Yeah that bit is sketchy then down tongue gill would be mega?

Did this route the other day. Rode from Rydal round the lakes, stocked up on ginger bread in grasmere then ascended up tongue gill to grisedale tarn then up onto Fairfield. Great rigg, heron pike, nab scar and down Alcock back to grasmere then coffin trail back to Rydal for a dip in buckstones!

Absolutely loved the Alcock descent, flat out fast before the tarn then some nice really tech to the bottom (steady rideable tech rather than scary mega death tech!) but can’t help thinking it might have been better to do the loop in reverse..??

yeah i got a pair just last week, Renegades, with the 4KO lens. £70.

Mightily impressed. i have worn nothing but Oakley Holbrooks for the last decade or so and the Sungods are just as good – whether they last as long remains to be seen but cant fault em for the price. if you decide to order some let me recommend you and they’ll give me £50 off another pair!!

dont get me wrong Yair was great. certainly feels a lot less trodden and the climb up to 3 bros is great, we did it twice! rode ginger minge (i think) quarry dd and scorpion…

then over to Thornilee. slabs, full definition and tiger king. tiger king was another favourite of the weekend!

Re Glenbenna, yes! climbed all the way out to do ridge run followed by the trig trail. another place that feels a lot less trodden and fantastic views.

The fireroad climb up to nuts and glenduro is an absolute dream too! the tracks may not be as long but they are miles easier to lap than golfies!

over 7000m descent in 3 days.

Theres definitely more to Glenbenna than trailforks suggest, you might have to do some rooting about but that Glenduro is an amazing track and worth it for that alone!!

just home from 4 full-on days in the Tweed! some good intel here thanks, particularly Glenbenna!! Thornilee was great too!

not in a rush to ride Yair again, but would be a nice change if your finding inners and golfie a bit too rough and physical…

off up to the T.V. tomorrow for a few days. looking for some intel on must-do trails? read this thread a year ago and found some gems so hoping to strike gold again… got an uplift one day but planning to ride some different areas this time, yair / cademuir / thornilee – rather than just mashing golfie, unless theres anyu unmissable new stuff up caberston??

definitely. we live in north manchester/lancashire and have plenty of riding form the door, but this time of year we would usually be shooting up to the south lakes once a week to ride grisedale or chapel; or down ladybower or llangollen? anywhere within an hour or so on a Friday afternoon – those little trips probably cost 40 or 50 quid in fuel at the moment!

i offer no advice but is there any decent gravel riding on the peninsular? we go often but never thought of taking my sutra…

Ross has gone away to escape the jubilee debauchery. He retreats to a Welsh Bermuda triangle (a Bwlchgwyn Triongl if you like) devoid of malignant invisible forces such as radio reception, phone signal or wifi – the sort of place where they drink lighter fluid and threaten each other with dead fish – so im sure he will respond to the questions when its safe to emerge again.

amazing how many claim to be Dickens’ local!! must’ve been a right pisscan!

nowhere near where OP wants to drink but ‘Prospect of Whitby’ in Wapping is one that’s worth a visit. some shady dealings gone down in there centuries past! still has a eery vibe.

proper london pubs should be a few hundred years old, claim to have been frequented by Dickens and serve only beer! no wine or fruit based drinks for the ladies – or food!

lots of wood, polished brass and flowers in the windows!

how would they identify those who need it most?

we live in a nice house, we both have full time jobs with modest salaries and dont claim any benefits or anything – but we are struggling to keep our head above water atm. that £400 will be very welcome… and i hope they do just credit the pre-paid meter rather than cash!

yeah completely my cock-up. id unwittingly activated a clause in my contract that doubled my notice period, so when i interviewed for the new one i gave them a date id be available then we agreed a start date.

so i googled P46. its been replaced by another form now but appears to be just the ticket – trouble is im not really comfortable not disclosing the situation to the new employer. i would like to be transparent with them – but i dont really want them to postpone my start.

Everyone loves a bargain! Even the most flush people. I bought a pair of trainers recently, reduced from £120 to £40!! Only had a size too small but £40!! I squeeze into em :D

My wife loves a takeaway too. When she orders one, she literally gets HERSELF one – me and the kids have pasta & sauce!

i have it in my right arm currently.

i play squash so im fairly sure thats the cause.

its always worse first thing in the morning, take a while to loosen up and stop hurting, but i can feel it whenever i bend my arm. when i play squash i use a compression strap (+ ibroprufen), it is very painful at first but then warms up and goes away. next morning, agony again.

got some isometric, eccentric and concentric exercises which really target the painful areas but does not seem to get better. apparently you can get a steroid injection in the area but might do more long term damage? interesting about Acupuncture – might try that!

Another fan here. I only wanted low light lens so bought the full set and returned the chrome lens for refund. Worked out same as buying frame+ lens but you get all the other gubbins, carry case etc.

Also just got the photocromatic lens too.

