I think the comparison between assaulting an adult and smacking a child is a bit irrelevant? The kind of force you’d use when smacking (open hand) a child would be laughable to an adult (obviously if you are using the same force that you’d hit an adult with than that is majorly wrong – and you need help!).

I don’t remember being smacked but I did get the odd flick around the ear which provided a suitable short, sharp pain that was unpleasant enough to act as a deterrent without being mentally scarring and strangely I was still able to tell my dad loved me!

It is also perhaps a valuable a life lesson that if you wind some people up enough they will react violently (wrong as this may be).

All that said I don’t have kids yet and not sure how I’d feel about if and when I do.

I love stuff like this, essentially pointless, but people have done it anyway just because they can. Brilliant 🙂

Also – the ratio on that gear! 😯

A more useful equation(just to stop this thread being completely pointless), which seems to get overlooked on the various diet threads (sorry to the people that already know this):

1 lb of fat = approx. 3500 calories

Therefore if you if you eat 3,500 calories more than you burn you put on approx. 1lb and visa versa. Unless you have some medical problem this is why people are/aren’t fat, and also why diets that claim you can lose 1/2 a stone in a week are complete bilge unless you count dehydration.

When did Plumbers start getting called heating engineers? I’ve nothing against plumbers, but surely the guy that designed the boiler is the heating engineer and the plumber is a heating fitter.

that retro bike photo made me think of how much bike geometry has evolved.

Agreed although that old stumpy does appear to have a modern slack head hangle – Don’t fancy the standover height though!

Forget it, sorry for derailing the thread and sorry if I offended anyone.
Think I’ve been reading too many pro cycling things recently were they’re so obsessed with keeping body fat down to remain competitive.

Doesn’t matter if she was 15 stone she still won.

I’m not denying her achievement, I’m just saying the level of competition at the top of an international sport should be so intense that the winners shouldn’t be able carry any excess fat if they wish to remain competitive.

” It is not known whether the Manxman, who also heard boos and jeers during his ride, was targeted deliberately. “

Seems odd, it’s an individual Time trial. It’s not like someone lobbed it into the Pelaton and randomly hit Cav.

Also, I’m not trolling, I didn’t follow Wimbledon but that Bartoli does look a little out of shape to win one of the pinnacle tournaments of a sport. Her level of attractiveness is irrelevant, I just think it says something about the level of a sport if you can win it carrying some extra pounds. Even so those tweets are vile.

I’m sure I read the average age of a console owner is 30ish. That makes me below average (just..). As said above everything in moderation. I don’t play mine that much anymore (less than 3-4 hours a week in the summer I’d say). But have been known to play 12hour sessions if the time is available, the game is very good and it’s raining outside.
I can see myself booking time off work when the new GTA comes out.

Amazingly I’m not obese and I do have an active social life!

Whilst we’re on gamer stereotypes I’ve also played every GTA game since my early teens and have yet to commit a violent crime in real life!

My Girlfriend’s dad had a Ferrari 360 (when that was Ferrari’s current mid-engined model) think it was around £1000 to insure (10+ years no claims, but a few points on his license) which I thought was OK.

Servicing and new rubber costs on the other hand…. 😯

I used to spend much more time at mate’s than my own house (not the same mate all the time, and not as regularly as the OP’s “friend”). There were no major problems at home, my mates were just allowed TVs and Nintendoes in their rooms and I wasn’t allowed either!

She is a vile human being, but I have to admit I flicker of judgement does pass though my brain when I first hear specific names (and I think most people do). If I said there’s a boy called Tarquin and a boy called Wayne most people would get a picture in their head of a toff and a chav.

The difference is I kick myself for being a judgmental **** afterwards, and I certainly wouldn’t stop my kid playing with either.

Also it’s painfully obvious she’s just saying hideous things on TV to fuel her minor celebrity status for as long as possible.

After seperating my shoulder I bought one of these EVS things:

The strapping is good and my shoulder it felt supported and definitively made the rides during my recovery easier, I found the removable hard pad that covers the shoulder a bit uncomfortable so I ended up just using it as brace with no protection. Can’t comment on if it makes a difference when crashing as I never crashed with it.

I also did a lot of research of armoured tops for using when riding DH/Jumps and ended up going for the IXS Hammer as it offers the most complete and adjustable shoulder protection of all the ones I looked at, I’m really happy with it, but probably too hot for XC riding though:

Not quite the same injury(so this could be complete useless to you!), but I separated my shoulder. For those who don’t know this is breaking the ligaments that hold the clavicle to the scapula so you end up with simliar situation of the bone sticking up and not being properly connected. My shoulder felt weak and floppy and the doctor gave me similar advise (don’t operate unless you’re an Olympic javelin thrower!). I had the same reaction as you and went for a second opinion who said the same as the first doc so I decided to trust them.

