I was off for 6 years whilst living in The Philippines.

Just getting back in to it (yes, those first rides do show you how much it all hurts and how much less skill you have), but it’s still great fun.

The best bit is realising that whatever width bars you have, whichever wheel size you use, however many gears you have (yada yada yada)2 wheels good!

We got a cheap BT one which has been great (18 months in).

    You don’t need anything fancy.

FWIW, our little one went into his nursery to sleep as soon as we got home from hospital. Brilliant decision!

    It’s a toss up

    a) That I drove to school this morning (the weather’s perfect for a ride home)

    b) I’ve been working on a Mac Book Air (admittedly the super-expensive one) all morning and actually like it. I’ve been a Mac-Hater for years!

Never had a problem with egg beaters (on three bikes).

Just bought an Iodine stem and, well, it’s still stem-like. Looks good too.

when ‘itch’ and ‘scratch’ are swapped i.e. can you itch my back.

    Also, words like ‘basically’, ‘essentially’…

And ‘gotten’. It’s get, got, got (unless you’re American!).

Having read a lot of the posts, I’m starting to feel sorry for the OP.

On the other hand, all I can say is MTFU Princess. I left home at 18 (uni) where my parents did help a little. I haven’t ever been home though (besides holidays) and couldn’t.

It’s worth being broke with your self-respect!

That Flite was my first ever bit of bike bling. A summer’s paper round and butchers boy savings got me one of those, Magura hydraulic rim brakes (frog green) and a Club Roost riser bar

Klipsh stuff is generally excellent re. sound quality. I’ve had some X10s for 18 months and couldn’t be more impressed.

    Thanks for the relplies.

It sounds like I can give bleeding a go. Hopefully I won’t need a new seal simply because I’d imagine Hope spares are less common than say Avid.

My wife’s bike’s sneakily been built up for me to use as a hooligan bike at the swap of a seatpost / saddle. She thinks it’s hers… :) she’s got floating disks now too!

    Oooh, me too please.

Got what.cd, torrentday and thebox invites to swap if needed.

    Thanks for the replies.

    It’s a 26″ carbon HT. My riding style’s probably jey-core-lite :)

I’ve got wider bars on there (Answer Pro Taper 685mm) and at the moment, 1cm of spacer.

I was warned by the mods a few years ago for an obscenity-ridden rant. I’d just finished a brand new build (except attaching the disc rotors). It was midnightish, didn’t have a T25 and couldn’t ride my new toy!

However, I love torx. Far less easy to round. Just swapped a hope stem (hex) for a Crank Bros (torx). There was noticeably less wobble in the torx ‘connection’. That was using an expensive set of ball-head hex keys in ti bolts vs a cheapo Stanley set of torx keys.

    Got kids?

    Send ’em down t’ mine!

Alternatively, what’s your day job? Could you tutor people in your ‘speciality’ / degree subject in the evenings or at weekends?

Swan’s Nest pub car park or Stowey Arms in Exton. The landlords in both’ll let you stay if you ask nicely / buy a pint / breakfast.

    Cheers everyone.

Think I’m in trouble with the wife. Bought the bike (2nd hand) with the idea we’d take it, an Inbred for the wife and the child seat to Thailand when we move there in August.

Guess I should get looking to see where I can get a bike trailer over there!

    Thanks.

How about to the seatpost itself?

    It’s a Thomson (30.9mm, I think) post.

OK I’m a bit out of touch right now, but overall: Avoid E-Series AMD APUS [CPUS with integrated graphics accelerators] and Intel Celeron Chips.

expect to get an integrated GPU at this price!

i3/i5 or A-Series Chips are better.

    so Are i7s!

    8GB of RAM can’t hurt.

It can’t but it’s unlikely you’ll have a CPU that can actually make use of more than about 6Gb (absolute max) in a £350 lappy

Bigger hard discs are also faster, SSD’s are faster still but unlikely at this price unless they’re too tiny.

