    Winter = lycra longs.

    Summer = Baggy shorts.

    It’s all down to the probability of a pub stop!!

    I use 823 on the FR/DH bike but have not had any bother with 819s for everything else. When I used to use the same wheels for DH days, Alps, Peaks, everthing I used 819s. Only got the 823s when I gained the luxury of a big hitter that I wouldn’t be pedalling far.

    Having said that an 823 ain’t that heavy and gives a better profile to fatter tyres……

    That probably hasn’t helped? !

    Provisional license is good enough. You do not need a full one.

    Go here: https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/web/site/BC/bcf/bcApplicationFormTmp.asp?promo=none

    The £13.50 Bronze one is all you need. I have mine in my wallet here and as I said it worked last year.

    I did both the Mega and Kielder last year. All you need is the Bronze provisional license which IIRC is about 12 quid?

    Doing Kielder again this year and as they’ve brought it forward a month my license is still valid so that’s not bad value I’ve had from it!

    You don’t have to do it all!?

    Maybe round to Stanage then down the Plantation descent / Bamford clough ‘n’ back up the road?

    This is about the best legit route I came up with from the Fox House. Quite a bit of tarmac to link things up but still a good ride: http://www.mountainbikerides.co.uk/routes/stanage.htm

    If you are heading North from london – what other station would you use? St. Pancras, Euston….

    I’ve ridden Portes du Soleil, Alpe d’Huez, Les Arcs and Whistler.

    None are “better” than the others. They are different.

    As other have said the bike park is great for pushing yourself and is far more compact than anything in the Alps. Much of the XC around Whistler would be called “Freeride” in the UK!

    I can thoroughly recommend bearback for sorting you out with a cracking holiday. Indeed we are using their services again this year.

    Check out my web site for videos and photos of Whistler and the Alps for comparison….

    Hey Jonny

    I use globat.com for my hosting. Mostly because of their bandwidth / web space allowances vs $$.

    …. so I can stick all them big helmet cam clips up.

    If the spare is in the car when it goes for MOT it must be legal.

    If the car doesn’t have a spare it won’t fail an MOT.

    Therefore – just remove the spare from the car when you take it in to be tested!
