    Speak to an accountant and/or go into your local tax office (HMRC) if there is one near you.
    It is your employer or potential employer (therefore client/ customer) that will need to give you the option of being selfemployed, or stay PAYE.

    Schwalbe Technical Information
    http://www.schwalbe.co.uk/shop.sfxp
    Page 14
    "Wider tires roll better than narrow ones. This assertion
    generally generates skepticism, nevertheless at the same
    tire pressure a narrow tire deflects more and so deforms
    more."
    Page15
    "Why do wide tires roll better than
    narrow ones?
    The answer to this question lies in tire deflection.
    Each tire is flattened a little under load. This creates
    a flat contact area.
    At the same tire pressure, a wide and a narrow tire have
    the same contact area. A wide tire is flattened over its
    width whereas a narrow tire has a slimmer but longer
    contact area.
    The flattened area can be considered as a counterweight
    to tire rotation. Because of the longer flattened area of
    the narrow tire, the wheel loses more of its “roundness”
    and produces more deformation during rotation.
    However, in the wide tire, the radial length of the
    flattened area is shorter, making the tire “rounder” and
    so it rolls better."

    Fabric conditioner is as good as any waterproofer, it what makes cotton towels fluffy and useless at absorbing water.

    W L Gore has very good customer service (a least it used to) and are worth phoning to discuss anything made of their goretex fabric regardless of who made the garment.

    The less people know about bikes the further they seem to get: ignorance is bliss.

    Carbon Fibre Reinforced PLASTIC (CFRP)
    Is it the plastic that is being recycled or the fibres?

    "do they use a resin to bind the material or is it just heat that is used? "
    http://www.substech.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=carbon_fiber_reinforced_polymer_composites

    Some CFRP has as much as 70% carbon fibre in it, the rest can be thermo or thermosetting plastic.

    Some people can be a bit fussy about the materials they use
    http://www.formula1.com/inside_f1/rules_and_regulations/technical_regulations/8697/fia.html
    "10) Thermoplastics : monolithic, particulate filled, short fibre reinforced.
    11) Thermosets : monolithic, particulate filled, short fibre reinforced.
    12) Carbon fibres manufactured from polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor. (*)
    13) Carbon fibres manufactured from polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor which have :
    – a tensile modulus ¡Â 550GPa ;
    – a density ¡Â 1.92 g/cm ;
    – unidirectional or planar reinforcement within their pre-impregnated form, not including three dimensional weaves or stitched fabrics (but fibre reinforcement using Z-pinning technology is permitted) ;
    – no carbon nanotubes incorporated within the fibre or its matrix ;
    – a permitted matrix, not including a carbon matrix."

    There are some thoughts on bottom brackets on
    http://www.highpath.net/
    under Cycle information

    "Square-taper bottom bracket
    There are two versions of this design. Both have 2° tapers but JIS (Japanese) ones are slightly fatter than ISO (European) ones; this means that a crank goes further onto an ISO axle than a JIS one. However they can often be mixed so long as each crank mates with at least 2/3 of its axle taper without bottoming on the end."

    There is a small bit of info about bikes in Modern Physical Metallurgy & Materials Engineering (Sixth Edition) by R.E.Smallman R.J.Bishop
    "The latest type of low alloy steel for frames, available in either cold-drawn or heat treated condition (Reynolds 631 and 853), is air hardening. Although inherently very hard (400VPN), TIG welding increases its hardness in the HAZ. It possesses better fatigue resistance than other alloy steels and its strength / weight ratio make it competitive with Ti-3Al-2.5V alloy and composites."