If you’re talking about short stroking then yes. Otherwise, all laptops are likely to have a 5,000rpm drive. Again, HDD speed isn’t likely to be much of a bottleneck in this system.

I’d spend my money on this.

    Acer Aspire 5742-384G32MNK

I’d also question if you really need a laptop over a PC. Think of things like screen estate for your son doing his homework etc. I currently have a tiny (Samsung NC110) netbook and a much more powerful desktop. I’ve had big / powerful laptops in the past but even they couldn’t come close to matching the productivity of a good desktop.

Debt free here – 29 years old and been to uni. Through working hard with my wife, being pretty frugal and living abroad for the last 6 years.

We use our credit card for all purchases so usually owe £500 ish on it but payed off each month.

Owe my brother-in-law a fiver… never bet when you’re drunk!

Yes. Bloody love it. When you’re wet through to the skin and start deliberately heading for puddles, hopping into mud etc.

There’s no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothing!

I went from Exeter to N. Wales to collect a bike.

Honestly, if it’s the bike you want, just ask yourself ‘would I pay x for the bike + fuel?’ If the answer’s ‘yes’ then do it!

Yep, as an ESL teacher, it’s about dedication. Tutors are best and they’ll only use the target language. Try advertising for a teacher. Local unis (the Lang. Dept.) are good places to ask.

Tapes etc can help but, of course, there’s no one to correct you when necessary.

A holiday to Germany’s the best way!

The more extremely Muslim a country is, the more you’ll earn.

A teacher in Riyadh can earn £100k tax free. The problem was, my wife wouldn’t have been able to leave the compound without being accomapnied by a male relative and wearing a hibiya (sp?)

I can’t believe the prices you saw. Through hertz we got (admittedly not a 7 seater), a Ford Mondeo for 12 days for £186.

Still following with interest. As you’ve done the plod’s work for them, it’ll be even more disappointing if nothing happens to the driver.

They won’t endure (honestly, neither will 26″ MTBs). Having said that, I’ve just bought a new-to-me hardtail with a straight 1 1/8″ steerer and a 26″-er so I’m obviously not worried.

Realistically though, how long will you keep the frame / forks? 5,6,7 years? I can’t imagine the forks disappearing quite that quickly.

JavaScript / JQuery but, honestly, isn’t there another way of doing what you want? Instead of a specific frame, a different video

My first thought was an ova listed head tube too.

Don’t take this the wrong way :) bat as you’re asking if it’s a tapered steerer, are you not esp bike-techy?

It’s times like this that a good LBS can save you a lot of time. Any chance the headset wasn’t fitted correctly?

I don’t remember what I had but I took av antibiotics and was on a drip for a day as I couldn’t keep down liquids. When I said I thought I could hold down some soup, it was brought to my bedside in a nice china bowl – go private :)

On a more serious note, my friend’s 9 month old daughter went to hospital a few days ago with salmonella, staphylococcus and e-coli. The Dr.s said they’d never seen all three at the same time. She was on adult doses of av antibiotics for three days and is still taking monster doses orally now.

    Hope you’re feeling better soon.

When you can eat again, live yoghurt, Yakult and the like will replenish all the good bacteria in your tummy. Antibiotics kill them all; they don’t differentiate between the good and bad ones.

I’m The Philippines > Abu Dhabi > Dublin. Got a month in The UK before flying Heathrow > KL > Bangkok > Phuket.

I’ll use Adobe Premiere for editing. I work with PS / DW professionally and kinda know my way around video editing, but it’s certainly not my forte. I’m sure I’ll mess up a lot of the editing to begin with. From what I’ve seen, the balance between speeding it up so you look better vs keeping it looking natural is where a few STW’ers fall down. Flowers and plants seem to vibrate in the breeze instead of slowly swaying :)

mikewsmith – it was looking at that page that got me thinking about making my own.
