    “Vocational trainer roles
If you are an experienced welder, electrical or mechanic engineer with experience of training and teaching, you can help to improve the quality of vocational training in developing countries.

You could be teaching mechanics in an all girls’ college in Nigeria, providing the students with a practical skill that will enable them to find work. Or, providing on the job advice to your colleagues, you’ll maintain and improve the standard of electrical and electronic equipment in a hospital in Malawi.

    Experience required
Using your two years’ experience of metalwork, you’ll provide vital training in welding, metalwork and blacksmithing to students in Zambia. Roles are generally longer term, ranging from one to two years, and we also have occasional short term assignments for up to six months. For short term roles, you will need at least five years’ experience in your field and be available to depart within one year.”

    edd,
unfortunately I would really just be guessing.
But the “Evidence of job stability” does say quite a bit and the fact that you say that they have advertised the job before (more than once) does suggest that they have had people come (take time to get up to speed, learn the job) and go (elsewhere for more money, dont like the place who knows?).
    Persistance can pay off.
The interview does rely on you being able to convince them that not only are you the one for the job (that you can do it) but that (if you do not already live locally that you will move) you will STAY a few years.
Other than that I can only really guess.
Sometimes (CVs do not get beyond the personnel department) so a phonecall to the Production Manager / Design Manager can lead to something, or send application / CV direct to Prod / Design Manager (get their names and spell them correctly etc).

Other than that its have a look at some interview technique type books: Patrick Quinn , When Do I Start? is a bit dated but gives you some things to consider.

The brake pedal on a tractor is two pedals together, but you can press either on its own to steer it a bit like a tank or any tracked vehicle.
I cant read nor write but i can draw a tractor.

If you do an off-road driving course you will hear said often enough “As slow as possible, as fast as necessary” it seems to be a motto of off-road driving. Off-road driving is comparable to driving on-road-snow.

“And as the ice and snow begins to thaw in some parts of the UK, concerns have been raised that salt found in water after the thaw could be dangerous for wildlife. A roadside walk with David Harpley from Cumbria Wildlife Trust reveals verges are now providing habitats for species which normally live in salt marshes.”
The message in the program was that the salt (NaCl) is toxic so it is not doing any good.

If you go to a gym and use the exercise bike there, and wonder at the things people around you get up to. Going backwards on the cross-trainer (ski), getting on and off the treadmill leaving it running so they can pick some weights up (running with weights?), and some other incredible antics; the time just flies past!

Does the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
    cover cycle-to-work bikes?

    http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg291.pdf
“What equipment is covered by the Regulations?
Generally, any equipment which is used by an employee at work is covered, for example hammers, knives, ladders, drilling machines, power presses, circular saws, photocopiers, lifting equipment (including lifts), dumper trucks and motor vehicles. Similarly, if you allow employees to provide their own equipment, it too will be covered by PUWER and you will need to make sure it complies.”

The Youngs Modulus of a material is an indication of that materials stiffness. The Specific-modulus of a material is the Youngs modulus divided by the density. Isotropic materials have similar stiffness, strength etc in all directions (up down left right; 3 dimentionally). Steel is generally isotropic, CFRP is anisotropic.

Most structural materials (steel, aluminium, titanium) by an odd coincidence have roughly the same specific-modulus. However CFRP has a much greater specific-modulus than steel, it can vary but is very roughly 3 or 4 times greater. So comparing a set of steel forks with a set of CFRP forks of the same weight; the CFRP forks could be 3 or 4 times stiffer. But since CFRP is not isotropic this will not always be the case.
Carbon Fibre is string, and CFRP plastic is plastic with string reinforcement. So it depends very much of the type of plastic that the carbon fibre is reinforcing. Particularly when the CFRP is in compression; string is good for pulling (tension) not so good for pushing (compression.

Nothing to worry about; but not all CFRP is the same:

“Brittle behaviour is an unavoidable feature of the CFRP. It is necessary that the polymer matrix be glassy; otherwise, the flexing of the tubing during use would dissipate energy. That is, the bicycle would have a “spongy” feel to a rider. Because the polymer matrix is not viscoelastic, it cannot act as a microcrack arrestor when the fibres start to break. The result is that the CFRP used for bicycle tubing is inherently brittle (as opposed to fishing rods or vaulting poles, which are intended to be flexible). Because of this behaviour, it can be risky to make a component like the front fork of a bicycle out of CFRP. Front forks can receive large, sudden loads, and a brittle failure here would obviously threaten rider safety.”
Introduction to Engineering Materials: The Bicycle and the Walkman.
    C.J.McMahon and C.D.Graham

Carbon-fibre is the fancy-string that is reinforcing the various types of plastic that is called CFRP. CFRP is not isotropic.

oldgit, perhaps old age brings wisdom and an enhanced survival instinct. A fear of falling is a reasonable survival instinct; falling can hurt and the hospitals are busy at this time of year.
If you you get left behind by people who have a less well developed survival instinct then is it really a problem?

Any of the well known brands do good winter tyres,
Michelin, goodyear, continental etc plus Vredestien, Sava are good.

Its probably more a case of what if anything you can get, plus 2 (of any )winter tyres is good for the snow but 4 winter tyres in better .

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year : is it not like the Oscars? Only for the people that are directly involved and of no relevance to the general public. SPOTY is a chance for the sports reporters and pundits, hangers-on etc to have something to report in their newspapers.
