Anyone ever tried Fox XTT forks?

That's exactly why I'm debating the need for travel. I think Marzocchi's ETA system is the best solution for most situations. That or a lock out.

    Maybe Magura Menja 130mm…

Possibly! I'm still in two minds about fork lengths too. (140mm on 130mm frame). But yeah I could be interested.

I agree with both of those comments! :-/

    Therein lies the problem…

SO it's really a question of fixed travel vs adjustable.

Yep it's an 05, but the frame design is very similar (if not identical). I'm actually really surprised at the sort of punishment that it's being asked to take.

How is that rear shock holding up?

Wow. That's one seriously customized rig. You've built it up as a big hitting dh beast! A very versatile frame then. I'm looking for long distance all- mountain versatility. 140mm forks are so much easier to source. Love the spare tube by the way!

Anyone care to show their rig? I'm builing up from a frame and it's hard to get a decent shot of the 06 fully built.

    Thanks guys. Greatly appreciated!

I moved to 170mm due to sore knees. I did notice the difference on Tarmac in terms of spinning. It also allowed me to line up my knee over the pedal axis more easily. 175mm cranks are pretty standard on most bikes and really don’t take in to account a rider’s size. It’s certainly worth checking out this sort of biomechanics stuff online.

it depends on what you’re doing. I’m guessing that your bike came with 2.3’s, and that makes sense on a 5 for that whole all-mountain lark. 2.1’s are more cross country. They tend to be lighter and faster rolling, as well as tighter to control. That’s a generalisation though of course. I rode with a set of 2.3’s on my bike at glentress last week and found the ride excellent. This week I completed the same run on 1.95’s and looking back there was little difference in the ride experience. Unless you’re struggling with standover or saddle hight issues, you’d probably best to stick to 2.3’s on the 5. Tyres are damned expensive after all :-/
