So you got one to sell cheap then?

I need a new saddle for the mountain bike, no idea where to start so thought I’d try a Spoon.

If people reckon the Ti rails don’t make it no more comfortable (my old flite ti isn’t all that flexy), then I’ll save the cash in case I don’t fit the saddle anyway!

Scoop looks like it’ll be easier to keep the underside clean, but I’m going to be cheap!

    Thanks all…

I am leaning towards just rigging my bikes to the mains when not in use…

All locks can be comprised, and if they are too good the stand/frame can be cut through, or the bike stripped. Just make it less nickable than the one next door…

Only answer is never stop riding!

Can you not run the turntable into the back of Sonos Connect Amp, and run that to your speakers? I currently run my TV through a connect amp, and sound then comes out of my floor speakers (much better for the rugby etc).

Not sure if a Connect amp can run surround sound… From memory it just has L and R and sub output (I would assume you can still hook it up to your main speakers, but not get full surround experience).

Ceiling not high enough to use the space as a more than storage, and up and over door blocks almost half the roof space.

But rafters are convieniently spaces to hold road/29er wheels. The accessible rafters will support roof bars, cycle carrier, spare wood, and other long things, and I will probably board out over the door to store boxes and other stuff.

Leaning towards carpeting the floor, but may still need to level with epoxy where I am planning on putting the bench, so might still do the back half…

Now looking out an old armchair, and considering a shed to keep the dirty gardening stuff in!

Lesgrandepotato – looked hard for a garage that will fit the van when we moved. To get a bigger/taller garage was well out of budget  van is already a bit lowered, and I don’t want to slam it!

Van has lived outside for years, covered when not in use, not much rot and it’ll be cheaper to fix the body work than buy a bigger garage.

Weeksy – that’s the kind of bench I was after. Any more details? Kit build or your own design?

PS looks like fun in your garage – three motorbikes, or are there more hiding? Kind of workshop I’m aiming for.

Only access is via the main door, no other way to access or add a door.

I quite like the extra patio door idea, but limited budget, and I guess up & over door would be in the way (unless I divide the garage in 2 and then I’ll lose some work space….).

MTB-idle – those locks look great, that’ll be the first step. And maybe reinforce the door too…

Floor anchor – on to do list.

Locking tools away – if not out, it’ll be obvious where they are (esp if I buy the Halfords style tool storage). But away is neater.

Def want to squeeze in armchair, not sure I can permission for the woodburner to go with it.

    Can’t believe I forgot radio…

So how to seal the floor? Do I need to use epoxy? It seems to be 2 pack, more of a PITA to use than just something I can paint on when I have an hour to spare.

Annoyed though because I wanted to save that free trial for some point when I might actually need speedy delivery and could feasibly have time to watch loads of telly, like Christmas.

I’ve used the free trial option several times over a couple of years to get speedy delivery, and cancelled before having to pay… So has the wife.

I wouldn’t guarantee it, but I reckon you’ll get another chance come Christmas time!

It is prevarication – I am lying to myself that I am allowed a new bike…

Especially as I could do with a new phone now as well.

    Slight diversion, sorry.

Is yours the Tripster ACE? Have you ever taken it off road, beyond groomed gravel tracks? Can it hack it?

The current alu tripster seems to take up to 40c tyres, and I was looking at one as a budget way of pretending I had a ti Tripster ATR like everyone else on here…

But I’d have to buy a whole one with flat bars, and swap bits to put drops on it.

Now I just need to close the case without shattering the screen.

Or make a new ‘case’ just by wrapping the whole sorry lot in gaffa

Mr Tall you are a genius!

    Man I love this forum!

Not only can it help me prevaricate for months over which CX/gravel bike I’ll never buy, but it’s made my phone live again. Which in full circle allows me to browse STW when I should be doing other things….

Even the wife is impressed “you should invite them all on a bike ride” – she’s not into bikes…

    Thanks mr tall!

Now I just need to press the home button to get back to access the setting page

Good news – it seems pulling it apart and drying it has given me a second chance, I can live with a ‘streaky’ screen.

Bad news – the home button doesn’t work :(

    So I can’t do anything!

Should I pull that apart? Or can I get a new one?

