The riding in Canada is ace (as are those pics) and I shall be visiting again with bike very soon! :-)

However I’m glad the British biking “season” runs from Jan 1st to December 31st!

Yeah it is for a 44T and no it doesn’t sit too proud – at least not in my opinion. the fact that its back behind everything helps teh look. I believe they are gonna make some smaller ones but can’t find any yet.

I run an MRP XCG clamped behind the BB on that very setup.

That works. Stops bashes without being a full bashguard and you still get to see the pimpy chainset!

High roller on the front. crossmark on the back. Not just for trail centres…

I’d wear it. Don’t the pads come out? Bung them in the washing machine if they do.

Loctite on anything you don’t want wandering out on it’s own: disc bolts & pivot bolts being the main ones. You can usually spot which one’s the manufacturers think should use it as they come with loctite already on the bolts so you’ll see it when you take it apart. Copper grease on everything else.

Some people are **** idiots. Some of them ride bikes. It’s a bigger issue than just bad cycling!

Not a lot you can do about it really?

Muddy Mary does come in UST (though I can’t find any anywhere at the minute). Looks like a good candidate. Cheers

Don’t let the fact that the runs are short fool you. It was challenging physically and technically.

Personally I thought it was a good mix and a good test of all round (AM) bike handling. The seeding/stage 5 course added to the mix nicely. It was only really tricky cuz of the weather and as we are not American we should be able to ride in the wet! ;)

I’ve calculated from the results that I only need to go 31% faster to win!!!!

I would get a guide to take me up to do La Varda. Proper epic on technical singletrack. Here’s a photo: http://mountainbikerides.co.uk/photos/foreign-holidays/megavalanche-and-les-arcs-2008/les-arcs-20081-1409.html Try Rob from http://www.thecoolbus.co.uk/ He’s a good guide.

…..Or just using the funicular to Hammer the Black 8 http://mountainbikerides.co.uk/video/18-les-arcs/85-black-8.htmlover and over!

Gives those of you that weren’t there an idea! Spent quite a lot of the day riding and chatting with Guy. Nice bloke.

I enjoyed it. Sign on / info on what was going on / should be going on was a bit too laid back for me. Lots of folk asking each other about finer details on starts etc.

Course was good but I minced big time. Nice atmosphere chatting to all the other vets as we pedalled between stages and waited.

Think the riders would be better set off with the fastest rather than slowest first? I caught the guy in front of me virtually every run just as the guy behind me caught me causing all three of us problems with a tangle of three trying to get past each other on singletrack.

I hit the road for the long drive home straight after I finished so have no idea of any results including how bad I did! Any idea when they will be online? Who won?

Think I’ll stick with the summer tyres and just hang on and hope? Haven’t got owt else to put on anyway.

It could be a shock riding anything damp after all this time! Maybe it’ll change before then?

Cheers guys. Sounds like House insurance is still best then. Need to dig out my policy and check how much it currently is then get a quote for upping values / changing one of the bikes….

If your home contents insurer will cover them, then it’s normally cheaper than a specialist bike insurer.

That’s what I’m trying to clarify really….Is this still true?

Which rear brake adaptor did you use in the end? Did I win a Jammie Dodger?

Yeah you did. I said so in that thread. It’s got the 160 on at the mo but Magura adapter ordered. Might put my Venti discs on too? Heavier but they look pimp and won’t cook on big hills.

ooh, that’s nice. Like the white more than I thought it would. Did that come as a 140, or did you get the shock swapped out?

Bikechain converted a 160 they had in stock for me – hence the lack of wait.

PS Check out this Spanish thread.

    Keh? ;)

Cleaned the weekend’s muck off last night and shortened the seatpost hose – the hose shortening was as easy as it looks and took 5 minutes.

Just awaiting adapter to put a 180 disc on the back (should be on it’s way) and Mr Hope to send Mr Bikechain some hubs…

It will then just need riding a lot! :)

On the bob front – it didn’t look like it was when I looked down while going up fire roads unlike my Cove. Maybe my pedalling is smooth but I doubt that very much! Certainly didn’t feel it.

    does it go fast ?

Scales are some cheapy suitcase weighing ones from Tesco but I reckon they are about right?

Main thing to me is its lighter than the Hustler it replaced. The actual numbers don’t matter. It’s just relative.

Cheers for the vid but already read the instructions on shortening the hose and it looks easy. I only didn’t do it before riding due to last minute night before going away build completion!

Yep. Took the plunge without a test ride! However tube lengths and angles were studied in relation to what I know and many reviews read.

    so.. how’s it ride?

Initial impressions were good. All the marketing flannel about the DW link is true! It doesn’t bob and climbs very well (for reference it has replaced a Cove Hustler). Lighter weight was noticable (my scales say 30 lbs near enough bang on). Descending it was great once I got used to the lower headtube and therefore overall height of front end – forks / bars / stem were transferred from Hustler.

Switching to 2×10 drive chain was easier to get used to than I expected.

    I owe you a jammy dodger ;)

160 on for now and I’ll order the right adapter… (Magura QM6 or equivalent).

I’ve also remembered why I thought the 203 front = 180 rear. That was IS mount adapters for my older Maguras that did that….
