If you want to remove the oil you need a long enough syringe to get it out again!

Or you could just tip it upside down!!

Mine are better since I serviced them and added some oil to the air chamber but still ain't as good as the Pikes they replaced so they are for sale. Email in profile if you're interested.

60MB/min h264 video != 'understand compression'. That is a higher (more than double!) bitrate than is used on some 1080p BlueRay discs

It was encoded at 8Mbs which is a default template in Sony Vegas HD for "Internet 1280×720". Blu Ray is usually 16Mbps which is double that.

I apologise for posting up a link to something some people might have found interesting.
I also apologise for not making sure I was a complete expert in camera work, editing, video compression techniques before doing so.
I apologise for not owning a web site with the same server power and bandwidth as Google.
I also apologise for not doing exactly what the STW experts told me immediately.

    It won't happen again.

As usual the combination of responses varies from outright rude to sensible critiscism. Don't you just love/hate the people on this forum.

    In answer to some:

I wasn't trying to make some amazing edit. It's just a record of our day. I had the cameras with me and didn't want to interrupt the day with loads of fannying about. It was a quick one shot edit and the only CDs I had in my laptop bag got used!

I just thought one or two people might like to see it?

The helmet mount is a bit more wobbly than normal – not sure why? Maybe something was loose on the day?

My server is always slow but seems a bit slower than normal. If anyone wants to pay for a dedicated server and a shed load of bandwidth please send used notes….

I understand compression (it's already h264 but at a high bit rate and at 720p res). I went for quality over file size cuz I get p*ssed off with watching sh*te Youtube blockiness.

I warned you it was massive! Your lack of patience is your problem not mine. Either wait or don't bother.

Any chance you could re-compress it with Handbrake? H264 with the high profile preset with a target size of 200mb will not drop much (any?) visible detail from the vid…

    No.

I can confirm no difference between Canadian an US Pinkbike ones. It's just price due to tax things over there… HD is defo the one you want.

When I was watching it live on Eurosport the other day the camera on the motorbike went down to show the speedo a couple of times just to show how mentally fast they were going down a mountain.

A little oil on the stanchions is not a problem as far as I can tell, at least everything is nicely lubed.

It's not what I would call a little? Lube ain't required on the outside of the dust seal – just inside. Any lube outside just mixes with dust & muck to form a nice grinding paste. Enduro fork seals do a kit with seperate oil seal: http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id264.html Not too expensive so might try that?

I serviced mine myself – pretty straight forward to do a full oil change etc. Maybe I'll try tweaking some more while I save up….?

Ordered mine from Pinkbike. Saved about a hundred quid!

The nice folk there know the score and marked the package as value $30 so didn't get stung :) Top fellas!

I've the same issue. Was gonna try some more oil in the air chamber. Up to 23ml is apparently recommended?

With that and the lack of an oil seal (compared to other forks) allowing oil to slowly leak out onto the stanchions (a fetaure – not a fault!) I'm thinking of flogging mine and going back to Rockshox….

do they still work if the tyre has sealant in, or does this affect the rubber cement from bonding properley?

Yes. Never had a problem with it anyway.

I used the Weldtite kit to fix a ~2mm hole in the tread area…

It's basically a tube of superglue and a pretty standard patch so you probably have all the kit you need to do the same repair already at home, A canibalised old tube or tyre and some Superglue would work just as well, just clean the area and apply a good dollop plus your patch and then re-inflate… Jobs a goodun…

No its not its a squidgy worm thing that you insert with a tool from the outside and standard rubber cement that reacts with the stuff on the worm to stick.

Repairs are permanent enough for me – I've had 'em in until the tyre wears out in some cases.

Hack is a riding term, as in a cross country ride (on horseback).

Yeah I know that. So WTF is it to do with bikes?

What all you "lets have a resort in Jockland" folk forget is that most of us can be in the Alps quicker and cheaper than we can be in Scotland (and that's coming from someone in the Midlands not darn sarf!).

If we are going to have a resort in the UK it needs to be more accessible to more people. Somewhere near Birmingham would be ideal except for the lack of hills!!! So we'd probably have to go for Wales?

    Any management bollox. Obviously.

Particularly at the minute: "It's in your gift" to sort out whatever!

People saying "brought" instead of "bought."

In relation to bike journalism I particularly hate the use of the word "hack". I've never been for a "hack" in my life!

Can't believe anyone runs tubeless and doesn't carry a tubeless repair kit?

I prefer the Weldtite one over the Panaracer one but both are quick and easy to use compared to fixing a tube.

    For me (amd my mates):

We always tend to be a big group so we need accomodation for usually between 10 to 20 riders. This is often tricky to find.

We don't camp and prefer B&B or self catering.

A pub that does decent ale and food near to the accomodation is essential! We are very happy to invest in that part of any local economy we visit! ;) Other eating options are a bonus e.g. cafe for breakfast, curry house etc

I **** love the Alps! And I love Whistler Bike Park, UK uplift days and all forms of not having to pedal up. However I also love Scotland, Wales, Spain, man made and natural trails… even a pootle down a canal towpath to the pub!!

I'm lucky I can and do ride a bit of everything. I've visited all the above and more. Those of you that haven't tried any of them should. If you like or dislike any particular type of riding more than any other then do what the hell YOU enjoy. Don't go all narrow minded and slag off others just cuz they are different to you.

It's often worth checking out those ones that turn into a footapth half way. We did on one near us and it turned out some sensible person(s) had created a brand new permissive bridleway off from the change point in a new direction :D No sign until you got there though.

Another one was two bridleways joined by a short bit of path – this has recently been upgraded and is now all official public bridleway.

Keep on checking your local trails.

Dont even get me started on the mobility/DLA scheme! A family member is on this his first car was a Focus now its a Volvo – a new car every 2 years, free services, all you have to pay for is fuel and the person on it doesn't even drive it! I have to bite my lip every time i see him and he starts boasting about it – grrr!

You obviously know **** all about this scheme so don't jump to conclusions! I drive a motability car (which is hired in my wifes name as she cannot drive). She has had cerebral palsy since birth and is entitled to the full mobility benefit because of this. In order for us to get the car she basically pays for it by giving up the money she would get as that benefit. It works exactly like a contract hire car – it's just paid for directly instead of getting benefits.

If people didn't have the car they would get money instead. What level of mobility entitles you to what benefits is an entirely different kettle of worms….

And BTW its every 3 years.
