I have a neoprene sleeve its good fits like a glove and is waterproof.

But if you get water in the open top of it you are screwed.

Maracas what are your thoughts on it, could you not get on with it?

I think one is negative air and the other is positive air. The red nut is to increase or decrease compression at the end of the stroke.

They are superb bikes I miss mine even though I went to a Blur LTC. Its a fun workhorse of a bike that sucks up whatever you throw at it. If I was going back to it I would either have a 150mm travel fork or even better some 36 Floats with spacers in to change to what feels right for you. For me it was leaving it at 160 but you would have the choice and not lose any of the stiffness which in my opinion far outweighs the small weight penalty.

Ran sorted my Joplin nice guy super quick, think I might need to speak to him again though… 😕

Anyone else have problems with the Joplin 4 brass alignment tabs getting worn out super quick?

When was it 399, for pre order of black?

    m_t_b

Just checked and the white ones are coming in at 599 now. This is becoming less attractive as time goes on 399, 499, 599.. sounds a bit crap but I have 2 black bikes and really wanted a bit of a change but black it might have to be as they are still 499

They do the 456 Carbon Trail build that does not look to bad apart from the QR fork, this bike seems like it needs a 20mm up front to make the most of the tapered headtube then I guess you have to ask them to swap out wheels too – how flexible are they at on one?

Paul may well take you up on that offer as I am in Carmarthen so fairly local – would it fit though as I am 5 11" ?
I am thinking of getting the U Turn versions need to find cheapest deal on a set of air Sektors. Gutted I did not pick up the offer of £399 that was a killer deal you got it seems reasonable at £499

I have been looking at those 456 Carbons. Never thought I would look at a hardtail that way again 😀

Anyone got any experience of it?

Thanks for the pointers I am still shaky over tabletops compared to with SPD's maybe its just a time thing. I know there are certain point where you should load/unload the pedals but I am finding that as soon as one pedal feels sketchy its throwing me. How do you keep your feet planted whilst in the air, pressure down with legs – pull bike up?
This is pointing out my bad habits fom wearing SPD's could sail over with them 😐

Its been sat next to my loo for the past 3 months and I have now read it cover to cover about 3 times – I have been riding for 15 years and found it has reaffirmed what I am doing right and given me some great direction on tackling other stuff correctly. Great book.

Scared me then I thought you had snapped your frame (I got one too) you were lucky I ride alu bars after a similar thing happened to me.

So does that mean you are still using the same amount of energy/force to pedalbut it just feels different?

Mud x I was amazed by it last winter will not run anything else now. Cuts through mud and is rock steady on everything.

    I went from a fox 36 to a rev 150mm team… lasted about 2 weeks then I went back to a fox 36

once you have a set of 36's its hard to ride with anything else. this is on my 5.5" bike

"I've covered the entire rear end in copter tape to try avoid scratches weakening the weave."

do scratches weaken the weave? if this is the case my frame should be in the bin.

Amazing as previous said the 3.40 bit where he is hammering with a cliff next to him is nuts… and inspiring. His book is well worth £12 you might not be doing what he is doing but great tips

"Service is great and if you have to phone them they are always easy to get a hold of."

Very true they have helped me out no end. My top 2 are Merlin and UK Bike Store I find them to be similar companies to deal with.

What a nice bloke he is. Unfortunately its not good as he said it could be stuck at either end so if you force it something might give. 😕 gutted.

Thanks for putting me in touch.

Just have shortened the chain it is too its limit now, thanks for the link very informative. I understand what you mean by frame clearance not being the problem, I guess it just makes the problem worse. I will check out the rings, the chain is new and its cleaned & lubed often

I have a 73mm BB and am using one spacer on the drive side so could this be the problem? If so is there anything I can do would rather sort it that protect the frame and hope for the best.

I have one and so far love it, I am running the 2011 fox talas 36's on it with 160 to 120mm travel adjust and an RP23 shock. I only swap out to 120mm when its so steep I cant keep the front end down. For more moderate climbs I leave it at 160mm as it feels more natural at this setting, the geometry suits 150-160mm even for long steady climbs. Its worth mentioning though that I run with no spacers on the headset so the front is a little lower.

Pedalhead, I had that creak as well in lower pivot I serviced all the pivots and it seems ok now. I think when it was shipped the pivots were not done up very tight and there was no loctite so they worked loose and caused the back end to have some play. What was the problem with yours? I also had to replce the DU shock bushing after 3 months due to the above I think.

One thing to bear in mind if you buy one is do some work on protecting the frame mine has had a bit of a kicking around the chainstay lower pivot… breaks your heart 😀

    I am 5 11 with a 90mm stem on a large

Check out biking the Queen Charlotte if you are not taking bikes you can hire good spec bikes locally. They take you out in a boat drop you off at the start of the trail and you have 2/3 days of singletrack back to Picton along the sounds, I dont think there is one time that the sea is out of view! Amazing views great trails and there are backpackers to stay at on the trail… I miss NZ they do outdoors so well
