Although it does bring to mind the story of someone who advertised “solar power clothes dryer” by mail order way back when that was a thing.

when people sent money he posted out a clothes line….

Riding my bike this morning reminded me that it will act as a dorsal fun if you actually try to be aero…

either it’s a project as Woody says, or just an idea to part fools from money. Can’t see it acting as an airbag if you manage to fall on it, the big (drag causing) air vents will empty it pretty fast…

    Level 4, 55 points to level 5

its pretty pointless but the “20x20min exercise in a  month challenge” does make me extend my commute home (or cycle very slowly!).
and the distance challenges have been used as a reason as to why I have to go for a ride today (really my wife wants me out of the house anyway)

At least sometimes the strava challenges give discounts on clothing brands etc….

To lighten this up a bit…

what if they do the same to vapes? Kill all the Cherry stinking vapour inhalers but at the risk of blowing children’s faces off…

    Makes you think, doesn’t it?!?!?

Strap the alpkit dry bag parallel to the aero extensions and see how it feels?

edit – might need a smaller bag but may not work if you need all of your sleeping kit in there…

    Gerbils – happy childhood memories.

deeper soil/sawdust so they can tunnel as above is better for them but you see a lot less of them.
may be happy being handled but can still remember my older sister with her white (red) gerbil hanging from her finger after it had latched into her…

they can be noisy at night and if you put your dressing gown over the cage to keep them quiet, they’ll eat holes in it

make sure you get single sex or you’ll be inundated in no time. As they breed fast, you may get inbreds with defects.

pros is they are fun but don’t live too long if you do end up being the main carer (just off to clean out the Guinea pig who was def not my pet…)

just keep them away from Richard Gere

Oral B pro range – bucket loads of research behind them. Mid range with quad timer and pressure sensors is all you need.

Sonicare – also lots of evidence behind them. The actual brush movement is the same across all models so no need to spend big…

Oral B iO – oral B say this is the way and they will slowly stop the Pro range. Seem to work well but costly at RRP. Oral B have a lot to lose if they produce a dodgy brush…

Suri and other heavily marketed/social media advertised electric brushes – is there any independent research evident on these? I’ve seen some crap versions that don’t do anything. Also the idea they can be refurbed is great but does anyone sell the parts? From memory Suri was promoted as dismantle-able but now their website is more send them back for a reduced cost replacement. Very much an unknown, likely style over substance…

toothbrushes reliant on standard AA batteries etc – just don’t bother…

beware ‘fake’ or just shit heads on brushes of all kinds. They look ok but some don’t work at all or wear out fast.

a small headed softish manual brush can be effective is used well but a good rechargeable electric brush tends to have better outcomes.

given the cost of dental work (including gum disease issues), get a decent brush, use it well (and clean between your teeth with something better than a waterpik ?) and keep the dentist at bay.

ps I have no links to Oral B or Sonicare.

    Simple options that should help-

warm salt water mouth rinse (teaspoon of salt dissolved in mug of hot water) rinsed and held over the area, 4-5 times a day.

Paracetamol can be very effective of taken regularly. Max dose is 2x500mg four times a day, DO NOT GO OVER max dose. If it doesn’t last you can add ibuprofen between (max 600mg three times a day) if you can take ibuprofen (beware stomach/gut issues and some sensitivities eg asthma sufferers)

corsodyl/chlorhexidine mouthwash may help but can stain if used longterm.

ice/cold water may help unless you have sensitivity.

    avoid smoking/nicotine

clean the rest of your mouth as much as possible.

Dry socket will run it’s course in around a week, you may find some tiny bits of bone shed later.

if unsure contact your dentist for review/more dressing… antibiotics are not always indicated.

sorry you’ve had a bad time

edit – kinesis customer support seem pretty good too

13thFloormonk – Sadly not the impression I got, almost got the impression they were just box shifters i.e. the frameset I bought arrived as if direct from Taiwan, painty threads and numerous bolts missing that they then had the cheek to charge me for, even the bolts required to hold the cantilever brake adapters on weren’t supplied and when I phoned to ask what bolts were required (for a fairly safety critical component you would think) the guy on the phone just gave a sort of disinterested guess as to what might fit.

I do like the products though in general.

Not sure how recent your experience was if looking for canti brake adaptors….

Support was good last week – yes they had put the wrong frame port adaptor in the box in Taiwan, but the guys I emailed in the UK sent the correct one out as soon as they worked out what I meant… (frame designed for full outer routing for rear derailleur, port had built in cable stop).

When I bought the Pro6 I mentioned there was an error on the description (not affecting the bike in use for me) and they updated it.

If buying a frame only, surely most brands are just forwarding a box from Taiwan (even Fairlight)?

If built up in the UK by the brand or LBS, they do all the tidying/facing, but that’s why I can buy a pretty decent frame for ~£700, and then spec what I want on it and build it for less… (I take ages but I prefer building as much as I can myself rather than buy a bike then later bin the bits i didn’t want)

    I know you’ve asked for 50mm 700c but…

just about finished building a Kinesis GX race to replace an old Pro6. Planned use as Jack of all trades,  new forest gravel, commuting, credit card touring, general use if I’m not on my road bike… poss the odd cx race too.

