Weight is gong to be the killer isn’t it? I’d rule out wheeled luggage on this.

For example, Osprey make some of the lighter luggage out there Ozone 36 wheeled luggage is 1.92kg, whereas the Farpoint 40 backpack is 1.32kg.

I do like my North Face luggage, and the Surge 2 is a decent laptop/weekend bag.

    Yes – watch less tv.

I’m watching more since I unplugged and got broadband :?

What your describing as a central way of searching content across different providers is exactly what Apple previewed for the new Apple TV.

Sounds perfect IF they get all of the services on board.

Tvaddons.ag. youl. Never use anything ever again and its free….

Looks ok, I’m not really keen on streaming from my mac or phone though, much prefer standalone devices. I know the new Apple TV will take downloadable apps, so maybe it’ll work on there in the future.

find series on Netflix, watch until all is finished, move on to next one.

That’s pretty much what I do now 8)

I wonder if there is a market for a TV guide APP then. One where you select your services and it can see your watch lists and favourites. Those that are weekly (such as iPlayer) go on a planner, those that crossover different platforms are shown to do so, and it has a movie search bar that searches across all of your preferred services.

IF that is what Apple are going to do, then great. I reckon it won’t happen for every service/channel out there though. So maybe an independent version is needed. It could be used on a PC/Phone?Table so you can lan your viewing on the train home, or the sofa. Like getting a pen out and circling your favourites in Radio Times magazine. Old meets new?

App developers, you can have that one for free :P

If you join the BMC you’ll get 15% of at Cotswold Outdoors (most people have one nearby). It really is a case of trawling the web though if you’re after the very best deals, and not being fussy about brands.

When it gets to situations like this I think “what can I buy for £700” and it’s usually not very much. Better the devil you know, as suggested above.

The only time I get rid of a car is that it’s gonna cost serious money to fix, AND I know there’s a list of other problems that will need fixing very soon and the car is really ready for scrapping.

However, if you want to change your car anyway, and feel yours is pretty much ready for scrapping, then it’s probably the right time to do it.

Autotrader has a really good search function I find, gives me an idea of what is available, locally, within my specs. A good starting point (even if most of the listed vehicles are already sold!).

You do know that you’ll have to stream most of the stuff you want from your iphone/ipad, and some of it won’t stream?

use it for all of that Neal – has all of those on it, Netflix too.

Really? You sure your Apple TV has iPlayer, 4OD, itv player on it? Don’t think so.

I’m happy with mine but will be upgrading as soon as I know what Apps will be available on the new one. I find mirroring/streaming from my iPhone or MacBook a bit of a clunky system (despite how well it actually works) when I just want to put the TV on and watch something.

I’d wait for the new one to come out and see if the services you want are directly available as Apps on the new tvOS. Or just buy a new Now TV box for £10-£15?

Just wasted my week off with it, didn’t get on holiday. Typically feeling well enough to be going back to work tomorrow. Not sure if I should be happy that I’m getting better or sad that I’ve missed having a holiday. Guess I should be grateful I’m getting back to full health but I am feeling kind of indifferent right now!

The plethora of models and marketing blurb is unbelievable!

That’s why I went to a shop. Let them do the hard work explaining and demonstrating them all :-)

I recently bought a Panasonic and am very happy with it (not 4k though, but I’m really not fussed about that). Seemed far better picture than the rest (except the Sony or 4k’s) when I was shopping around.

    But…

The only way to tell is to go to Currys or Richer Sounds or wherever and have a look. I thought they’d all be the same but they’re definitely not! With deals and price matches there’s no reason not to go into a store to buy one TBH. Also the menu/operating systems vary, so I gave up trying to find one that had ALL of the services I required and accepted I’ll be buying a separate box for that.

Plenty of deals around for way under £1k, and you don’t need a Tesco special to keep the price down when you can get nicer Panasonic/Sony etc on a deal.

I was in Coed-y-Brenin forest for cake and tea recently and I thought I would do some STW policing of the vehicles people had arrived in

How do you know they weren’t just there for tea and cakes and didn’t have bikes with them?

he couldn’t even get off his drive when it snowed.

I hear that a lot, and there’s a dead simple solution to it…don’t be a lazy bastard and start digging.

Nothing to do with the car you own! Our police force does pretty well with their BMW’s

Not everything that’s for sale is marketed, though.

    Interesting thought. Any examples?

    m360

It’s more of a side swipe at the way these things are marketed. No need in my opinion.

That’s true of EVERYTHING that’s for sale surely?

Thing is, it’s not about you lot. You’re all mad keen cyclists, wearing a plastic hat isn’t going to put you off – and like with funny padded shorts, wearing a helmet is all part of the “getting dressed up to ride a bike” thing which lots of people enjoy.