They’re not without flaws, but no glasses I’ve found are. They steam up when I’m hot and not moving fast, so have keep em on my head & pop em on for the the descents, which I often only remember to do half way down!. I’ve also still occasionally gotten blobs of mud in my eye while wearing them!?

replaced my rear wheel with a DT E1900 recently. seems good so far, will definitely look at getting the front version to match when i need one. engagement not as quick as id like, but spins really nice, decent weight and ride well. £200 notes!

well impressed with the Magura Mt7s until i changed the pads. would try and get hold of some proper Magura ones next time rather than the [not even that] cheap ones i got from Nukeproof. i would swap the brittle levers too if they didnt feel so nice. ive got both of my lever blades held in lace woith little twigs where the pin used to be.. tried replacing twigs with nut and bolt but they didnt last. twigs ftw.

I have had a bit of trouble with mine. but probably all user error?

first ride out the mech and shifter became unpaired… didnt twig it had become unpaired – assumed battery had gone so limped home. guess i will learn from that one…

another ride the battery did go! again obviously didnt charge it sufficiently but it was fully charged according to the charger and id ridden nowhere near the number of hours its suggests you can on a full battery – limped home… pissed me off that app doesnt warn you!?

and another ride it completely forgot its indexing and crunched and clunked its way round the lakes, fannied round with the settings but it killed my vibe enough to make me sack it off and limp home… stripped it, cleaned it, reset and reinstalled it and it was back to normal.

also lost the battery cage within 3 rides.

Apart from that, i do really like it!! hopefully those were just teething problems…

i would happily ride everything at BPW in an open face, and would do if i was pedalling up. but for uplift, why not just wear your full face? (if you have one) you do get that extra sense of security behind a big lid and goggles!

i just think the Saul from early Breaking Bad episodes would be less chipper if Kim was dead…?

cant really see any other outcome tho sadly, Lalo is still on the prowl…

each to their own, but if Dalby is your local there is no way on earth id make a 10hr round trip to ride BPW. Then again, if its uplift you’re after – there’s not a lot of other options, esp for the 11yr old.

i built a 6m x 3m one recently, essentially same as the one you describe, with 2nd hand doors and windows.

best advice i got was to just make sure all the main timbers are at 400mm centers, and all the overall dimensions are at multiples of 400. this makes life so much easier when installing your floor, roof and wall panels, assuming you are using large sheet material, OSB or whatever as it usually comes in 1200×2400. plus you can always work out where the structural beams/posts are in future (unless you leave them exposed? depends if insulating or not…) handy when throwing up shelves etc…

pre-fabbed the wall and floor frames in the garage, (larger lengths in 2 sections) and fixed them all together at the site. built the roof insitu and hey presto – shed appeared in a weekend! took another 12 months to finish it tho! :D

i would slog 40hrs out in 4 days and have Friday off. Fridays were for riding while kids/mrs were out at work/school, then i had all weekend with them without itching to piss off on my bike… would stlll sneak another one in at some point over the weekend too usually.

plus i would ride while i was away in the evenings as well..

42 this year, the last 2 years (or is it 3 now?) ive worked 100% remotely, but for 15 years prior i have worked away from home (Lancashire) mainly in London and surrounding areas.

Working in central London i used to get the train to/from Manchester, but ive also had stints in Surrey and Hampshire when i would drive down. its much nicer having your own transport to get about when away. too easy to hibernate when relying on public transport. in London id always get a shitty single speed bike to raz about on, until it got nicked (ive had 6 or 7 d go missing down there!)

Accommodation has always been in lodgings, spareroom.com type digs. never enjoyed hotels, much preferred to have my own private space where i could leave my stuff (work clobber, TV, sports kit playstation etc) rather than packing/unpacking every week, plus i would have use of a kitchen to cook in rather than eating out too often or gobbling takeaways all the time.

My main pastime in evenings would be to join a local squash club. I would play on the teams, play internal leagues or just friendlies. its a great way to meet people, see new places (away fixtures) and keep out of the boozer, although could always have a beer or two after playing.

I also had a unlimited cinema pass which was worth its weight in gold, and when down in the suburbs i would also throw my mtb in the car and spend the lighter/warmer nights riding around hindhead, redhills or peaslake – did a lot of riding down there over the years tbf but it was usually a lonely affair.

Generally left home on a Sunday night so i could be at my desk first thing Monday, which usually meant i could bail out on Thursday, head north and have Friday off. So i only really had to entertain myself 3 for nights anyway…

I just made the best of the situation, had some good times didnt enjoy it ultimately – leaving on Sunday was grim, ruined the whole day knowing you were headed back down the M6 after tea. kids would be in tears, mrs upset and i missed countless birthdays, anniversaries etc, parents evenings… then the pandemic proved we could be equally productive from home makes it all seem pointless.

ha. well when i was staying in Lightwater i was actually working in Farnborough so rode around Deepcut, Mychett and Tunnel Hill a fair bit too… very different riding to my local riding (Lancashire Moorlands and steep valleys) but enjoyed it… would usually drive down to Hindhead or Redlands once a week too for some gravity.

Useless information for you now but there’s quite a bit of decent riding in the woods around Deepcut.
