It was a costly mistake.

Again, judging by the posts ive read road calipers seem to be just as bad if not worse due to road salt and frequency of use.

I don’t ride road so couldn’t comment myself.

The common consensus seems to be this problem is due to corrosion at the base of the seal groove that houses the pistons judging by forum results.

My zee’s both started leaking recently. I’m planning to have a go at cleaning out the corrosion and hopefully they’ll not be too badly damaged and can be used again.

The fundamental design of the calipers hasnt changed I don’t believe so if the calipers aren’t cleaned properly post ride and given the opportunity to dry out relatively quickly this problem will happen again and again.

I wasn’t looking after them properly so im taking responsibility on this one i think.

The majority of the damage is off to the right of where the plate sits. If the plate covered that area op wouldnt be so worried about the resale value as itd be covered by the plate.

Im on my third Ibis frame, ive repaired two in that area. 1 plate replacement and paint chips, and one just for paint chips.

If it was a chain slap plate it would protect the frame from chain slap. It doesn’t do that though as you can see from ops pic. They never have protected from wear in that area, it’s simply not covered by the plate.

Its for chainsuck 100%, hence the name.

Its a chainsuck plate, not a chain slap plate. Its function is to protect the frame in that scenario.

The area where most of your paint damage os isn’t actually covered by the chainstay plate.

Its alot of damage for one ride regardless of where your riding id say though. In ibis’ defence its for chain suck, not slap. You need to weigh up frame protection on your own i guess.

Also, its handy enough to repair, ive got two ibis bikes atm and ive installed the chain suck plate on one of them. Clean it, rough it up, fill the chips, paint and then bond the plate on. Make sure its all degreased and your epoxy is nice and warm. It’ll never come off again.

Ibis warranty have been great with me in the past going above and beyond to help me out when they didn’t have to.

My advice would be to find the best coach in your vicinity regardless of the particular style. Boxing wrestling muay thai kickboxing bjj judo karate..

Competition is king, if the person teaching doesnt have credibility in Competition whether its themselves or their students that speaks volumes.

I was lucky, i had a brilliant bjj blackbelt round the corner from me that regularly brought in world class athletes from all around the world to teach and train.

Find someone who is the real deal and is also dead on. You dont want to be training in anywhere with a bad atmosphere.

oh and on the subject of the root canal not being successful. The dentist told me it was really important to be able to drill out the nerve properly. The drills she had didnt reach the bottom of my canals so i had to go back for round two after she’d got some longer drills. If theres anymore than a couple of mm left of nerve theres a good chance of the infection reappearing.

I feel your pain.

I got an emergency appointment after a few days of wild shooting toothache pains at a BUPA dental practice. First appt was antibiotics and a temp filling which stopped the pain. Second appt I had my first ever root canal. Zero craic. Think that big needle hit the nerve in my jaw right at the beginning. Anyway it’s been great since, i think i paid something like 200 for it? this was 5 or 6 months ago too when most dentists wouldn’t even entertain new patients (I wasn’t registered anywhere after moving)

Think I got lucky with where i ended up. Good luck.. dont be afraid to look around if youre not happy with your treatment.

Ive done alot pf grappling over the years and its rough on the back and neck. Doing this keeps me moving..

Its basically a prolonged stretch of the spine, when youre doing it properly you will feel the vertebrae separating as your spine decompresses.

If you google ‘asian squat’ you should see pictures of people sitting in a deep deep squat. You need to learn how to get into this position and sustain it for a few minutes.

If youre not used to it or aren’t flexible it will tale some time. Use a table leg or something to hold onto as you’re learning, you’ll still get the benefit. Do it a few times if not more each day, starting off for short periods 30 seconds or so..

Before long you should be able to sit like this unsupported and flat footed for 2 – 3 minutes.

If you stay consistent with this exercise it will likely help ALOT in my own and others experience.
