It is true though the 2013 to 2014 are very different forks I went straight from one to the other and it was night and day.

Brilliant so far taken some pretty big hits and are rock solid. Lovely feel to them, if I was to buy new wheels it would be these rims again.

Bike manufacturers are also saying there is little/no difference, well Santa Cruz did. Says allot when you compare their comments and lack of enthusiasm for 27.5 to Giants spin.

    Worlds apart.

I don’t think you’ve fully considered the consequences of bringing trails to life. What does a trail eat? Will the natural predators (landowners and dobebrs doing skids) be enough to keep them under control, or will they end up driving out less magical life? How do we stop them from wandering off? And is it even ethical to ride over a living trail? I wouldn’t ride over a trail made of cats, it’s basically the same thing.

For these reasons I have sold no 650b bikes.

😆 I’m amazed no one had even considered this angle yet 😆

ESI chunkys are ok but I have tried all methods Charlie has given me to keep them from twisting on my bars and they still do it. Also if you are used to a harder compound they can feel small when you grip them as they are so soft. You could try Lizard Skin Northshores they are nice and long too unlike the odi rogues they are 15-20mm longer which is great for those with big hands.

Crossmark UST perhaps, don’t go Nobby Nic amazing tyres but they wear out in 15 mins. Maxxis UST tyres are hard to beat for longevity I have been trying others for years but always seem to come back to them.

Tenacious tape is excellent worked on mine. I did use a bit of superglue directly on the hole too.

Anyone know how big UST crossmark 2.1 29″ come up against a 29″ ardent 2.25?

Ha! I did exactly the same as OP thought Nobby Nic was the holy grail of the rear… but no its not the messiah its just a Brian. Its been great for couple of months then last night it rolled off my rim a few times and generally felt like crap I put it down to there being a bit more moisture around and the insanely quick rate it wears. Im off back to UST Ardent or might try Crossmark bombproof fit and forget.

I have had mine for about 3 months now I bought when I was in the states. Its a very adaptable bike I have a Minion 2.5 on the front with 140mm 34’s and it flys downhill. Its an all rounder but if I was to pick the type of trails it really is at home on then I would say flat or dh swoopy singletrack, loves berms and feels good in the air. I had an SB95 before this and although it might just be a little more stable going downhill its not as much fun as the Ripley.

It is very agile, amazing for a 29er when you are in tight trails, and just makes me smile lots when I ride it! Strava wise this knocked about 20 secs off a 3 min run of swoopy singletrack with small tables and big berms but on proper DH it equals out with the SB95, which I am fine with as that thing is a beast. Oh yes and its probably 2x as efficient going uphill, as I said earlier its genuinely very adaptable and straddles XC to heavy trail use depending on the build. Mine is 27.5 lb with a LEV dropper and light bike carbon rims.

All good for me, try ringing them up rather than placing order online they sourced a SRAM part for me and automatically gave me a 25% off the RRP very approachable and are now my first choice along with the incredibly nice chap at UK Bike Store 😀

Had a reverb it died after 3 months now got a LEV and find it allot better. Unless you have routing for stealth I would go with a LEV not just because it seems to work better but also the annoying cable has gone which would get in the way on descents.

Had about 10 rides on my 32t wolftooth and not lost the chain once using it with a type 2 mech and no chain guides, I got charged £16 customs so worth asking them to mark it down in value.

Lizardskin carbon leather downtube protectors are very good, just remember to clean the area first with provided alcohol rub and they don’t come off

Considering getting a 2.3 29er Purgatory but a bit concerned about clearance height wise could someone please let me know if this is a tall tyre? Would be great if someone has it and can let me know the height and the rim it is seated on.

I have a Yeti SB95 which with 127mm of rear travel is a little more than you have mentioned but it absolutely rips. Has the shortest chainstays of any FS 29er so very nimble and the rear suspension does not wallow gives lots of feedback. Overall I have been v impressed after 6 months.

I thought Maxxis were releasing a Minion 29er that would solve all my tyre issues but I can only find rumours and a prototype of it last year and nothing more… know anything about it?

I have these. Landed some pretty big stuff on them. These meet all strength tests required… would not be able to sell them otherwise.

In terms of width they are fine so no they did not seem tight, I didnt let all the air out of the shock compress it and check that its not hitting the seat tube, not really something that I would think of doing if I am fitting tyres that are the right size for the bike.

I guess my take is that manufacturers would test some of the more popular tyres in frames. The day this happened was a rare dry dusty day with no mud.

I have covered a fair few miles on a set of 29er 140mm 34’s I miss having the tuning I am on trail hard setting, there are 3 different setting for trail and am finding that there is not enough compression it dives through the travel and has bottomed out on tabletops and drops. I am still playing with psi I am up to 80 though and that seems allot to me.

    Jury is out
