Oh so "There’s also plenty of informal free-riding in the forest, but it isn’t waymarked" that I've read here and there on the net isn't really true then?

How do you get to the shortcut to session the final descent?

Having just re-visited this thread I'm certainly looking forward to my post night ride pint tonight!

Don't worry though – I have to drive home after so there's no danger of it turning into a massive binge and me being an alcoholic before the weekend is out! ;)

Oh and mods: can you remove any references to alcohol from this entire forum in case any young folk read it and are corrupted into the evil that is a post ride pint?

this is a bit like having a more literate alterego g

Oi! Less of the literate accusations!

As for the beards thing in ST. I must admit they have been starting to worry me…..!

I was pretty much no opinion on most too.

So what happens if "no opinion" wins all the categories? ;)

Melton Mowbray cuz I currently have to drive to Rutland Water, Notts or Leicester!

… and if you could get a site with a patch of ground to build a test track with some good freeride stuff on it that would be an added bonus!

    Selfishly

Singletrack seems to often mention in its articles probably the most used drug in this country: caffeine (in the form of coffee)….

Most people are addicted to that without even realising.

So what are you suggesting? Random UCI drug (reference) checking for bike mags? ;)

My nephews are too busy lusting after the expensive bike sin the ads and saying "Wow!" to the pictures of Sam Pilgrim doing some insane stunt to read the words in MBUK!

I think I'll have to take them to the pub after our next ride?

Strip them down yourself and just send the lowers for bushing fitting?

Ask for a quote for that?

Biking is linked to a booze culture for me and that's one of the things I like about it! I can booze with less belly because I cycle…

The post ride "de-brief" is part of the evening / afternoon. Weekends / weeks away wouldn't be half the fun without the pubs. And as for the annual sherry run…. :o

The social side of cycling (and therfore drinking) is important to me and others so why not mention it in the odd article? Pubs are an important part of British society that are sadly in decline these days.

Better the youth of today thinks a pint in the pub after some exercise is a good thing rather than guzzling alcopops to get drunk in the park?

does the strap actually work or do people just tiewrap it on?

Remove the elastic and use a velcro cable tie for easy fitting and removal. (See a sparky mate for a free velcro cable tie)

I had 'em on a Cannondale too and I need a couple for my nephews Kona….

I could bodge with insulation tape or just cable tie them but I reckon they must be available and surely only pence?

No not them. I know they are ferrules.

What I mean is a plastic sleeve that goes round a (hydraulic) brake hose to make it a bit fatter so that it fits in the stop (usually the stops next to the gear cable ones on the top tube) on a frame.

They usually have a split down one side so you can get them round the hose and a small lip at one end to stop them sliding all the way through the stop.

I got myself a Specialized Sirrus for commuting a little bit further.

One of my helmet cam vids on you tube got featured on their front page a while back and got sh*te loads of views (and loads of (mostly) ridiculous comments).

Can't access you tube from work but if you search for "mountain bike rides" you'll probably find it.

… or you can watch any of them in much better quality on my own site: http://www.mountainbikerides.co.uk/video/index.htm

Bah! When I saw "Bottle or tap" I thought we'd be discussing the merits of bottled ale vs draught!

Water with a hint of alcohol, hops and malted barley… then we're talking! ;)

I'm in Melton. Fairly horse battered too but we do have hills and can piece together some decent stuff if it's not rained!

At least you live near the M1 which is handy to get elsewhere….

Cheap or expensive? whatever the make? make sure you pack the bearings with grease and apply liberally round them too and any headset will last a lot longer…..

We usually use http://www.snowcard.co.uk and have had claims dealt with no problem in the past.

None of them will cover the value of a decent bike though – best get that on the house insurance.

My 11 year old nephew asked to borrow my "best of" Ramones CDs last weekend. I was happy to oblige.

Think the request came about because Surfin' bird is used on some advert? Whatever? If it gets him into some decent old tunes! :)

I'm veggie and its a choice. And that choice was **** all to do with saving the environment.

Your "friend" sounds like a pain in the arse veggie that gets us a bad name?

Fatboyjon – those teeth cam about through evolution not some bloke with a beard… but that's a different argument….

and the most common cutting remarks on our rides are:

    "You made that look easy."

"Do you want a knife and fork?"

I remember our first trip to the Alps all them years ago…… XC bikes, XC gear – XC riders in fact! …..the memories come flooding back with the sweet smell of boiled Hope brakes….

Cost me a bloody fortune since! Proper big bikes, full armour, full face, flat pedals…. At least a week somewhere with chair lifts every year… etc etc

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Got (different) Louise on all three of my bikes.

All very good and when I have had problems service from Magura UK (1 bloke called Dave in an industrial unit in Ashby de la Zouch!) has been excellent!

We ride Sherwood and the Peak week in week out so was looking for something new and a bit further up the journey……

Done Newcastleton before (and it’s kinda past Kielder). How much riding is there at Stainburn?

I’ve used LHM in mineral systems (Shimano and Magura) for years and it works fine.
