It seems pointless turning it down in my situation, it only comes up at 1°C per hour at best, during that time it is a 2kW heater on constantly. I run it at 39°C all the time, unless I’m away for three or more days.

yup, 3-5 times a week all year round. As little as 15 minutes, as much as two hours a time depending what I’m up to, lovely after after a cool night ride, even better when there’s snow on the ground.Cut costs if you like by only using weekends and filling each time using gas, probably drop by 2/3rds in my experience.

I’d run the hot taps for about a minute as hot as possible before opening.

Avro works out cheapest for me, 1920’s 3 bed semi externally insulated with 18 year old boiler. 2 adults, 1 kid. Up until the installation of giant kettle in garden we used 4000kwh electricity and 21000kwh gas. Pre-insulation that was 28000kwh gas. Installing the outside kettle puts us nearer 10000kwh electricity too. Wife and girl favour nightly baths. In addition, apparently lighting up the entire house is normal whether you are in any of the rooms or not, in fact it is normal even when you go out the house to work/school.
Edit – the addition of a Phev this month is pushing the leccy up a little too I guess, but not too much as I plug in at work most days. This will contribute about 600kwh maximum of the total above.

I bought one two weeks ago, ebay seller £249. Great performance so far, coming off the back off two £150ish elephones over the last four years. Much better cameras and gps than the cheaper elephones. Very slick response to touch, fingerprint and facial recognition. Very easy transfer process from old Android phone too. Would buy another.

As above, but in addition remember to heat both parent metals uniformly. I like you tube for learning but also find Lucas Milhaupt and Vac Aero to be a good source of knowledge https://www.lucasmilhaupt.com/en-US/brazingfundamentals/properbrazingprocedure/

furnace brazing is what floats my boat, I do it every day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfvDhJAbOkU&t=1s

November 65 plate 308sw, much prettier than the previous VW. Plenty of room in the boot and far less dull than the VW. However, constantly calling for Adblue (4k and 8k so far), integrated touchscreen is irritatingly slow and always freezes when selecting DAB stations from steering wheel. Aluminium gearknob is painfully cold in winter and painfully hot in summer. Most miles are urban with 10% motorway ish. Would still choose it over the boring VW, but only just. I must get an old glove to put over that gearknob though…..

Thanks for the comments and the offer of the triban 500, he has decided he would prefer new.
He likes the look of the ribble 7005 sportive.
We went in decathlon this morning and he threw his leg over the 500 + 520se, neither are the prettiest but he has gone for the 520.
Also kudos to the staff member in Decathlon Wednesbury – very helpful.
    Thanks again

balance either side of the flue on the gas boiler in the garage, dry in less than 24 hours every time. boiler does HW and CH duties. combine with Aldi waterproof socks for extra dryness if needed.

Once Staybright windows knocked my front door. When I answered I must have had a look of dejection on my face as the guy said “Don’t worry mate, I am not trying to sell you anything!”. His face looked even more dejected when I said “That’s a shame as I wanted to refit the whole house top to bottom, I had better call Everest or Coldseal”. I shut the door and went back to my brew.

That reminds me of the joke:
A kid was crying at the side of the cut in Tipton. A copper came along and asked “Why are you crying?”. The kid said “my mates fell in the cut”. Quick as a flash the policeman jumped in the canal and dived for ten minutes, eventually he climbed out and said “sorry kid, I tried my best but I think your mate has drowned”. The kid said “Not my mate! My meat (mate) out of my sandwich”.

As a certified Yam Yam it always make me smile that so many accents and pronunciations differ in such a relatively small area. I am based around Darlaston and Wednesbury yet struggle to tune my ear to the Gornal accent, very often it sounds almost German to me.
The Walsall insistence on putting a “U” in words with “OO” in is also very distinctive, School becomes Skewul and Food becomes Fewud.

This guy and his wife are a couple of bottles of Red a week types. I have bought six different bottles of Shiraz for £80, that should see him right over Christmas.

With some questions in the background at work I have figured out he is a big Shiraz fan, so half a dozen bottles or so should do it. Thanks for all the suggestions.

A little more work on my part may be needed then, I will make some subtle enquiries tomorrow to see if I can narrow down the choice of red wine he likes. I have been told that someone else is getting him port so I will concentrate on the wine.
