    work great.

would those be the same ones that exploded their fluid on the mega? Having said that Sam's SLXs are very nice for the price, though Craig's deores were shockingly poor.

I still prefer the 'feel' of juicys. If you're a weight weenie look at martas or any formulas. But SLX makes a lot of sense for the money.

yep its really only to showcase SRAM as being a 'market leader', helping to sell x0 x9 and x7 2×10 sets. No real world use beyond racers and idiotic bike tarts.

Things like handlebars, cranks, stems are pointless to 'review' they either work or don't and the reader can look at the specs sheet and see if they suit them. Similarly other simple components such as headsets, bbs, mechs etc either stand up to use well or don't, we dont need a load of hyperbole and redundant conjecture on how it will cope with a muddy calderdale winter or peaks grit. Just try it for an applicable amount of time and say yes, it's good/ no it broke, get something else. To this end the section on the website showing the lastest kit comming in for testing lets us know what to expect, we don't need to be shown it in the mag as MBUK is guilty of. Ooh look at this new thing, I don't know anything about it and everything i'm saying is straight of the spec sheet.. blah blah wow I filled up a column with nothing of any use to the reader.

Therefore, I would like to see tests on things that don't have the top trumps review of weight, geometry, strength, price which the reader can make a choice on themselves. e.g. tyres, clothing, foods, tools, coaching services (although I appreciatethat could stir up bad vibles and politics)

of course we're ripped off, decades old technology branded and priced as the lastest and greatest, one of the reasons I will never (unless I earn a veritable s*** ton) buy a new bike. Your money doesn't go into R&D it goes to a man in an office who designs more acronyms and decides that they'll use a slighlty more expensive alloy this year and up the prices to cover the amazing new wonder metal.

[/quote]deep tech is impossible to convey through the pages of a bike mag..

I'd have to disagree. Even the most complex linkages are still extremely simple engineering as are forks shocks and gearing. Given 'modern' (Which have been around for decades but are somehow the latest thing when it comes to bikes) materials I reckon the ancient greeks or at the very least the victorians could have cooked up some great bikes. There's a lot of hyperbolic nonsense as I'm sure we're all aware to try and make refinements of simple technology look futuristic and revolutionary.
I can't see how the simple explanation of how a component or frame is slightly better than its preceeding design can be beyond our understanding. We understand cars, aeroplanes, rockets and computers to some extent so a humble full suss surely can't be that much of a dark art?

I went skiing to Borovets this winter and had a great time. There aren't that many runs but it's obvious your not going to get an Alpine resort for that kind of money. It's a good place to go to learn but anyone used to years of blasting down alpine reds and blacks and would be dissapointed.

not ridden any others but -1 for Ae. some alright steep bits but overall it's just like a rough fire road with friction compensation slopes for downhills. The Omega man is O.K. and the shredder trail and new DH are good fun but the trail its self offers none of the fun of what I've heard/ seen of kirroughtree dalbeatie

My girlfriend has some 2009 air ones with travel windyness and they have constantly broken. 3 times windwave have replaces the cartridges, the stantions have play in them and they randomly drop to 0 mm travel without any warning then returned to normal. They got taken to the Marzocchi man at the Mega and he smacked coil internals in as he admitted they ould just keep breaking as each cartridge weakens the other when replaced.

sram are cranking out some awesome looking gear at the moment even the x7 stuff looks great. A lot of the DH crew are using X0 and people like Brian Lopes are ditching shimano, surely for a reason? I much prefer my x9 not my old xt stuff.

you can have as many ucas points as you want but no admissions tutor is going to see a random college course in painting and decorating as being better than an A in a proper academic subject. All good uni's are heavily over subscribed. Mine has 11 applicants per place LSE is even more so your friend is unlikely to even be considered for a proper course without academic subjects with decent A levels.

I got some of the dmrs above and find them naff. Plenty grippy but then what grip isn't and the patten rubs your palm badly.

There a few roles outside engineering, medical and IT where a degree can form the basis of the role. However as an officer you would be responsible for some chartwork. I think warfare officer is the one to go for as it's this role that produces the admirals not specific ones.

