That’s not a bad shout I guess, although if it’s Mark Regan it can be a bit of a hard listen.

Long time Villa fan, started going when I was six, I’m 52 now. I’ve had some great times over the years but the last twenty years in the wilderness have been miserable, I’ve watched some dross. It’s the hope that gets you isn’t it? Weirdly, for the first time for as long as I can remember I will miss the next two games due to prior commitments, no Chelski or Olympiakos for me. I guess I’m not used to this degree of success and normally expect us to be out of any cup competitions and definitely not challenging at the top of the league. I need to find a bar in Palma, Majorca. Any suggestions?

Using the 2900 rule my 1930’s externally insulated 3 bed semi, 110m square needed 5.5kW. Using heatpunk, it came in at just over 5kW. Got a property survey done by Heat Geek approved and it came in at 5.5kW. The estimate then proceeded to size up to 7kW and add buffer storage. Post grant was £8k. At least £3k of that is heat geek guarantee as far as I can see. That cost isn’t justified imo. As touched on above the quality of installers is not great yet, the good ones are hide to find. There’s also a degree of pocketing some of the grant money.

I’m choosing to go multi split air to air, half cost to install, run costs similar, and I prefer the flexibility of temperatures across the rooms. Bonus I can install myself relatively simply.

I’d echo the Kia ev6 comments above regarding range. I’d also add I use the 3 pin plug outlet regularly too, the washer/dryer runs off it multiple times per week. Charge overnight at 7.5p, use during peak rate hours. It’s a useful feature that doesn’t seem as common on other cars, maybe the MG’s have it.

As a kid with a broad Black Country accent born in the early seventies I recognise the settings and the general air of anger. I have no problem with the accents either, some of my favourite blue nosers have comically bad accents too! UTV

Under the Charges in detail section any export shows as “Outgoing export” and details the amount immediately below. It mimics the electricity and gas segments of the bill.

I’m with Flicker, review every September, include whatever credit/debit is in the account, divide by twelve and set the direct debit. I’m always in debit over winter and back to zero come September (within £100). While the energy market was fluctuating I reviewed it March time to make sure I am still on track, maybe once in ten years I’ve needed to alter the direct debit to suit.

Daughter just turned 18, similar CTF converted to a junior ISA a few years ago. I/she went with £1 in a LISA. I/she put the remainder in an ISA. I/she had already started a SIPP.

I live in the Black Country and yet despite the grim exterior my e/w 3.6kw set up coupled to an 8.2kw (8.5k installed) battery produces:

2189kWh/annum from solar, sold at 15p=£328.35

2993 kWh/annum to fill battery every night which lasts the remainder of the day, bought at 7.5p =£224.48

438 kWh/annum into house direct each night for six hours while battery is charging at 7.5p=£32.85

730 kWh/annum average per day exported from the battery at 15p=£109.50

Prior to install the usage was 2700kwh/annum at 30p =£810

    Current set up costs -£180.52

Neither of these figures included the standing charge.

“You saved 5.59kWh, earning you 17904 Octopoints – worth £22.38.”

Accurate I reckon, GivEnergy app says 5.60kWh over the two sessions. House load was 2.20kWh during those 3 hours. Battery discharge is capped at 2.6kWh unfortunately.

Moved the daughter and myself to O2 (via Virgin) initially, it turned out the coverage for everyday use was dreadful (Birmingham,, Walsall, Cannock). The cost was on par with Plusnet £6/month (7GB)for me and £8/month(20GB) for her. I’ve now switched her to 1p mobile, £10/month for 25GB, unlimited calls and texts. It piggybacks on EE (same as Plusnet), coverage is as was before and seems quicker too – even inside Villa Park. I’ve left mine with O2 as I have a dual sim phone and use work data if struggling for coverage (Vodafone).

I installed an Ohme 7.6kW at home five years ago for £200, there were grants galore at the time. It’s never missed a beat and ties in well with Octopus, 6hrs at 7.5p, delivers about 25mph so fills the car over two nights if needed. Prior to that I ran the granny charger under the garage door for three years with no bother, that added 7-8mph. It worked comfortably with the PHEV but was more challenging with the full EV but workable. At work I bought two Zappi 7.6kW from Midsummer and our fitters installed them with no bother. We installed them a year apart, the first one went faulty after 12 months and Zappi initially tried updating over the air to fix it but then later replaced for free with no hassle. I resisted the three phase 22kW as most cars are sat on the car park for 8 hours every day anyway. these serve three vehicles five days a week. If I could make do with a granny charger in your situation I would, in my opinion bi-directional charging will become the next step and I would hold out for that style of charger. There doesn’t seem much option at the moment other than a couple of American designs. Octopus recently ran a trial called Powerloop so I imagine UK will catch up soon.

EV6 Gt line – recently travelled to Looe from North Midlands. Stopped once on the way down and added 50Kw (£40) as I had to go to the Newlyn and then the Minack theatre first and didn’t want to be looking for a charger first thing next morning or even on the Minack to looe leg of the trip. Stopped for 21minutes nr. Bodmin, all chargers were functional. Travelled 360 miles that day and finished at the site in Looe with 120 miles range.

Once on site there was a 7kwh charger available which did the job every night ready for the adventures next morning. In theory it should have cost £52 on site but the lovely people at Podpoint didn’t take a penny. Happy with that.

In total I travelled 1200 miles including the return leg a week later for less than £100.

All of the M5 was done at 65mph, then Cornwall was a mix of 60-70 A30,A38,A39,A390 and plenty of b roads.

I’d have thought that cost was similar to petrol/diesel if not better.

