Saints. < 50 quid, look good and Shimano reliability.

You could get 2 sets of Hope Hoops for that.

No you can’t – well not with a proper UST rim.

Plus that’s effectively what I’m replacing!

There you have the non-biking world’s view on what “proper expensive” mountain bikes are like….

When I had a frame replaced under warranty changes in the design over a year meant that the front (XTR) mech and rear hub no longer fitted.

They were all supplied by the same shop with the frame and whilst they technically didn’t have to replace them they did send me a new XTR mech (in return for the old one) and a spacer kit for the hub.

Basically they gave bloody good service and sorted me out and I have continued to shop there and would recommend them to anyone. Thank you Mark @ the bike chain

    When I chose my Brodie:

Stanton and Pipe Dream weren’t options
Cove was ruled out due to seatpost diameter and no ISCG
Ti 456 ruled out due to non-availability (always like rocking horse poo unless a container full has just landed)
Ragley was designed around a shorter fork than I wanted
    Kingdom wasn’t available

Love my Brodie Ti Holeshot. Ride it more than any of my other (bouncy) bikes.

Main reasons I chose it (as upgrade from Cove Stiffee):
    Geometry is bang on.
Has an ISCG mount for 1×10 with chain device
Seat tube right diameter for reverb
    looks
    Ti (obviously!)

My reverb top seal got a bit stictiony so I took it to bits and gave it a clean and lube t’other week. It was muck causing it. Pretty easy to do.

Hmmmm… each to their own but rather you than me hitting any big drops without some purchased ability!

I’m just imagining how many runs I’d do somewhere like Antur Stiniog or Morzine without suspension? My old body would be fecked pretty quickly! But maybe you’re younger and harder than me?

No. My wife isn’t at all “outdoorsy”. We have some interests we share and some we don’t.

Riding will be a bit limited this year then with no uplift days, rides in proper mountains, etc etc? :o

Think I’ll stick with having choice of hardtail, full suss and DH bike according to what I fancy myself….

Tricky to pick a favourite ride but I think this is my favorite shot of me this year. Taken by our uplift driver and guide (Ash from Sierra Cycling) out of the mini-bus window using my camera!

Me chasing Scandinavian downhillers on the Benelmadena DH course at Easter.

I took my DH bike. All the trails are great fun. Could do ’em on any bike but bigger = more fun.

My helmet cam of all four trails is here: http://www.mountainbikerides.co.uk/video/15-wales.html

    No it’s black:

36-38T BB mount. The plastic parts on this are all brand new and unused. Only the back plate and jockey wheels have been used. I’ve flushed out and replaced the grease in the bearings of the jockey wheels so this thing is like new. Boxed with instructions and washers for all configurations. £65 posted.

My email is in profile if you can overcome your colour issues

Was the cycling Xmas “Do”. Friday was beer, curry and awards. Saturday was pub fry up followed by trying to keep it down for a quick ride round the woods then it was bikes (tandem for me) covered in fairy lights and heavy drinking for the rest of the day! What could possibly go wrong?

DPD failed to deliver my new Go Pro last week after sending the text to let me know the hour timeslot they were due. It was at work and plenty of people including me were around. They just didn’t show and that was it! Next day got another text with a new slot and it turned up. Box well battered and holed but luckily the contents were packaged well (by Swinnertons) enough to avoid damage.

Not a place I visit much (and happy that way) but the best thing about it is a working, reliable and usable public transport system. Not used to that

Of course you’re absolutely right, if my phone runs out of juice I (and anyone else under the age of 37) just stop and stare at it like a brainwashed chimp awaiting instruction… I am completely in thrawl to it…

Many a truth said in jest!

Eh? Whatchuonaboutmista? Calm down you’ll bust a stent or something…

I seem to have posted this during dusty the old giffer’s lunchtime shift, I thought most of STWs members were in IT and hence not technophobes, my mistake…

I am not a technophobe and actually work in IT. I am however an old giffer (way over 37).

Whilst I do own and use a mobile I do wonder if perhaps the young folk could survive without using the ****’ thing every 2 seconds and perhaps observe and interact with the world around them a tad more? This would have the added bonus of extending battery life.

A time and a place and all that… ramble… it were all fields…. back in the day … ramble… bloody kids etc etc

My degree has never really helped me. In fact it has hindered me years back when I just wanted a manual labour type job….

WTF! Are you going to carry a spare handset on a different network too?

I (and the rest of the human race) survived without the need for a mobile phone until relatively recently in history.

Why the **** is it so essential to survive now?

Wot no Brodies? Let’s fix that:

That was my mate Rob doing the big drop. I didn’t have a go myself. :o Here is one of yours truly doing an easy step down up the top. Now while this could be rolled on any bike you will see that by adding skill compensation, mucho fun air time can be had even by a numpty like me! In the helmet cam videos it probably doesn’t even look like I leave the floor doing this?

    MadPierre

And I’d probably avoid this if you’re taking your fatbike / rigid singlespeed fixie / other STW fashionable niche non big hitting bike

It’s a lot rougher than it looks in all the videos.

    It is very good.

Full face is compulsory for blacks (says on the sign in form).

    It is very good.

    Any bike will do.

    It is very good.

A proper DH bike is more fun.

    It is very good.

If you want to pedal up go to an XC trail centre not a DH one.

My helmet cams here from 1st time there the other week (180mm travel for those that are interested): http://mountainbikerides.co.uk/video/15-wales.html I will be back.