My ladyfriend has a bontrager race lady saddle and a charge laddle. She says from the stove: (she's a woman) "the bonty's good for xc as it's thinner and less obtrusive to pedalling but the charge is more comfy as it's a bit wider. Both Fanjita friendly"

I've had acuvue true eye and they're great, really thin and easy to put in /remove and are very comfortable. I now have those super cheap ones (day soft) which are nearly as comfortable but are thicker and therefore more noticable and are a begger to et in as they don't want to stay on your finger.
Not bad for 1/3 of the price though.

I love the whole 'can get spares anywhere in the world' argumnet. Who ever travels the world on their bike?

What are you going to use it for and what's your budget?

I'm a SRAM convert but I've only experienced x9. but to be honest I cant see how such an extremely simple bit of engineering as shifters and derailleurs can have 'better shifting' unless they purposely engineer them to be a bit shitter than their x0 xtr sets.

Fitness standards aren't that high, infantry is harder than non-combative roles 1.5 mile run in 10 or 11 mins? (I think) or 13mins for girls. But I don't think you have to be that good to join, just that's what you should be capable of after/during training. pressups is 44 in 2 mins for men I think.
(That's based on my experience with TA, I failed all of them but then again so did maybe 50% of us but you get fitter fast) The food isn't bad either, I was suprised by the edibleness of the new ration packs chicken arriabata mmmmm.

The travel isn't bollocks, there are plenty of adventure training excercises you can go on. I learned to ski in the french alps and got paid for it 😆 some of my friends did 2 week's sailing around the med or the baltic. Others went to Norway, Grand canyon… Even when training we did camping/sleep deprivation in some Norn Irn forests which was good fun in retrospect. I'll never forget the look on this family's collective faces on comming across a platoon of army people with guns pointing in their direction.

Squier, peavey, ibanez and yamaha all make great value guitars. Ibanez probably are the 'easiest' to play for the money. But it's important to try a few out and see how they feel, the neck makes a big difference to how it plays and how suited your hands/fingers are.
I wouldn't reccomend a non valve marshall they sound naff the dfx being the prime example. A secondhand ashown peacemaker would be a cheap/loud/good sounding and very portable option. But valve amps are really really loud. My friend had a peavey triple x and the loudest that ever got was .1/10 in the house and maybe 3/10 onstage.

I too find it hilarious if you just listen to what the commentators are saying. 60% is redundant because you can see it on screen, 20% is stating the obvious and 10% is irrelevant.

They are better with big tyres, they're pretty fragile and the nipples are cheese.

Lots of the trails are xc able, all the 2 dot ones are (on the signs). Really good fun and the uphills are pretty tame for the fun you get. The red xc loop is naff though, too level for any excitment/challenge.

Bleugh! Mojo is one of the ugliest contemporary bikes IMO. A real marmite bike if ever there was one.

The challenger turret pops up over the driver's head but at the speed it rotates it must take a while to get used to. but in combat you put the hatch down, lay down and look through mirrors. The inside's a dangerous place when the turret spins. We had a go with the royal scott dragoons and one of the loaders said he knew someone who lost a nose when it span around. Would not want to spend 24 hours in a box that small.
Check out the panzer Maus. or the designs for this:

We get them in our drive every now and then, comming home from the pub quiz you have to wait for them to fumble around and drive off all the while blasting them with your full beam. It's even funnier when you leave ten minutes later and they're there again.

Anthem x are really nice, I've had a GF hi-fi (think the new version is the rublefish?)and that's super fast, very light with great geometry. Trek fuel ex8 have great suspension se up and are extremely versatile ad cracking value, I used an ex7 for an alps trip and it was nice. Orange st4s are supposedly a bit of a riot considering their travel. Not ridden the spesh/ commencal/ lapierres so wouldn't know.

£40 to downgrade to XP? C***s

For what you want any base spec pc will be fine, anything with core 2 duo written on it with 2gb or more ram (Windows 7 benefits from more ram) will be more than enough.

it might be down to pedalling/shifting timing but the secnod one was in gear and just snapped under pedalling.

I've snapped mine a few times with around 60-100 miles use. Not ver spectacular.

Golspie climb is teh bomb. For a trudge up bomb back down it's really quite entertaing compared to others like glentress or Lagan or Ae (unless you ride cyclocross) WTF?