Will get alcohol tomorrow and wash down the logic board.

As it’ll be 36 hours out of the water at that point, is it worth rinsing in water first, then the IPA? Its currently in the airing cupboard in almost as many bits as I could make (see photo above).

And is that don’t worry about the paintbrush if there’s already corrosion? I’ve seen a YouTube vid of gently brushing logic board etc with IPA and a toothbrush…

If the screen is fubarred, how much is a new screen? I’m out of contract, so new phone is fairly easy, but would love the info off this phone if possible/not too expensive.

iPhone now in bits. Who knew it would be that easy!

who knows if I can post this

Just hope it is as easy to reassemble…

WYSIWIG – from memory, you do this kinda thing regularly. If no access to pure alcohol/de ionised water, should I just let it all dry out in the airing cupboard?

I’ve got a kilo of silica beads somewhere, but after a house move, all the useful stuff seems to have gone into hiding!

now I know how to break it open, I’ll open it up tonight and chuck it in the rice/silica beads.

    Thanks everyone

I was clearing the pond yesterday and heard a small splash, thought I had kicked in a stone. No ripples, didn’t seem big enough to investigate.

I always lose my phone, so when I couldn’t find it at night thought it was probably in the car… woke in night thinking the worst, it wasn’t in the car this am, so I checked the pond.

Will see what happens but I fear it may be new phone time…

Wary of London Road following the recent QC issues…

But more keen on F&F than full bike as I can then play with the build.

    Thanks ampthill.

If not clear from the first post, I’m looking for a budget Tripster-a-like, so would switch out the bars for drops… I want a road bike to chuck about, commute on (with guards for winter), be comfortable on pave, and that I can sling on big tyres and bounce around off road (pretending it’s a rigid 29er). It seems a full on CX bike might be a bit of a handful for century rides etc and I’m not likely to actually race any CX (certainly not competitively). I liked the idea of decent clearances. Kind of Moon-on-a-stick territory unless I buy into the quiver killer gravel bike niche!

If going the Pinnacle route, I’d look at the Arkose, or maybe the Cotic Escapade for steel, but was hoping that the ACE frame was similar enough to the ATR frame, and I could move on all the bits I didn’t want. I’m happy to build a bike up from spare bits, so F&F is fine.

I was going to bodge my Inbred into some kind of cross bike until it got nicked…

I might have some pre loved Ford Focus foot pack/mounting bits somewhere. Redundant as changed car.

If yours has fixed points in the roof they should fit.

I’ll see what I can find… And will cone up with a price if i have all the bits! You’d just need the bars (cheapest bit!)

    Email should be in profile

As a mild sidetrack, similar story of LBS letting me down today…

Old road bike needs new BB – will cost me more to buy through LBS, but will save me buying specific tools for a rare job.

Dropped bike off, new BB please, whilst there can you chuck on new gear inner and outers and re-index (I couldn’t be arsed). Explained that I use Squirt dry lube, I know chain is worn etc, mechanic I spoke with was fine with this.

Phone call to me saying brake cables and outers need replacing, and new bar tape – I decline, and say I want what I asked for. Repeat of phone call an hour or two later, same response – just do what we agreed on workshop ticket.

Pick bike up – £25 safety check, plus cost of new brake cable and pads, and happy (but worn) dry lubed chain covered in oil. :|

On explaining I have the brake spares (and bartape) at home waiting to go on, and I refused the £25 random mark up; I paid for the BB, and gear cables and brake pads. They are now (hopefully) cleaning all the $h!t off the chain/cassette, so I can re-lube it…

I’m surprised they didn’t try to tell me the latex tubes were punctured and need replacing! But thanks for the crappy valve cap (justifies the £25 I guess).

Despite it being the tour where the first African wore polka dot, no one has mentioned it being the first tour an African has won it, Froome only being British for convenience sake after all

    Do keep up.

No-ones mentioned it as a first win, cos he won it in 2013…

    And he’s British….

Sorry for the hijack… Scaredypants, what was so wrong about it? Currently considering a cross bike vs a gnarmac bike, mainly for New Forest/fire roads/Tarmac, and am leaning towards a CAAADX…
