And I wouldn’t be in hurry to ‘slip’ on a set of Velotoze in transition….

I’d bet you’ll waste more time getting them on and off than from not wearing them!

Remember to enjoy cycling past people in full on TdF TT kit too. Fitness makes you faster, not just the kit

if it is part of an IM or similar, if you go full aero make sure you can run after6 hours in the bike position.

Losing 15 mins on the bike and being able to run is better than a slightly quicker bike and looking like Dan Martin when you try to get off the bike…

(spent a wasted afternoon trying to explain to someone why he had a slower IM time than me – the 2 hours he had to stop and stretch to be able to run after the bike did count towards his total time!)

Off to the garage to top up my tyres then!

I’ll top up via valve core as I have access to syringes at work, and can’t be areas trying to reseat the bead if I open the tyre up!

May switch to bigger tyres later in the year, then I’ll find out how much is left (and how big the latex lump is)

    Thanks all

Cougar – you mention a decent laser printer for around fifty quid, but the link is for one that retails at £250 new…

Any chance of a link to the cheap (but decent) one?

    Thanks

    Onzadog – where are you?

Surely one of the STW dentists can sort you out sooner? (I reckon same going rate as LBS workshop – choc hobnobs as payment…)

Although there seem to be quite a few ‘internet’ dentists on here who’d prob have a go in their shed….

@shandcycles – thanks for the offer (I assume). It’s a bit out if my way…

Danger would be if I dropped by your place to get my frame checked, I’d leave 1) with at least one new frame and 2) be sleeping in this sofa for a while! Have neglected to tell the wife about this new bike yet….

@BelugaBob – it’s a Kinesis Pro6. V2 frame so maybe QC and paint is better than before but there seem to be reports in the past on the ‘net of ‘chippy’ paint, overspray on faces and threads etc…

Kinesis paperwork in box suggests getting everything faced and threads chased. Seems a possible shortcut on QC to me but I also wouldn’t recognise a faced brake mount if it bit me!

And I am hoping to avoid a thread on ‘why don’t my Spyres work?’

Wouldn’t fancy explaining to my mates why I keep puncturing when I try to take Spesh Turbo Cottons up the Koppenberg etc….

Hadn’t realised the Contis went up to 28.

Quite fancy the Challenge Parigi-roubiax, just for the tan wall…

    No-one tried the Schwalbe?

Also earlier in the year my 15min cycle commute was lengthened by an OTB incident and an evening in Minir Injuries having my face stitched – ‘journey’ was about three and a half hours longer than normal! But not sure if that counts….

Years ago I used to live in Southsea with girlfriend (now wife).

Similar, incident on M275 out of Pompey and another up towards A27 left the city in gridlock. After an hour sat goingv nowhere, my now mother in law ended up ditching the car about 250m from her work and stayed at our flat.

So she ended up at home about 14 hours later for a journey that would be around 20 mins normally…

The joys of the road network around Pompey (don’t down mention Gosport!)

    bugger…

Sh!t day at work, cycled home thinking “Sod it, I’ll buy the 60cm Pro6 frame I saw discounted online, almost rude not to, bet it’ll fit”.

Go online to see website has put the red frame back up to the same price as the blue frame so no longer a bargain :(

Back to trying to find bikes to test ride…

Thanks for all the useful (and not so useful) answers.

Having dabbled in tri, I was pretty sure that the people at Slowtwit kinda claimed the honours behind stack and reach, and it’s promoted massively in TT/tri bike sizing… I also realise that it is just a useful way of comparing frames, not everything I need to know.

The annoying thing is that the bike I quite fancy is a Kinesis which doesn’t seem to be easy to throw a leg over in shop (Kinesis have no 60cm in their demo fleet at all apparently), and my LBS is rather limited on brands… I guess the next thing is to see who on here will lend me a 60cm Pro6 and a 58&61cm Caadx to compare.

Had never really measured the Giant before – reckon it’s at least a 60cm seat tube if measuring to an imaginary horizontal top tube. Why did they label them as 58.5cm?!

I am looking mainly at all purpose/CX/Gravel bikes and most seem to top out at 60cm frames… I guess it’s time to call all the not local shops to see who has a 60cm+ bike I can run a tape measure over/test ride. I also realise that a CX/gravel bike prob wont be as stretched as a full on road bike.

Just remembered I hired a bike on holiday last year, a 60cm Emonda and that seemed a decent fit. Off to google the geo now…

ampthill – I’m looking at gravel/CX style frames, and most seem to only go to XL hence I was stuck with those stack and reach measurements.

Did you buy a bike or are you stuck looking like me? What did you go for?

TooTall – thanks for your list – I’ll have a look but never felt 6’3″ was that tall (even if I am grateful for 29ers so I don’t look like I’ve nicked a childs bike).

Without giving Buckster too much credit, the old Hinault style set ups tended to out me on around a 60c, road frame

Having had a pair of M424 (resin platform around standard SPD) and a pair of M520s….

The platform makes no odds at all with half decent cycling shoes (barely contacts the sole, except to interfere with lugs on sole).

However, if you ever want to jump on the bike and ride a few miles to the shop etc in normal shoes, it’s way better than riding 520s in trainers.

The M424s were stolen (along with the rest of the bike) and I haven’t been bothered to replace them if that says anything

5 weeks ago I was nearly in your situation… got away with teeth through upper lip and split chin, so feel for you.

As for surgery, if they are using plates, will you settle for titanium? will you demand carbon? or in true niche STW way, see if they can source some old skool steel?

This posted from that same phone… Pulled apart, couldn’t get alcohol so skipped that bit, left in airing cupboard for 36 hours

    ordered the M670 3x.

Now waiting, wondering if I could fit a 30 in the middle ring position if 32 is too big…

    Does anyone know?

is there any probs hanging a bike vertically?

Any issues on headset or probs with suspension forks being kept beyond horizontal for long periods?

It seems the best way to store them, but puts pressure on the headset/forks in a way that they are presumably not designed for…?

I am aware the ramped rings will be a bit jumpy, but it’s flat round here and it worked on my last 1x til it got nicked (hence low budget to replace)

    madeupname

davewalsh – I’m after the best chainline, do great difference in look/price, and weight will be similar once I’ve binned rings.

    I have spare ‘short’ bolts.

What rings come with builtin threads/spacers?

I am leaning towards the m670 3x, bin the outer and inner ring, should be able to run a 32, and a bash if I fancy later.

andy4d – how do you find the chainline on the 2x? what size ring?

I presume the outer mount, but can you fit a 32?
