Ride starts at 7 then it starts at 7. If James is only there for the social aspect he can see Dave in the pub at the end!

Be interesting to see the price of the mushroom plugs vs the motor ones off eBay which I have successfully used on bike tyres several times.

Will there be the usual “bike premium” ?

I’ve got a pair of these and they seem pretty good after a handful of rides.
This is the second review I’ve seen not liking the velcro lace tidy – personally I like this on clipless or flat shoes. It works so much better than an elastic lace tidy like on my old Addidas terrax – the elastic has stretched over time and TBH the laces sometimes popped out of the elastic even when they were new! A proper strap is far better and you don’t have to double knot the bow.

if @whyter hasn’t got one I might have one hidden in the shed somewhere too….

Just had a similar decision to make myself but for a narrower rim due to clearance issues.

I decided on neither and went for a set of Hope – heavier but I know spares and repairs will be easy. Didn’t want alloy nipples or straight pull < 32 spokes either for my “subtle” riding style ;)

    Neither without the extra sensors!

I’m surprised the mileage wasn’t different by a bigger margin too! Phones use assisted GPS (usually less accurate overall) and Garmin doesn’t.

A shed load of settings for both can also affect all things!

Even though most people know them as “fog lights” can they please be informed they do not need them on at the slightest whif of a bit of mist!

And once a vehicle is behind them and has not crashed into their rear the approaching vehicle has seen them and they can turn the bloody things off – even in thick fog!!

They’ve changed it then. I’ve flown with them about 5 times and never pre-booked a bike before. must be this mountain biking thing getting popular!

Flown lots of times with Air Transaat. No pre-booking of bike available. You just rock up and pay at check in. More than 10 of you with bikes in a group you are supposed to let them know in advance but when I’ve done this they’ve just said “yeah, be fine…”.

Was £30 or $30 depending on country you are in each way last time I did it (2 years ago). Never had any bother with it over the years….. always best to get to airport early to get it done though.

A local farmer (admittedly not in a very popular or good riding area) I know says he prefers mountain bikers over walkers crossing his farmland any day of the week. We are “quieter, pass through faster, shut the gates and don’t have dogs with us” (pay attention to that last one “trail dog” owners). So therefore cause far less issues with livestock etc….

I’ve got the same issue. Shimano SPDs stuck in RaceFace Cranks (despite copper grease on threads) – both sides! :( Apparently a very common issue? I’ve had an allen key in the vice with the pedal on it and turned the crank for leverage. Still wouldn’t budge.

I’m just leaving as is and greasing the pedals regular. When they are eventually sh*gged I will be in a get ’em out or bust situation so might try more extreme force!

I’ve got 3 transfers – 2 internal and 1 external. Never had stickiness except for when the external “really” needed a service. Seatpost clamp sensitivity no worse than previous reverbs.

If it’s been used regular for 18 months in UK muck it probably needs servicing?

Too many to choose from! I’m gonna randomly pick this one for memories of an awesome time riding miles from anywhere in proper mountains (Chilcotins, Canada, 2017)

@BearBack you seen my Brodie Climbmax? Another option? I’ve not tried it 29 yet and not sure on clearance for massive 29 tyres but I’m enjoying it with 27.5 x 2.8 with plenty of clearance. I’m sure you could pop down to YVR to check one out in the flesh too?

It is expensive. Trails are fantastic and varied. Not been to Finale so sorry can’t compare to that. We went with Freeride Madeira. guiding and uplifts were spot on.

Here’s my holiday video to show a bit of what it’s like: https://youtu.be/kN2Cld5B8Ms

When I was in Jasper for 2 nights a year ago I rented from a shop in the town (Vicious cycles) and did a couple of hours on the local trails just using the trail map the shop gave me and a recommended route from them. found my way easy enough

Longshaw Estate near Fox House has had a little MTB loop for ages. Nothing exciting and part of it is an existing bridleway but we often use as part of link ups of other more interesting stuff in the area. Car park and cafe handy too.

For me it was between the Slash, Enduro and Evil. The Slash won. I hear you on price and boost etc but I’m loving it so far.

If you are doing Saalbach then you might as well do Leogang cuz it’s only round the corner/over the hill*

    *biggish corner/hill!

Good round there as I’m sure colp will confirm. Gotta do the Hacklberg Here’s me on it last year

Like jonba I’ve got a few on different bikes including some original charge scoops – so they last well (including crashes!). Comfy for my arse and I like the fact they are not leather and therefore handle the wet well.

On the subject of traffic light jumping – anyone else old enough to remember the “don’t be an amber gambler” adverts from before the sequences were changed?

Here’s a suggestion: reset the sequences back to how they were then i.e. both directions at a cross roads go amber/red amber at same time! All the jumpers would crash into each other.

Once they’ve been thinned out we can set the lights back to the new safer sequences….

I think the average person can drive far safer after a couple of pints than they can while texting, drinking a coffee, adjusting their mp3 and talking all at the same time….

    Push pistons back.
    Remove pads.
    Insert yellow block.
Push fluid up from syringe on caliper into cup at top.

    Job done. 5 mins.

The whole point of the Shimano “Servo Wave” is the pads are well away from disc and won’t contact it until the lever has moved a good bit.
