Terrible interview. Really interesting guy and all you come away with is that. Missed opportunity.

Apply this to other situations now, but found this useful when surfing new / heavy breaks, particularly after a couple of nasty wipeouts. Sounds a bit hippy, but works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df6DPsRKqh4

Was lucky enough to meet him a couple of times, watched him illuminate distant hill tops with his lights, sampled his equally powerful home-brew and had many quality night rides thanks to his lights and your batteries Smudge. RIP thoughts are with his family and friends.

UK in summer is always going to be hit / miss with surf. SW Kernow, W coast Ireland, Hebrides or North coast Scotland will be more likely to have swell but you can be lucky or not. That said we had cranking surf on the BH weekend in August, so you can be lucky. If it happens to be flat and theres no decent riding might be frustrating?

    Secret spot tsk!

Listen to your surgeon / physio. They’ve seen the MRI’s and know how best to advise you. Fat bike opens up low speed low impact but interesting riding in a neutral position. Just a thought.

No CCTV footage anywhere? Sounds like someone who visits those flats clocked it, did a google and came back tooled up at a later date. Not an easy bike to shift inconspicuously so like others have said, hopefully will re-appear.

Some good riding from Newport itself. Head along the A487 towards Dinas, turn left up the bridleway just before Dinas Cross, up the Bstard steep concrete track lots of options across the toot Carnigli or you can head down into the Gwaun for a pint at Bessie’s. If you want to go big, you can then head up the bridleway at the Eastern end of the Gwaun to GelliFawr and up onto the Presilis or round the southern edge of Foel Eryr and back down into the Gwaun. Whichever route can then take to to the Bridleway at the Eastern end of the Gwaun, which head the steep track past farms to skirt round Carnigli, where its possible to get cheeky.
Bear in mind Newport is full of retired teachers who love telling you off. A cheery smile and reply in Welsh sees em right.

Sorry to be clear Rabbit hole was fine up front. Too tight for my liking at the back…

I tried a rabbit hole rim on a mk I and clearance was waffer thin. On a Wide lightening rims an ardent 2.4 was OK in summer, but not enough mud clearance for winter 2.2 and 2.3 tries of various shapes and sizes all seems fine.
    Great bike.

Only managed a couple of rides on my RM 950 Instinct BC so far, but seems to pedal climb and descend well. Basic spec is good. Tubelessed the wheels with Stans 25mm tape, changed the grips and will change the dropper to a reverb when funds allow, but a great bike and very adaptable with the ride 9 system.

Minion 2.5 3C front if you want proper grippy, Minion DHR II 2.3 front and back, WAY better than the old DHR’s have been great so far. Ardent 2.4 rear, Hans Dampf trailstar front in “summer”. XR 4’s seem a good general compromise tyre.

Surely the guy requested pics before buying? Do these not show that side of the frame?

Belief in omipowerful supernatural entities who have only communicated with humans through obscure means which rely on personal testament, which is known to be a flawed way of ascertain truth and is inevitably distorted by cultural and environmental influences, is not rational. Adhering partially to the texts that emerged from the political wranglings about who is most closely able to guess at the will of these mythical beings, despite the obvious contradictions and huge amount of evidence to the contrary (The earth is older than 6000 years, evolution, etc etc) is not a sensible basis for making any decisions on, let alone justifying abuse and murder.

If you want to try a cheap Stooge frame and forks I’m about to sell mine. Love it, but wrists and thumbs are too knackered to cope with riding a rigid bike.

They want you to by a full bike. New hub standards, which are likely to become part of new design spec for lots of 29ers, fork that properly fits a 3″ tyre, means this makes allot more sense as a package.
    Bet it rides well.

Wife is having radiotherapy just now, so a small idea of what sort of things you are going through.
Like allot of others followed your inspirational reclaiming of life.
You’ve beaten the odds before. You know that nothing is certain in this realm and that positivity is a powerful thing.

I’m guessing the torque the rider applies to the chain and change in body positioning, muscle use, e.t.c. from cranking a slightly bigger gear (in most cases even though there will be some overlap) also affects things.

Will be bunging a b+ wheel on the back of the Stooge at some point. 29+ front /29 works great so will be interesting to try.

    What did you go for?

Wide lightnings. Rear pick up isn’t quite up there with Hopes, but (touch wood) fine over the winter. Nice light, wide enough, stiff and resilient enough, work well tubeless, ( I ride steps/rocky stuff routinely).

Agree. Actually really good technical climber. You can move around allot on the bike, it feels like it has a low centre of gravity, combined with big grippy tyres its very capable. Lighter wheel set made a difference for me on longer days with lots of climbing. Maxi Chronicle up front is perfect IMHO.

Mo Stooge. Widelightning rims, Chronicle front Ardent back. Ace.

RC200, Trek 69er Rootbeer SS, Stooge. Not necessarily in that order.