Geo appears almost identical as the Pro6, looks good in deep purple and ‘cheap’ enough not to be too precious about scuffing it. Should run 40mm tyres with full guards. Loved the Pro6 so hoping this is as good

I did look at the Secan but was told the frame I wanted was not available/discontinued when I had convinced myself re cost….

will post pics/review if I can later

edit – kinesis customer support seem pretty good too

Recent install (less than a year)  but so far so good.

Never hear it, plenty of heat and hot water. We replaced ground floor in kitchen/diner so it’s insulated to the nines and wet underfloor heating. Walls and roof insulated. rest of house is still on ‘normal’ rads.  We did have to swap out one radiator to a bigger size but that rooms was cold before on an old gas boiler.
we did replace mains water from meter to house and get better pressure (with pressure vessels) so no need for showerpump (runs two showers for adult and teenage girls at some time).  Needed a  bigger water tank.

cost wise electric only is probably cheaper than old gas boiler and range (we’ve binned gas completely). Run constantly to dry a big concrete slab so first few months were more expensive than planned!    Can’t be arsed at present to fill house with tech to make it as efficient as possible

Downside is you don’t get hot rads to lean on/dry wet cycling shoes fast and it takes a change of mindset to have it run ‘all the time’  against two short bursts of heat morning and evening.

Later if we add solar electric panels, will seems cheaper

Given the ‘bump’ on the profile from Ventoux itself, I’ll take the gorge as downhill from the Garmin elevation graph.

Pretty sure I’ll just follow the hordes as Crazy-Legs says, just need to pace myself…

If I survive, I’ll let you know how I got on

    Thanks again

Thanks everyone. It’s a bit of a bucket list thing, so feel I should do Bedoin route  – would love to do more around there, so will hopefully come back. (I drove up from Malaucene some 20 yrs ago, haven’t been back in the area since).

If that works, a rough loop from Sault to Bedoin down the Gorges, up Ventoux and down to Sault again…

50 miles is ok given around 30 of it is downhill.

Is that the gorge road mentioned above?

I have very limited time to plan a route as I am  off tomorrow!

    So the RhinoWalk K34

stupid me for browsing the forum on a Friday afternoon, with a new frame half built which has bolt holes for a bag like this… Now it’s arriving on Monday!

Will fit in with my random jumble of wildcat/alpkit/polaris/seesense bags nicely (to offend my credit card touring companion with the full matching Restrap set)

(just to point out its 5cm wide x 5.8cm high on the specs, not 8cm high, so nice and low pro for jelly beans, but not enough to take an iPhone SE)

As pointed out earlier the exact forks in the exact colour is half price on merlin as I type. Which leads me to believe they probably want rid of them due to oversupply

the cynic in me says if they have the exact same fork they are trying to offload, how do you know it won’t have exactly the same issue (if it is an manufacturing problem)?

[edit] getting rid due to oversupply (surely a seller will order a similar amount to forks as frames for a bike like this?)  or trying to shifting defect stock?

    As above

report it as a hazard, worried re people touching wires etc… should be out pretty soon

admittedly it  was our main electricity cable that was down (brought doewn by a tree branch in a storm) but when I said I’d go and move it they came pretty quick to stop me!

I enjoyed the tour.  Have followed cycling since around 1990, I do watch with some cynicism, but am the same for all sports…

still surprised there is a whole thread about Pog yet I’ve seen no mention of Jonas Abrahamsen who gained 20kg in a year and suddenly was flying, riding in polka dots for ?10 stages.

what does a 28 year old do to gain that much weight, which also helps him grow 6cm? ?

It’s put down to eating properly leading to a delayed puberty… so he was a pro cyclist at 27 yet hadn’t fully gone through puberty?

this was the ad around the time I bought my first Thomson seatpost. Doesn’t imply compliance to me, more stiff AF!

I’m no engineer but the internal butting doesn’t look like it will promote flex, especially compared to a lighter weight alloy tube or decent carbon.

As for leaf spring canyon style seatposts, I can see how they work but after the damage down to various bits of bike riding one day in Flanders filth, I’d worry it will grind itself to bits.

Slight hijack – looking for a post for similar use. anyone have experience with the Cannonade Save 27.2 seatpost? Seems light enough and no moving parts to trap dirt…

Having run inline Thompson posts on the road, I’ve never thought them very compliant…

New to waxing (silca wax in argos slowcooker)

only issue found so far with waxing quicklink (separately)  is that it can be a faff to get it to seat enough to close… scraped wax off and now it’s fine.

[edit] started with slow cooker in case I didnt get on with waxing, but now cant see the need to spend another £100+ on a specific machine

    So TT tomorrow (July 5th)

Remco seems to be flying (until it goes downhill). Can he take 45s from Tadej?

Will Vingegaard take time back or is he done? Certainly looked cooked over the top of the Galibier and at the end of stage 4… will he ride into form or was the injury too much to come back from so soon?

