35 posts and no one has mentions condoms as essential kit for teenagers going to a festival? Or is that just too obvious? 🙂

I had a guy miss me by about 3″ when I was sat at red lights in the cycle box (but still to the left of the road). I was just about to knock on his window when I realised his battle-axe of a wife, who was in the passenger seat, was already giving him a severe grilling for his actions: “Did you even bloody see that cyclist Norman!”. I could tell instantly he was one of those poor blokes who’s wife has his balls in a vice so I decided not to add to his misery.

I ride with a cheap Casio watch, my phone with Strava and, if it’s a long ride, a ‘juice pack’ portable battery charger for my phone. Really fancy one of those Garmin’s which has a map on the screen like a car Sat Nav, but can’t justify the £££s.

Agree with the posts about looking for stuff being stripped from other offices. We managed to get 3 Okamura Contessa’s on ebay for about £250 each from a bank that was being refurbed. They are great chairs. Cheap chairs that I used to think were OK now feel horrible in comparison. but unfortunately the Contessas cost about £950 new.

It’s a bit like bikes, when you first start out you may think a £100 bike feels OK but as soon as you’ve ridden one that costs £1000 you can’t go back.

    Brayton for the WTF!!!!!

Might not be a bad shout! He just beat Gee Atherton and Brook McDonald at the BDS.

The weirdest bonk I’ve ever had was over Christmas. I decided on a whim that it would be a good idea to ride from the South coast to London to hand deliver Christmas cards to some relatives. I hadn’t really planned it and only had one ’emergency’ gel in my pack and didn’t have a lock with me so didn’t want to stop at a shop for supplies and leave my bike outside. On the way back (after about 70 miles) I hit the wall. I went a bit emotional and started singing to myself (like one of those nutters you’d cross the street to avoid) as I tried to pedal. A few miles later a traffic light turned to red as I approached. As the light changed I got a strong wave of emotion – a mix of anger and helplessness that I’ve only ever felt before when someone’s given me news of a family bereavement! At that point I decided it was definitely time to throw in the towel and get the train. Thinking back to it now it seems properly mental. 😳

Yep, turned my 9 miles into 52. Was going to stop at 30 but decided to make the most of the weather and add an extra loop.

Months in an enclosed space, then given that it’s likely a one way trip you’d be stranded on a desert planet never to feel the rain or the wind against your skin until you die, separated from the people that love you by millions of miles of barren space.

Quiet you! you’re ruining my idealistic vision of a Star Trek mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before…

I had read that even at full fitness this year’s course wouldn’t have suited him and it would have been unlikely for him to successfully defend his title. Still a shame though.

To be honest I’d sign up right away if I could, even if there was a 100% chance of cancer. I’m not being flippant about cancer, I just think the opportunity is amazing.

I’ve just entered with “The Rusty Sprockets”. Hoping Danny smashes Fort Bill, then probably sub him out for Stevie Smith.

I thought this idea was cool, and easy to do yourself- simple round cake with an action figure breaking though:

I Should mention that’s one of many made by my mate’s sister – Mum’s Cake Company worth a look for those of you in the Sussex area.

Thanks, will try that if noone else knows the part ( the problem I’ve got is its not my bike and I’d like to get the parts before he brings it round so I can swap the bearings out and give the bike back the same day as I’ve got nowhere to store it whilst I wait for parts to be delivered.

A real shame, was enjoying this years Giro – the first road race I’d ever followed closely – but this has just left a sour taste. The DH World Cup season can’t start soon enough now!

I’m interested in this, looking to do some lengthy rides and it’s on my doorstep.

PS DrP – it’s Josh that sometimes rides on a Tuesday evening.

I find random items of clothing that the girlfriend doesn’t like for whatever reason “go missing”. It’s a strange phenomenon.

I’ve running cheapie superstar wheels directly connected to a pair of top-of-the-range Marzocchi 55rc3tis. Do I need to see a priest and seek forgiveness for my unholy ways? Or am I doomed to a fiery hell?

I ride a 160mm bike most of the time at the moment, its so much fun on the downs I don’t mind not being the fastest on the ups! One thing I’ve found is the guys who go on about this “overbiked” rubbish are often the same ones that sit out when we find a fun jump or drop to session on a ride.