That was a year ago, I regained full use of the shoulder pretty quickly (3 months-ish and I was back on the bike) and now I am lifting heavier weights at the gym than I ever have. It does sometimes ache, and it doesn’t enjoy full tricep-dips very much, but I can’t imagination a screw in my shoulder would be completely trouble free either.

and her tight-trousered ass-shaking is remarkably unsexy.

Yep didn’t think that video was sexy at all. Probably because I really don’t like short hair cuts on girls. I still would though (but I’m a lot closer to her age than most of you dirty old perverts).

..results in mysterious and hard-to-locate clicks.

Yep, that’s why I’m a greaser – I have a deep hatred of my bike making any creaks or clicks and grease seems to be the best way to avoid this.

Just recently bought Alt-J’s album, it’s very good, but can’t help thinking Breezeblocks is a bit…um…rapey?

“She may contain the urge to run away
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
Germolene, disinfect the scene my love, my love, love, love
But please don’t go, I love you so, my lovely”

Sounds like it to me – outer edge of the chain fouling the inside of the front mech.

Lots of this type of thing from Fox, think a lot of companies are now releasing “trail” or “all mountain” short sleeve jersey that are a bit baggier than the skin-tight XC ones.

It’s McDonald’s Restaurants Ltd, not McDonald’s Self Service Cafeteria Ltd. Why would I need to clear my own table?

This. If it wants to market itself as a restaurant the staff should clear the tables, like a normal restaurant.

Last one just creamed at me that he was deaf whilst I pointed out that this was NOT a reason to ignore looking.

I’d have though deaf people would be more likely to see cyclists. I would think a person with perfect hearing would be more likely to over-trust their hearing and cross because they haven’t heard a car coming and miss the quiet cyclist.

Set up, record, remove, re-charge, re-format cards and repeat every day?

This is what would put me off.

Be careful picking based on Youtube footage, I’ve got a GoPro HD and I’ve yet to get my youtube videos to look anywhere near as good as viewing the footage straight off the card.

Was that the graveyard slot, the afternoon show or the breakfast show? All very different beasts.

Afternoon, when Moyles was on in the afternoon too (before he became too big for his boots)

Do people actually like Radcliffe? I’ve never liked him on the radio (never read his written work.)Just don’t find him funny at all. Always thought Mark and Lard was the worst bit of the Radio 1 Schedule back when I was in sixth form, I don’t remember anyone liking them at the time.

Just a had a peak at her Twitter to see the reaction to this, Apparently she’s dealing with a lot of abuse from cyclists now. Seems unnecessary for one stupid comment. Honestly a bit ashamed of being a cyclist now, as a group we can act like dicks sometimes.

I’d definitely use one of the free site builders (WordPress or Joomla), although it’s worth learning a bit of HTML and CSS so you can play with the existing templates and make them a bit more personalised.

Chicken, Bacon and Avocado, with Mayo and black peeper, on a fresh poppy seed bagel (from the local Bagel shop – I’ve tried to recreate with supermarket bagels, but they are inferior.)

Avocado must always be ripe, nothing worse than crunchy avocado (first world problem)

Excellent. Loved the idea and the filming and riding are both excellent. Even the out takes at the end are excellent (ouch!).

My two tiny nitpicks have been mentioned above; The scaling of the objects makes it hard to tell how big the tricks are and the inclusion of a modern f1 car in an 80s themed video.

Why was your outshed ‘unsecured’? Does that mean it was unlocked?

I guess it’s more likely that the locks/doors didn’t meet all the criteria in the small print.

If you’re a keen cyclist, be prepared to go really slowly! Unless you’re in the first bunch to go you will get held up on any incline. Don’t treat it as a serious ride (you’ll be disappointed), more of a social gathering on wheels. It’s a good day out with mates.

Also be careful overtaking, there are a lot of inexperienced cyclists who won’t look over their right shoulder before pulling out.

To be honest I’ve used my local (shoreham-by-sea) Kwik Fit for MOT and servicing for the last couple of years with no problems. Any issue they’ve ever come up with have been something I suspected before I put the car in. I’d much rather use them that the local official dealer which has a, shall we say questionable, reputation when it comes to servicing costs from a lot of my friends who have used them.
