Power locks ain’t locks you can re-use them.

Also the goo will help get it sealed in the first place.

PS. follow all the hints like fitting with a normal tube to start with.

That’s totally irrelevant with proper UST. They go on and seal with just a track pump with no sealant and no pissing about.

As for the original question: no they work fine without sealant. Only add it to protect against thorn style puntures.

Get a proper UST repair kit though (especially if not using sealant): one of the string ones like the Weldtite one. If you do get a puncture it’s then a doddle to fix.

Ideology on my part. Read up on how the “landed gentry” got hold of the land in the first place e.g. Enclosure Acts etc….

What on earth is going on with the cranks though? They look like M800 Saints that you’ve covered in a load of red stickers.

They are indeed that. M800 with crankskins on. I always rub my cranks and find crankskins work great. The donor bike was red so a quite a few red bits knocking about I’m not prepared to spend money on just for minor colour co-ordination reasons.

I’d say you’d get that sorted on warranty.

Never seen a recommended service interval but this video show’s it’s not rocket science. You could easily do a quick strip, clean and re-lube (based on this) without actually replacing every seal too…

Forgot to mention label/valve alignment is deliberate. Wouldn’t want to deprive you…

Frame is a large and is very similar in geometry to the 19.5 Stiffee it replaced (which I wanted it to be) except for seat tube length which is shorter. I think it’s the top tube slope/ standover which makes it look too small in picture?

Ah! It’s a shed not a garage and the stickers are on the inside of the door. Any scum would be well into the rob by the time they saw them!

You can definitely do it on current XT Mad Pierre. Otherwise Shimano wouldn’t offer the cage plates as spare parts.

Used to be the case. Might have changed on newer ones?

Last time my mate’s XT spring popped out inside the mech (mid-ride) it wasn’t possible to whip the cage off and fix it (as you can with saint/XTR) because the cage was not bolted on…. not sure how old it was tho?

Yeah you can replace the cage on an XTR (or Saint) mech. You can’t on the cheaper ones (XT down).

Pretty easy to do and you can choose cage length.

A pint of beer = 568ml. If we went metric it would be half a litre. A loss of 68ml of ale!

Surely the problem wouldn’t exist if the seals were allowed to weep oil, thus pushing contaminants out of the way?

I thought Fox seals did that anyway?! ;) Can’t beat having plenty of oil on the stanchions for the dust to stick to….

Rockshox Totems come with little nub screws at the bottom to allow a “5 minute oil change”. Dunno why others don’t?

Gotta be worth a shot. Don’t cost much!

I’ve a tubeless tyre that I have a split right on the bead on! Wondered if I could bodge it with a mushroom style plug as a normal patch won’t work there….

Yes the Panaracer one is similar in how it works to the string (Weldtite) ones work.

I’ve used both successfully but not tried a car type one on bigger holes so would be interested to know if they work too?

Pedantic part: As others have pointed out they are lasers (it’s an acronym – look it up).

    And no they aren’t dangerous.

I’m a software developer. No crashes or glitches here! ;-)

Completed without “incident or problem” depends on your definition? Every journey will have some (usually very minor) issue caused by a human. It’s all these little things that add up to the likes of traffic jams etc

The issues are not all incompetence. At least a computer driver won’t be aggressive, impatient, be distracted by the kids (that last one was the excuse the woman used when she hit the back of my car the other week!)

Unfortunately SRAM 10 speed chains come with a powerLOCK….

Apparently it is possible to undo/rejoin them but i have never succeeded.

Very possible and easy with the remover tool discussed above

    MadPierre

The “Remover” ones are well handy for the SRAM 10 speed links. You don’t need the “connector” ones. Just position the link at the top and press down on the pedal to stretch the chain and pull the link together.