It’s about the reluctant cyclists. The tubby bloke who really should go for a cycle along the canal instead of sitting in front of the telly. The commuter who thinks she should cycle for the sake of the environment, but the car is easier.

For them, wearing a plastic hat is a turn off. It turns them from a normal person into a cyclist, and we all know what normal people think of cyclists. You don’t want to be one of them. Your mates will laugh at your silly hat, and real cyclists will sneer because you’re too slow.

I know it’s a hard attitude to understand if you’re a keen cyclist, but we don’t really need more keen cyclists, we really need more normal people on bikes.

This, everything else is preaching to the converted IMHO.

Reckon you’d be looking at a tipi type tent to be honest. Tall tents aren’t usually light tents.

Personally I think a tarp and your current 1 man tent would be the best bet – a small increase in weight but give you that “living space” if you joined the tent with a tarp to your bike/fence/tree/etc

Used it for two years and it works just fine (one year on PC, one year on Mac when I transferred). No issues on the Mac.

I use iCloud now (for storage and syncing between iPhone and MacBook and Apple TV) and pay 79p a month for 50GB of storage so that does me, but guessing you know about that and have reasons for needing to use OneDrive.

But seriously who isn’t running a dropper

    Me.

Am I the only one who runs a dropper for the occasional undulating ride, but for normal duties takes it out and puts a standard post in?

Probably, yes, as I can’t see how that doesn’t defeat the point of a dropper :?

So this is coming down to how good looking they are and not how good they’re business idea is?

    Yeah, it’s tellie innit?

If their business idea was THAT could they wouldn’t need to be on TV!

(As it happens I usually get the two finalists right, if not the actual winner)

I haven’t read the book, but I did enjoy the film because:

    Didn’t take itself seriously
    Was humorous
Was never going to be scientifically accurate, so didn’t waste the story trying to be
Had zero love interest in it (so many films are a “love story” wrapped up in whatever genre these days – Armageddon for a sci-fi example)

Overall I thought it was fun and enjoyable and worth a watch 8)

So meat equals shit fast food? Have a word….you’re exactly as bad as the anti veggies….

Not at all, I was highlighting the poor diet choice as the key component to the argument that I was responding to. Be it a meat based, or meat free diet. You found teh obvious flaw in the argument though – well spotted

I don’t give a shit about other peoples diet choices and don’t preach about them, neither do the majority of vegetarians that I know (which is quite a lot).

    Edit: Cougar got it 8)

Most of the vegans i know have poor health/low energy and it’s usually a drama. Meat makes you strong! Call troll if you like, just being honest.

Odd. Most of the meat eaters I know are overweight, and the majority of those over 50 have heart problems. They also cause a drama every time I quietly order the vegetarian option on the menu, yet I say nothing about their menu choice.

Poor diet makes you weak/poor health. By your logic, eating this everyday

is going to make you healthier a stronger than eating this?

I think some engineering job specs are often a wish list rather than ‘must haves’. They’re often worth applying for if you meet some of the spec

Totally agree. Often written by agencies that don’t know the difference between a plant fitter and a maintenance fitter for example.

    No. No. No.

Stantons FTW. Beef dripping and their “secret” custard powder batter.

Bells use beef dripping also. And not sure the last time you used Stantons, but there’s nothing special about their batter anymore. Not saying it’s bad, it’s just not great.

Oldfields is good and can cope with 20 people if you pre-book.

Berghaus Deluge pants come in long leg lengths. Decent enough for the money and perfectly fine for commuting.

Convert – if it’s properly lashing down and you don’t have facilities to get showered/dried at work then overtrousers/shell jacket and slowing down to regulate your temperature is the only option really.

I’d be more bothered with weight, comfort and beam pattern. Something like the Silva Trail Runner is designed for, well, running!

Any one else finding Safari really really slow, like taking 20 seconds to open a web page that used to take 3 or 4 seconds?

    Nope, mine seems faster now.

I didn’t realise but think that time-machine was doing a full backup (200gb) after the install, so things were a bit slower. Since that’s finished and I’ve done a restart everything is running perfectly.

I asked a similar question a while ago. I’m close to buying an etrex 10 for £80. Not sure I need mapping at all so that does everything I’ll need, and wil be good for hillwalking use as well.

You may need a week off exercise (one in four is reasonable rest period, with 1 day off a week). And probably could do with upping your calorie intake by 1000 cals given your exercise regime.

Do you not eat back your exercise calories (if 1500 is your daily base in mfp, before exercise for example)? What you’ve been doing has obviously worked, so subtle changes may be all that’s needed, and rest!
