Agreed. Even earlier on today when it was raining (but still really warm), it was holding up really well. Sunny this afternoon + tomorrow, should be great. Look forward to seeing you fly past, Matt. You riding then Mad Al?

Definately entries on the line, but better if you can get there in good time (Starts at 10.00 from the rugby club)
    Info here
    Course is looking good.
Now with added Singletrack spot prizes! (Thanks Sim, Matt)

    But it'll hurt in a good way…

Course is looking great, theres been allot of work done on the new sections, which contrast well with the exisiting bermtastic swoopfest.

I'm fairly certain there'll be entries available on the line + the forcast is looking good :-)
Will be there, as will Rowan Sorell apparently…

I've mailed you Matt as well.
I'm sure between us we can come up with some decent local rides that don't end up in hub deep mud or blackthorn + bramble filled ditches disguised as bridleways.

    Indeed.
Lets get something organized then. Ride + pint sometime?

You up for a ride/nightride sometime then?

Might be worth giving These a shout.
Very helpful, but probably busy getting everything ready for the enduro on the 16th.

Just got sent some of the numbers for the route.

    Total descent distance 21.9KM
    Total level distance 2.73KM

    Sounds ACE!

    Great place to ride.
There's some brand new singletrack that'll be included in this years enduro on August the 16th http://www.bikebrechfa.co.uk/events.htm

    No idea.
    Radar Review was about right.
I have a 2.25 one on the front of my XC bike + its ace for speed but with enough grip to corner well at an angle + coped brilliantly with Mayhem roots + 95% of the mud. The 2.4 has deeper tread + is better in loose conditions canning it down steeper stuff. Got a 2.25 on the rear of my Soul (HRer up front 'natch) + its great for
trail centre / rocky / technical + fast stuff, can kick out on muddy climbs. Running them both tubeless on UST rims fine.

    Agreed.

OK on the rear. Fast rolling e.t.c but pretty sketchy in mud + wouldn't like one on the front hitting wet slate/roots. Liking Ardents just now.

    Cheers gav, will do.
Nice one Phil. You’ll be getting caught practicing you cross stepping on kerb stones soon then
Getting out at beachies when its big is a nightmare, but on the points a big board on big days is ace.
Nice little wave at Whitesands last night + this evening on the drop.

Now that looks more like it, you can see the leaverage he’s getting out of the paddle in the 2nd shot. I’d struggle to get that vertical on my mal in waves that size. Interested…
Quad sounds good, (loving the versatility + speed of my 6′ 4″). Whose shaping it for you? Epoxy?

LOL @ Phil. Sounds like Guts.

with a sup you have the paddle to lean on. gives you heaps of leverage to unweight the board, a short sup is definitely more chuckable in small waves.

I can see how thats true in theory, + guys like Oli (bigblue) can chuck his board around with the best of them, but never seen anyone do a proper Luke Egan yet.
I’d be interested if I felt you could crank it up in waist high conditions. Have you tried using a paddle with a progressive mal? Its something I’ve thought about giving a go. Like the idea of being able to generate speed quickly, get in to the wave early + then have a pivot to work around.
I get the impression SUPs are evolving the way longboards did a few years ago with some very good riders pushing the limits of what the boards are capable of. Be interesting to see where they go in the next few years.

Perhaps we should sort out a Singletrack surf meet??

Any other South Wales surfers on here?

    Live 5 mins from Newgale.
Was lush glassy 2′ last night, perfect on the longboard. Wouldn’t be without one for days when theres not enough juice to get the quad going.

We’ve some good local SUPers down here, who stay away from the line up + are good watermen. But I’m not tempted, as anything they go in would be more fun on a progressive mal. Unless you are very good, SUPs + Mals over 10′ are a liability in the line up IMHO. Plus if the swells smaller than a decent mal can cope with, its bike-time.

Talk to local shapers about your needs/level of surfing.
Guts sorted me out with my quad + its far + away the best/most fun board I’ve ever ridden.

Have you been checked for sensory or motor deficit by anyone? I’m an Osteopath & if someone came to see me that would be the first thing I did, followed by the strong suggestion that a visit to a neurologist would be in order (unless there was something obviously wrong which was suitable for my type of treatment). X-rays are probably not the investigation of choice, an MRI (or possibly CT) scan of the head and neck would be more use, but more expensive. I’d want it checked & soon.

It could be anything from the first sign of Multiple Sclerosis through to plain anxiety, and anything inbetween.

Please get this investigated properly by a qualified professional.. IE skilled GP who does a full neuro exam including cranial nerve testing, babinski + clonus tests (as well as the standard) then Neurologist if appropriate. It may well turn out to be something eminently treatable, BUT these sort of persistent worsening symptoms warrant proper investigation.

Been distracted by surfing too much last few months to train on the bike as I should have.
At least now its looking like paddling/swimming skills’ll come in handy on the course.

All good advice. Plus stay well out of the way of other water users until you know what you are doing + understand wave riding etiquette / how individual breaks + line ups work.
We get allot of kite surfers at Newgale, most are cool + stay away from the surfers but the odd one needs “educating”.

What the man said. Take lights + do Nant Yr Arian Summit trail and/or Climach-X on your way past.
But don’t bother trying to cane it on roads in between. Twisty / farm traffic / speed traps…
    Enjoy

Cheers guys. Embarrasingly just found this again, so sorry for the late reply.
Tracked down most of the trails you mentioned NiloC, but need to do some more exploring around Crymych Newport when its a bit dryer. Did I meet you the other week at great pale woods?
Will head up to Brechfa on a night ride sometime with the brechfa mtb club guys.
    Thanks again.

I’ve had my moments mate. Missing the trails + people allot :(
But the local cheek is good, living 5 mins from the beach is good, Holly having about a million 2nd cousins nearby, most of who we were out in the water with yesterday is good. Looking forward to your visit. 8)
