    @sui pretty sure HMRC won’t stand for that,clubs contract a particular player not a service, there is the question of image rights though (hence hence the raid on Newcastle that’s still going on)….

    @thisisnotaspoon – not true, FA rule C1 :-

    All payments to a player are made by the Club and fully recorded in the accounting records
    of the Club;
    All salaried payments to a player must be subject to PAYE and NI. This includes weekly
    wages, performance bonuses (win, points, goals scored etc, share of prize money), loyalty
    bonuses and signing on fees;

    slightly OT but Chartered IT Professional is in no way equivalent to any other protected chartered engineer title, it’s just not the same level. I really wish there was an equivalent, but I’m not sure there ever can be, there’s just no proscribed, best way to do things and it changes so fast. Also the level of rigour and professionalism (and statutory backup) required just doesn’t exist amongst most software engineers. There’s no support in industry either, testing and proper documentation is practically the first thing that gets cut as soon as a project has any kind of difficulty, that’s not something you can get away with in civil engineering…

    Wood doesn’t tend to jam in a router table, it gets cut or it gets moved out of the way of the bit, with a cut like that it will just tend to fire the piece you are working with at very high speed away from the bit, upwards and possibly towards you.If you are pushing the piece you’ll have nothing there to push against so you could end up with hands very close to the bit or falling toward the table, it’s pretty terrifying when it happens and potentially very dangerous, and it happens so fast you don’t get to react. As usual the answer to any question involving a router is build a jig, in this case I think you want a fence in front of the bit, takes small bits off at a time and either don’t use the rear fence or at least ensure the piece can’t come up at you, by using featherboards. if you still want to do the cut the way you suggested at least use featherboards on the rear fence to stop the wood getting thrown up and out.

    I’ve been getting mine from metropolitan leather, the hide I used on those bags has a really nice oiled finish with loads of ‘pull up’ so the colour changes where you bend it, and it ages really nicely. Biggest problem with leatherworking is the cost of the leather though. Those 2 bags used nearly a whole ‘shoulders’ piece (16 sq ft) which costs £153 quid :( you really don’t want to screw the cutting out up.

    I made a small back pack and a messenger bag, really enjoying leather working at the moment, loads of stitching but very satisfying…

    I reckon they’ll ski pretty much exactly the same as ‘modern’ ski’s, the bottom layer looks like it was a standard, modern plastic and metal, off the shelf base. The remaining layers were wood but they mostly just control the flex in the skis, if you know what you are doing I’m sure wood is just as good at that as any of the other materials you might use, you just choose the right wood and grain direction to get the behaviour you want, they are very pretty, but they aren’t ‘traditional’ ski’s. Might want to get in early if you want a set though, before his terrifying use of the tablesaw takes his fingers off him…

    @AlexSimon I’ve got one of those, it’s shallower than a veritas dovetail saw, which I also have, they both make beautiful fine cuts though :), if you can get away with it the Veritas tenon saw will do the job perfectly and it’s a little deeper…

    I wouldn’t switch saw part way through a cut, the different kerf widths means the cut can easily go off at an angle at the point you change, if you are confident with a japanese saw then I’d use that, no. of teeth seems to make less of a difference on japanese saws as the teeth are flat not set, so you may be fine with the one you have. Otherwise, get a finer japanese saw (if you can find one without a back). At the size dovetails you are looking at the fineness of the saw won’t make much difference as long as you can cut straight with it, you’ll be tidying up with a chisel anyway, so you just need to make sure you don’t go over the lines, and the closer your cut to the line the less tidying up you’ll have to do :)

    If you’re handy with wood, it doesn’t seem that hard, very time consuming though…

    If it’s a an older account, it’s a known issue with Gmail, there’s a feature where you can create custom email addresses based on your signed up one and they all arrive at your inbox (handy for tracking where addresses get passed on) see here :-

    2 handy Gmail email address tricks you should know

    Unfortunately it didn’t used to stop people signing up with dots in their email address (which I foolishly did), which then confuses the feature above. I regularly get emails for a guy in the states who has the same email account name except for the dots in mine.

