looks like a typo in the OP? i assume its meant to say

‘I chosen not to head out on the the fells with an os map’

so choose Whinlatter… or better still change your mind – such a wasted opportunity!

Work Farnborough, stay Knaphill, have done a few years now so have ridden swinley, mytchett, ceasars etc a fair bit but prefer to leg it down to peaslake if I can – I have a van yes… I go home Thursdays so mon/tue/weds for riding and I’m pretty much out all 3 at the moment

never been and don’t know for sure, but I do know that there’s an EWS privateer called Rich Payne who is based on Jersey. he does vlogs & podcasts from all the races and he’s mentioned a few times that the riding is quite good there, considering.

id send him a msg on social media…

yeah just stick with it, dont sack em off as death traps after one ride because thats how you’ll feel later!

hijack, not really worthy of new thread.

had a squishy shock (RS RockShox Monarch Plus RC3)

did a quick air can service clean up job, but then realised i had no 15wt 15 oil they recommend, they only use a teeeeny amount in the air can so i stuck a few drops of 2.5wt i got with a reverb in there… is this gonna be catastrophic?? have not ridden it yet

i find tipping has kind of died a death since we all stopped using cash. not all of them card readers offer you the opportunity to leave gratuity and often ive genuinely had no cash to leave. at first i used to feel really terrible about this but its becoming the norm now…

just water, in fact i only ever drink water – except coffee and alcohol.

my mate uses fresh orange!! that shit just makes me thirstier!

good thing about water is you can splurge a bit down your neck when its redders!

also a big fan of the deathgrips, also a fat handed ****.

they are not so robust tho, i have a pair on two bikes and the ends of all four are flapping off from scrapes with trees, van roof, floor etc…

i tend to grip one end with my teeth and pull it through. always cut in half too like everyone else. my tyres are peppered with anchovie ends sticking out, like notches on a bedpost! i replaced a tyre last weekend because there were so many then the first ride on fresh rubber ended with two new ones! dont bother replacing them at home tho, never had one fail yet touch wood.

only use the weldtite kits myself, quite like carrying the little box as i stick a few extra bits in, power link, emergency tenner… nice and flat in my pocket.

rode it last week from Abergynolwyn. must admit 2 thirds up i was cursing myself how uninteresting the ride back down would be, but then it got pretty steep & rocky, pretty quickly!! I took it all the way to the summit but visibility was bobbins so i didnt hang about and attempted to ride the whole thing, mostly tripodding the top section tho, but eventually it becomes nice and fast, loose and sketchy in places, just survived the arm pump on the armoured path bit and even really enjoyed drifting back down the zippy grassy bit back to the road… also took another grassy shortcut on the way back down to Llanfihangel which chopped off a chunk boring road section id climbed up… enjoyed it, and id be keen to do it again from another angle.

ill get a picture later but its quite a natural finish, when i look at tutorials on youtube they all appear to be sanding an inch of resin off the top like the old primary school hall floor! i like to be able to see and feel the wood, and there still be proper cracks between the pieces…

i am happy to pay someone, just dunno who or an idea of what a reasonable price looks like. its about 40m2.

plan was cadair idris out of Abergynolwyn, and maybe a lap of the climachx if i can be arsed. as you say, ill see what the weather reckons on Friday but plan B is to stay under the cover of trees and explore Beddgelert…

not allowed. was there once when we (on the uplift) came across two lads pedalling up, the driver stopped, gave em a bollocking and sent em back down the road. dont suppose they can stop you out of hours tho but it would be a hideous climb! if i was gonna trespass out of hours when nobody else is about, id probably pedal up one of the blues…

incidentally were going to north wales this weekend too, was plannind a dawn raid on Cadair Idris (maybe not quite dawn – no VCB to worry about) but the weather has just changed from glorious to thunderstorms and showers!! hot and wet is worst and no visibility on the summits is gash.

Gonna ride Cadair Idris, looks far more up my street.

Apparently the pony path is footpath only so it looks like starting at Llanfihangel is favourite.

im sure that will be enough adventure for me on its own, but maybe doss about on the cyb pumptrack for a bit on the way back too!

i forsee that come summer, when all the 2018 ranges have been revealed – there will be no shortage of long travel 29ers to choose from…!

looking forward to see what Transition replaces the smuggler with myself…

i rode the stage 6 too. its like shit off a shovel!

what if i added an up/down of Cadair Idris too? is this better from the north (pony path) or from Llanfihangel-y-pennant??

i go to Milan regularly – it has 3 airports, only one of them is in Milan! the logistics of just staying the night and catching the train to florence wont be that simple… actually i think London city fly into Linate which is the closest to the city anyway!

didnt rate Florence myself, nothing there that isnt in the guide books! not like Rome, Rome has all the guide book shiz but behind that is a really cool and vibrant city. florence has nothing going on and neither does Milan actually unless you like shopping!

if it was me id fly into Milan, rent a car and have tour round the lakes, Varese, Como, Lugano… Bergamo is nice too.

when planning a new ride i go segment exploring, then look at the details for the fastest riders and click on the date to check out their route – if its of any interest I may scam it for myself and id probably give em kudos out of courtesy… :)

race face rip strip lumbar belt is back in stock. got one of them a few weeks ago. really impressed with the comfort and function. never even occured to me it would provide a bit of support to your lower back which it does and also keeps the old reg in check with the big wide strap! dont get loads in buty i like that its all in one place rather than filling and decanting my pockets before/after every ride…
