Adding a down tube shifter will be the cheapest, but might not be the most practical, depending on what sort of riding you do.

aero spokes on the mavics, but the hand built would be easier to replace if a spoke broke? This might not be a problem depending on the use of the bike, eg racing?

It ridable in all weathers i’d say but does get very wet with standing / flowing water, so you’ll get soaked whatever. It’s all solid round that way so won’t get boggy though and is great fun. Are you going wet to east?

I thought the whole thing was really well done. Just a shame for all the families who had come along for the cycle festival that it tipped it down!

I was able to hang onto the ‘wiggins group’ for a while and that made my day.

Did anyone see the smart 4 x 4 in the ditch on the way in to the finish? opps!

Yep, easily done. You just need to remove the cables, position the inline brakes on the bar and then cut the brake cable outer in the correct place. Push the outer into the inline brake and re thread the cable.

They work independently of the sti’s, so you can use either.

I’ve had mine a few months and found it to be great for both on and off road. I have the trail package with os mapping, which is great both on and off road. I found I’ve have now been scouring the os map and found interesting trails. I could have done this with a traditional map, but have to stop to read it. The ability to use other people’s routes is great. Have a look at garmin connect and sign up and see. I’m happy with mine, but it is alot if money.

The bog standard map that you get with the base package is useless, so budget for a new set of maps or research open source mapping.

I have the same stem at 60mm and mount it on the clamp. I’ve had no issues mounting it on any size stem combination. The mount works well and is very secure.

could the BB spacers be at issue? are they made of plastic or metal. the hope plastic spacers have a tendancy to compress, so now they all come with metal spacers.

Just to reiterate the problem, My Hope BB started creaking. Took it out to change the bearings and the drive side fell out of the shell. I had the plastic spacers as well. Looking at the non drive side, the threads were very worn. Fortunately no damage to the BB shell. I’ve sent the whole bb back to hope for hopefully a warranty replacement with the alu spacers.

I’ve got one and it’s great. I have a 140mm float on the front and find the front end a bit light going up steep hills, but this is more than made up for going back down. The stock wheels from my 08 one were pants, but it bad some nice kit on it such as a carbon seat post and xt bits.

    I would recommend it.

Maybe try a new rear tyre? I get on well with the specalized road tyre with the puncture protection in them. For twenty quid it might be worth a shot, and if successful you can swap the front.