    I usually just ignore the email or politely email the sender and explain, though I’ve given up with the Honourable order of the Blue Goose as they just refuse to believe me :).

    If it’s the screen and not the backlight that’s broken and it’s reasonably new you can make cool natural light panels with them – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JrqH2oOTK4

    @RopeyreignRider I would think bursaries can be included as income with some mortgage companies (though you may need a history of them or evidence that they will continue if they are regular payments) , a decent broker would know which ones, my wife is paid via a stipend and I’m pretty sure that was included in our last mortgage.

    From what I understand, about tranquiliser guns. I doubt anyone would want to use them except in very controlled circumstances. You need a special licence, the chemical is very bad for people, I think you need a second person on standby with the antidote in case you accidentally catch yourself with the dart. Then the dose is hard to get right so the effect can be unpredictable, anywhere between no effect, taking several minutes to have an effect, to the animal dropping dead on the spot. oh and I don’t think the guns are very accurate either, so no good at long range. I’ve been told there are very few vets with the licence, basically some zoo vets and a few who’ve spent a year doing large animal stuff in africa.

    If you want to take a dangerous dog down, you’d be better off hitting it with the butt :)

    @5plusn8 my argument isn’t based on the all private schools being like Eton at all. It just relies on a disproportionate number of people who went to private schools ending up in positions of power and influence and the fact that once they get there they will be most interested in resolving issues that effect them i.e. not state education. The fact that they were ‘ordinary’ kids when they went into private education doesn’t make the slightest difference. And yes they are full of self serving scums kids, just like the state schools :), that’s why you need to align ‘self serving’ with ‘for the good of society’, everyone is self serving.

    For me @molgrips touched on the most important reason to shut private schools. If the vast majority of people who end up in power had little to no contact with the “hoi polloi” during their formative years, no experience of the state education system, and there is no likelihood of their children having any experience of it either. Then there’s little chance they are going to be motivated to do anything about making it better, and even less chance of having any idea what they could do, even if they were.

    Politicians and people with power and influence are just like everybody else, they only care about stuff that effects them, so if you want them to care about education, healthcare or anything else, you’d better make sure it effects them as much as everyone else. That’s why allowing people to buy themselves out of societies systems is such a bad idea, it’s a recipe for neglect.

    workbench

    A workbench including a wagon vise from an old car jack, almost entirely with handtools and starting from rough sawn timber, was a lot of work but I’m chuffed with the result.

    The weight limit for those bars is pretty low too, I think it’s 20kg, certainly the brackets are fairly flimsy, not sure I’d want to be hanging bikes off them on a regular basis.

    IANAD but, off the top of my head…

    Thyroid problems
    Steroids, prescribed or otherwise
    Crohns disease
    Lack of calcium in diet

    If it’s a long term and serious calcium deficiency they will need to give your dad something to aid the calcium uptake as well, otherwise it can just go straight through without being absorbed, I take Alendronic acid to help with that

    What Wrightyson said except you only have to do it for one board per continuous run of kick plates. The rest you fit overlapping at each corner so they hold each other in. When you need to remove one, you first remove the one you put a board behind then work you way along the run removing them one by one, till you get to the one you want. Make sense?

    I noticed yesterday they’ve also stopped taking tesco vouchers, which although not surprising, is diappointing as that practically the only use I had for them, ah well guess it’s back to wasting them on disappointing trips to zizzi’s\pasta pesto\<insert overpriced large restaurant chain here>

    RustyNissanPrairie that’s a pity, I still get all that, and you still get people who drive like dicks even when you are in a car. What I try to remember is that 99% of the time it’s not actually malicious, they are just selfish and unaware, and the proportion of close passes that are more then scary and actually close to hitting you is tiny, it’s just that people seem to give you as much room as they give a parked car rather then a moving one. As for aggro and stress, that’s absolutely %100 under your control, you just have to learn to take a breath and get on with your journey (and I miserably fail at that on a reasonably regular basis).

    yeah sorry, that sentence needed a ‘could’, I don’t actually pass that close to them, the amount of potholes round here, you wouldn’t want to risk being that close to anyone in case they have swerve round one.