EDIT – forgot to include the cost of filling the battery on my return 60kw@7.5p = £4.50

When I switched to Octopus go there was no check made. More recently I switched to Octopus intelligent and they insisted on verifying a charge to the car before completing the switch.

Main bathroom, 2.5 x 2.5m. Completely gutted. Two external walls stripped to brick, replaced with 50mm celotex + plasterboard. Four walls stripped and tiled 600x300mm. Floor lifted, marine plywood and 600x600mm tiles. Corner bath, quadrant shower cubicle and tray, rainfall shower. Toilet. Mirrored vanity unit above sink balanced on a unit. all new lights and extractor fan. All materials cost £4600. A mix of B&Q, plumbase etc, decent quality. Did it all myself. I would estimate 2 guys for 2 weeks if I subbed it out. Was quoted between £8-12k. None of the quotes included the celotex insulation, two of the three wanted to tile over tile.

Divorced in 2019, original mortgage from 1997 wasnt paid off but I did have the money saved to pay it  because the original amount was so small and I’d managed to save the difference. Remortgaged for 18 years on a tracker for two years at low rates so I could buy the ex wife out, then fixed at 1.22% for five years. Three and a half years to go and large overpayments will hopefully mean I have 3 to 4 years left when I exit the fixed rate, by then it won’t be too large and I might pay it off with savings or take a loan. On the whole I’ve made right decisions every time I’ve needed to, be it fixing, variable or tracker. Now, when it comes to energy deals I’m next to useless!

£40k invested. £550 won so far this year. £50 this month.
    1 x £100
    18 x £25
£20k of the above is on interest free credit cards since 2014 so can’t complain at the return being low this year really, just starting to think about moving the bulk of it now interest rates are rising. I may leave £10k in.

I kid you not, the star in question was taking on local punters and others were allowed to view while it was filmed.
I tried to park and ended up parking further down the road as there was no room, it was too busy!

Surprised at the lack of Cannock chase content. I’ve had three or four events over the years. The most notable was the meet up at the German cemetery car park to view/take part with the acts of a well known porn star in the back of a transit. Second best was witnessing at the Katyn memorial a guy standing butt naked with his appendage poking through the passenger window of a car. In the passenger seat was another gentleman with a young lady on her knees in the floor well.

With back seats down it takes two bikes, depending on frame size I might need to take the front wheel out of one to make loading/unloading easier. I’m not precious about my bikes though, scratches and dents galore. Never tried a bike box. A recent airport run took three full sized cases in the boot comfortably.
EV6 is easily the best looking car out in the market place.

I’m fortunate that I don’t pay pay for work use so am not overly concerned at cost but, I agree 25p is a great rate, I typically see 50-65p. I do find the octopus/electric juice card plus app just makes the stopping and charging easier. It also includes non octopus chargers along with the price, availability etc. I also have the bonnet app but opened it once and realised there is so much less choice and information available. Often I don’t plan a route as such, I’ll stick Waze on and after 150 miles I’ll check what’s available and go from there. I’ve never got stuck yet.
Not so sure on the looks of the i5, I am old though (50), it’s just a touch too modern for me. If I could have had an estate with decent charging speed I must likely would have selected that. 😂

I’ll see 4.5mile/kWh+ when running local, 4.2mile/kWh running 55-60mph, 3.5-3.7mile/kWh when doing 70-75mph. I will often see 5+ around local roads. Battery size of 77.4kW.
Forgot to mention the vehicle to load is useful too, I often run the washing machine, dryer and dishwasher from it.

EV6 77kWh driver since march. I’ll get anywhere from 280-350 miles depending on how I drive. recent “long” trips all from the Black Country include, Anglesey, Portsmouth, Malton North Yorkshire, Portsmouth, Hillingdon numerous times and Farnborough twice. I’ve quickly learned that the speed of charging is key. I’ve never had a problem charging immediately on arrival at the station and only once have had an issue with a charger not functioning and there were plenty of other chargers available on that occasion. I started out using ABRP and Zap map but in early may adopted Electric Juice app via Octopus and have not needed to bother with the others. I may break the other apps out for a trip to Edinburgh in September. I have seen speeds of 225kWh regularly however, in march 100-125kWh was more typical. 200 miles of additional range can be added in as little time as 10 minutes up to 30 minutes when colder. Often on the 300-350 mile round trip journeys I have to choose between cruising at 55-60mph and not bothering to charge or travelling 70-75mph and stopping once for 5 minutes or so. The availability of 100kWh+ chargers is tremendous on the trips I’ve taken. The cost of charging at stations seems comparable to fuel costs, if not slightly cheaper.

I love these threads, so many talented people in here. I’m manager/technical bod for a brazing/heat treatment shop. We help design and braze/treat parts in their thousands every day. Most of them are humdrum automotive, aerospace and industrial parts but we also do satellites, fusion reactors, hadron collider and even Reynolds tubing for bikes. I love my job but most of all I love bringing through young talent, although I’m not sure they are ever as passionate about brazing as I am.

So how do you refer to what the rest of he country calls (traffic) islands as above?

Not sure! Probably just ‘the crossing’. My driving instructor called them ‘pedestrian havens’ which makes sense but sounds a bit formal.

Same here, crossings or safe havens as my instructor also told me 30 years ago

Great car, no problems in three years. You do have to adjust your habits because everything is pretty much controlled by touchscreen. Make sure you lower radio volume and turn off air conditioning/heating before you get out of the car so you don’t get deafened, frozen or boiled when you get back in the following morning. I seem to recall it could take thirty seconds or so before it would allow any adjustment.
