Large frame, no a porker running 2.4 Ardent on the back with no noticeable problems, don’t run the shock super plush though.

Hi Alpha, you ride locally then?
Looks like the diggers are heading in to clear Newgale road in the next day or 2.

I feel for you. This is why I’ve never bothered with strava.
Maybe just go out + set up loads of random segments all over the area, so the sensitive trails that won’t cope with increased use by people that don’t understand access/sustainable use e.t.c. get “hidden”.

Out of interest, why don’t you like the Gyro?

    I hear you.

    Job has got allot crappier.
Patients get shorter appointments, with more junior staff, all numbers rather than quality driven. Incidents of bullying have increased. Goodwill is heavily relied on + staff do lots extra because they care, burning themselves out in the process. Litigation is a constant threat hanging over you whilst you are forced into more + more extended roles. I’ve not seem morale this low for 20 years.

If you take into account increased pension contributions for a worse pension, contracts being redrawn so that we can be expected to work anywhere in 3 (Big rural) counties with no travel costs e.t.c. covered, we’ve effectively had a significant pay cut.

Stress / depression / anxiety are intimately linked. Lots of research on this. There was a big prospective study in the states that looked at a whole load of risk factors (Disc bulges, OA in the facet joints e.t.c. observable on scans) and the only thing that showed a good correlation with ongoing pain was depression.

Managing this side of things and how stress e.t.c manifests itself physically as well as its cognitive and emotional impacts can have a really positive impact.

I can get an ardent 2.4 in the back end of my Gyro if thats any help. Also a bike that always seems to end up going very fast.

They are great for exploring, opening up new technical challenges + getting places you’d struggle on a normal MTB. Also make riding with your kids a hoot. Great for winter training, riding crazy off camber rocky techy as well as the sandy snowy stuff. I don’t really like the attention, but you learn to cope with it + if you’re riding cheek the reaction is generally amusement rather than hostility. Lots of fun, different, nowt to get too upset about.

Satmaps are great for navigation, big screen, reasonably tough, decent battery life.

Had some wheels off him as well. Dead helpful, delivered when he said. Would definitely go back. I guess its not a big operation so he maybe gets swamped at times.

What DaveR said. 2nd hand Gyro frame, so far coped well with bikepacking, epic rides and trail centre dad- rad. Very fun fast feeling bike.

Pretty much what Lifer + Junkyard said. Use a bit of common sense, respect + ride sustainably. Scotland shows that it can work fine.

Just back from a multiday bikepacking trek up north wearing their 3/4 bibs. They were 100% ace, warm enough, cool enough, dead comfy for days on end. Similar positive experiences with jerseys + gillet.

Gill of the bikeshed had some singlespeed/disc + IIRC geared disc drop outs made which worked well. I’m not sure if any are still in existence.

The crags above Duncraig + surrounding woods used to have some decent trails, but its years since I’ve been up.

Raced a horrifically muddy 24 + then 12 on it, ridden trail centers without dying, done Transcambrian on it, about to do a big highland bike packing tour on it. As a good adaptable fast riding HT it works very well.
Had some creaking issues which were eventually sorted by regreasing everything and using a torque wrench on the drop out bolts.

Can you get a decent sized rear tyre in there?