Can Rog hold his own with those two?

Or will Pogi just smash it?

I used on of these round Oz in high temps, relying on blocks of ice  – pretty effective. Ice cubes are crap.

    https://24tackle.com/igloo-cooler-sportsman-52-green-49liters-p-2367.html

I bought one back in UK and have used it for weekend festivals. You wont have ice cold beers by the last day, but the marg/cheese will be solid. It’s old and seems discontinued but I’d hope that the newer ones are just as good.

The less you open it the better, so plan what you want to get out, don’t let the kids keep opening it (the cold air will sink so it’s not as bad you think). Also important to keep it out of the sun and not in a hot car. If really trying, cover it in a wet towel…

If taking meals, freeze  everything you can so it slowly defrosts, also frozen 2l milk containers of water make great ice blocks and stop the water going everywhere. frozen UHT milk also makes good ice blocks.

Sounds a bit daft but pre chill the esky before you load it (with frozen stuff you arent taking, that can go back in your freezer)

A second drinks esky can work for a day or two, and then switch to red wine…

or splash out on a gas/elec powered fancy fridge/freezer (The cheap powered coolboxes can’t cope even on a warm UK day)

Anyone tried the cannondale SAVE seatpost?

I do wonder how the canyon double leaf design will cope with dust/dirt between the moving leaves…

By the time you’ve got a hammock sleeping bag, tar, underquilt….  how light this is compared to a 1 kilo tent

would you not need a bag and mat in a tent?

So really comparing weight of the hammock and tarp to the weight of the tent?

Then, as above, it comes down to where it may be used…

does the ASHP need a drain in the slab?

Ours was specc’d with a tiny soak away in the middle with a slight fall toward it. I assume it will drip at times, especially if it has to defrost itself.

You may not want that running across the new patio…

But i believe having to work weekends and evenings to fund the trip, along with asking for cash for birthday and christmas, i probably got a lot more life experience than the kids who folks just coughed up.

This  – we washed a lot of cars, and turns out the profit margin on a cheese toastie can be quite high if you can find an audience… it was never charity donations, it was always an Overseas Experience (jolly)

I found well bedded in Swissstop Green 15c pretty good (also keep on top of maintaining the spyres, if the bearings corrode they go downhill and are a bit of a pain to strip).

Have an unused set of green swissstops kicking about somewhere , “luckily” not fitted when my bike was nicked (poor braking on old pads obviously didn’t slow the getaway).

Yours for postage if you want to try?

Ooh a Secan. Do post your feedback.

I liked the look of those, to be told the size I’d most likely want was discontinued in Feb, no reason given.

    Looking for a similar bike.

for disclosure I still ride a 653 steel  ribble from the 90s, and have a Planet X road bike.

Tempted by the CGR Al (now on sale!) but have a Kinesis GX Race on order just to be different and as it has almost identical geo to the bike it’s replacing. Does mean I get to build it (seems cheaper if you buy the parts separately 😬)

Not fussed by logo/branding – pretty sure I’d be smiling on the Ribble/Kinesis/Cotic/Canyon, and I doubt I’d notice any real difference, so which colour paint do you like best?

Don’t know how I found this thread randomly last night, but read with interest.

Now sat in A&E with wife getting the back of her hand stitched up after she tried to open a paint can with a chisel 🤦‍♂️

Didn’t even open the can! But did get blood all over the wall… before she called me at work.

Obviously no decent DT lessons at her school in the 90s!

Hope OP son is ok, if no serious damage it sounds like a good learning experience

Baltany look nice but moving away from disposable (for me).

The simple Lorus above wins, looks idiot proof and I won’t cry if I lose it (and doubt it will look tempting to others). Arriving tomo so will see.

Next up will be Rolex Explorer vs Submariner – which is better for wearing to the pub (it may drizzle)?

This may be a thread diversion but still is about n+1…

I prefer a wristwatch as it avoids checking my phone for the time. Only worn at weekends as can’t wear at work. About to go to Costa Rica and don’t want to wear a my existing analogue or polar watches, in case they go missing/can’t be arsed to charge when away.

Can anyone recommend a nice but cheap ‘disposable’ waterproof watch? Ideally analogue rather than heavy G-shock style as I have skinny wrists.

    Thanks

    Thread revival –

Anyone own (or ridden) a GX Race?

Looking to replace a Pro6 and these seem pretty close – geometry on a size 58 is almost the same as the Pro6 60cm (increase in stack means I can slam the stem!!)

But I can’t find any journo or independent reviews – even on the Kinesis website.

    Thanks

    @Burko73

stolen from Sway, was out of sight in garden but it seems a couple of lads had spent the night wandering the village pilfering stuff. my bike and another from someone else, and it’s amazing how many people leave their cars unlocked (at least 6 cars ransacked).

My bike may have been seen being taken on the train but getting CCTV seems to be hard and the police shut the case the same minute I reported it…

Bike is on Stolen Bike but wont hold my breath. Watching facebook and gumtree/ebay. Sadly dont think I’ll see it again.

    Now what’s the current equivalent?