What Rich said, when fitted you may need to pump the lever a few times but that should be it.

    From the links above:

Opening the prosecution case, Stewart Trimmer QC said: “This was not a road accident, this was deliberate murder. The weapon chosen was a car.”

Slightly different to an absent minded white man van.

Thanks for the heads up, Just ordered one. Annoyingly just before I read the comment about the Medium being snug on 38-40″ chest, might be a tight fit! 😳

My 2 cents… Having a 2nd child should be something want to do, not something you feel you should do. My other half is an only child and she turned out ok!

    EDIT:

IME most couples with one child had tried for more but it didnt work out.

    – This is true for my girlfriend mentioned above.

Probably almost as difficult as it is for Swiss and Norwegian companies to sell stuff into the EU.

Yeah, but why make it harder for yourself? I work in a industry with tight margins already, the extra overheads to cut through the red tape every time we exported to Europe would potentially make us have to raise our prices and become uncompetitive. Free trade within Europe is a legitimate argument for staying in Europe, not sure why you tried to make me sound like a idiot for stating it. 😕

I don’t think that you are competent enough to choose the interior decoration in your house, therefore I will decide it for you.

The decoration of my house does not have rippling effects across everyone in the UK and the rest of the world.

My company sells a lot into Europe, it would make it a lot more difficult for us, and probably impact negatively on my livelihood. I think it’s a very complex issue that needs to be decided by economists who fully understand it and a referendum would be a terrible idea and the general public does not really understand it (myself included).

9 flat but sometimes very windy miles each way, everyday rain or shine. I get a bit grumpy on the odd occasion that I have to drive or take the train now! Did it for years on a tatty old MTB with slicks until it died, then I brought a cheapy singlespeed for crap weather and a cross bike for nice days. Currently looking for a new job and the ability to ride there is serious consideration.

I remember a feature in MBUK years ago where Rob Warner had turned up to a shoot in a Ferrari 355 (when it was one of Ferrari’s current line up).

I read an interview with Rob where he said it was completely different when it was covered by main stream TV. As soon as the TV trucks disappeared so did most of the cash.

Hi Ray, just to let you know it doesn’t display properly on iOS (iphone and i’m guessing iPad as well). Text comes up in a thin white box down left side. Can upload a pic if you want to see what i mean. You probably need an alternative CSS for mobile devices/smaller screens.

He does seem to be having some bad luck at the Giro, be interesting to see how he does tomorrow in the TT.

Also I’m not watching on TV, just reading some live text feeds, but it sounds like the Giro has been carnage, loads of crashes! (this is also the first road race I’ve really followed so this may be normal?)

Not For me, I’d booked off next Friday for a nice long weekend trip to FOD and Afan, only to have the guy who was giving me a lift to turn up at my door this morning….ooooppss I’d put wrong date in the diary…what a f***wit. So this morning at ‘work’ has been spent working out how I can get everything ready as quickly as possible after work and drive the 4hrs to Wales before everyone has gone to bed.

It was 32kg when I flew march 2012, shouldn’t be too much off of a problem for most people – I had an evoc bike bag with a heavy, freeride specced, Orange Alpine 160, a few of tools inc. a large pedal spanner, body armour, backpack, full face and shoes and it came to 32 Kg exactly (I hadn’t read the terms and the baggage handler pointed out that if it had been heavier i would have had to pay more) . Unless you’ve got a really meaty DH bike I think it’s a fair allowance.

One I’ve noticed recently is zipped hoodies with the zip completely undone but the cords that come out of the hood tied in a little bow at the top. Odd. Also agree with skinny jeans, especially the ones that are skinny but with a low crotch – theses are the height of trouser twatery.

I’d be training myself to do 3 days worth of riding on the trot by riding for 3 days on the trot.

Yep, it had occurred to me, but finding 3 days in a row with 3 or 4 hours spare is hard. I do commute every day (only 40mins each way though, but i’ve be trying to do intervals recently to crank up the intensity).

I’m planning on getting out on all 3 days this bank holiday weekend.

    Fresh padded shorts each day

Wouldn’t most people do this anyway? 🙂
