if your staying in porthmadog, black rock sands is a great beach and theres a nice walk around Pen-y-banc nature reserve. Moel-y-gest is a good easy walk too, great views and an iron age hill fort to look at.

Portmeirion is nice too but not free.

Harlech castle is nice but there not much else there. dont go to Barmouth tho, makes blackpool look like puerto banus!!

Machynlleth (still in Snowdinia!?) is spot on.

slight hijack.. but i was driving over the menai bridge (east bound) yesterday and looking up you are faced with a plethora of big lumpy bastards!! i have ridden snowdon a handful of times, and all the trail centres in the area, but is there any more riding to be had at altitude round snowdonia, say north of the Llanberis pass!?

ive been looking at trailforks and strava heatmaps but neither are coming up with much….

i have heard about the Drum mountain rides but i fancy pushing 4 figures, owt round Carnedd Llewelyn?

my old man has started gaining weight pretty fast.

He is only 62, and a youthful 62 at that. Up until recently he has played squash to a very high standard but bad knees have forced his retirement…

He still trains in the gym 4 nights a week, and is a keen roady lycra bandit type. Also plays golf too.

I don’t think he eats that much either, he likes his buttered toast & jam in a morning, but dinner is always salad or soup and tea is usually a decent, homemade affair. Snack wise its chocolate hobnobs, but only 1 or 2 in the evening with a brew. Drinking only happens at weekend which is exclusively red wine…

He’s at a loss on what to change to start shedding some timber – any ideas?

im also worried this is what lies in store for me in a few years too!? I have a similar, if not slightly worse diet, and i probably exercise less frequently than him, although usually at a higher intensity…

not netflix but started watching Animal Kingdom on Prime.

huge fan of the film! an all time favourite, so was keen to check this out – no idea how i only just heard about it!?

Im only a couple of eps in as yet but seems decent enough, i find so many american remakes impossible to watch but im invested in this for now. great turn from the young lad from Peaky Blinders who plays Josh, but some of the other brothers acting can be bit dodgy – im guessing one of them is british too, going off his weird american accent…

I thought it was great, nowt wrong with a little slow burn – was good to see everyone again, and there were some nice reunions! all set up nicely for a bit of mayhem now…

did not like the part with jon and danny flying about on dragon’s though, was a bit misplaced to me. grinning and winking at each other, thought they were gonna break into song!!

i didnt wanna spend much when i bought mine because i wasnt sure how much i’d wear em.

got some hi-tech ones from Winfields for about £60

that was 2 years ago, ive worn them to death and they are still going strong – cant justify a splurge on some fancier ones yet.

    The Godmother is my favourite!

The Boo theory. I did think that myself, but I’m sure I remember her doing that 4th wall thing to the audience during scenes with Boo?

Thanks for the replies. Rostrevor a clear winner! especially if i can get there in an hour!

if i can promise to be home by lunch time (ish) ill be game on.

im sure ill be able to fashion a route using strava and trailforks… what are the orange DH runs like? what about the Foxhunt track?

suprised there is not more love for Wicklow tho? must be decent enough to attract the EWS…

Back from a phenomenal week in La Plagne. Honestly one of the best ever!!

Large dump of Snow during the weekend we arrived, then 4 days of wall to wall sunshine before another little top up towards the end of the week and another couple of sunny days to finish off. Glacier was open around half the time too.

First time with Club-med after years of catered chalets. Not gonna dwell on the negatives – Arrival at Geneva was chaos, Kids didn’t really enjoy the mini clubs, Mrs wasn’t keen on the food, and the rooms were incredibly small etc but all that was insignificant to me as the skiing was unreal.

I’ve never had a lesson in my 20yrs, but I decided to try them out as they’re included. We had other good skiers in our group who were clubmed regulars and they advised level 4 was a bit too serious so I put my name down for 3A.

First morning there were 14 of us + 2 instructors. Wasn’t sure it was for me during those first couple of runs, found myself stood waiting a lot, but soon we were split into two groups of 7, then 2 of our group wanted to stay with their mates so were were down to 5 + 1 instructor – this was a dream!! From then on it was flat out, good pace, good terrain, we usually all fit on the same chair, and we went on some amazing backcountry adventures, all likeminded and happy to hike for the magical pow!! We had a great dynamic, had a good laugh and saw some amazing sights, all away from the madding crowd. I did take the odd afternoon off to hammer the piste with the mrs, kids and some of the others, we all loved it. I have never packed so much into my 6 days before. Was out before and after the first and last lifts every day!!

Never had such convenient doorstep skiing before either, we would walk outside n fly down to La Roche before the lifts even opened! then we literally scraped to a stop outside the ski locker door at home time!

    I love La Plagne

one extreme to the other this year with a trip to La Plagne but looking forward to doing some mileage in and getting a bit lost.

Loved The Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody, quite enjoyed The Favourite. Wasn’t overly keen on Stan & Ollie. Poppins was great, but none in the same league as Blackkklansman!! Think that’s my lot so far…

I enjoyed Sex Ed too. its a bit like Skins was was before it went shit – except with fewer narcotics.

got bored halfway through 1st ep of Ted Bundy.

pleased to see The Office US has appeared over on Prime. had a run through of some of my faves last night! never gets old! “hmmm, sort of a oaky afterbirth…”

5 hours at best most nights, with a good 8 or 9 hour reset at the weekend…

I never feel that tired come bedtime, but getting up is hard work. I force myself to ‘lights out’ at 11:30 during the week but I know it must be gone midnight by the time I drop off. Alarm is set for 5am. If I just sat watching TV till I fell asleep it would be much later before I nodded off. I know I need more kip, but I feel like going to bed any earlier is a waste of my evenings!
