And yet my tool station jobby has had a serious amount of use (for a 115mm grinder anyway). Bought in a hurry for one job, to be replaced with a Makita when it packed-up…still using the tool station one!

The only thing I’ll never do again is use a cupped wire wheel in one again. Nearly killed me and took months for the scars to heal :?

“Please may I have another bag?”

That would involve speaking to someone, why do that when you can keep quiet and “shout” about it on a biking forum when you get home?

Next year they’ll be charging for bags, then they’ll be throwing them at you ;)

There is still a big element of goodwill surrounding Ebay because the potential for fraud is there

Since ebay stopped you leaving negative feedback for buyers, and gave buyers the right to a refund no matter what (they just have to open a case), the fraud is now coming from buyers rather than sellers.

    Rolling Bike Stand

I just got two of these. Ok, they’re cheap and it shows but they’re ok. Allows me to clean/lube the bike outside then push it back in. Should save my saddle and bar tape from resting it against the wall. I’m happy for £7, especially as I had a gift card. What the hell else would I spend a Maplin gift card on?

They’ll sell plenty, especially when they’re reduced to 50% off next month (and forever more).

Out on a bike ride this morning and I’m more visible than 50% of the vehicles on the road!

What are you complaining about? I’m invisible to nearly every vehicle wanting to pull out of a junction from either side of the road. Those that do see me don’t give a sh*t. A 50% increase in visibility would be appreciated!

They’ll be leaving it a few more days, then filling an “item not as described case” which, will result in you refunding them or ebay refunding them and you owing ebay.

Blackburn EX-1. Works a treat and is very strong. It doesn’t stick out that far with the disc spacers, and includes a longer skewer all for £30.

Once you’ve gone Mac you won’t go back.

well you certainly won’t be able to afford to after you have paid twice the price to have some residual value etc…..

You won’t want to after experiencing a Mac. I’ve used PC’s since school. Well, BBC Micros, upwards. Got a MacBook earlier this year and have had zero issues with it, not one, not a single bit of malware or third party software installed, not a single blue screen or reboot required. And I use it a lot (most of the time).

Twice the price for infinitely less trouble…I’ll certainly save and buy one again!

Regarding residual value, I had a 2 year old Sony Vaio, rrp £1000, went back for a new motherboard, endless crashing, rubbish battery life. Eventually sold it for £120. A 2 year old MacBook Air would fetch way more money, and it rrp’s for the same price. Spec? On paper the Sony was better, side by side the mac is 20 times quicker.

I’m now an Apple fanboy I guess…or maybe just a disgruntled (20+ years) PC owner who finally thought “there must be a better way”.

OP – I sympathise with your problem. My parents don’t know better (or anything) about computers. It’s taken me many visits to uninstall and disable loads of rubbish on there’s that made it unusable. No wonder so many people get hit with viruses and scams, it’s hard to tell what is genuine or needed and what isn’t. I’m seriously thinking that my parents could get by with an iPad for what they do and it would be far less hassle for me!

    Buy a second hand frame

This, get a steel one and it will last a lifetime if looked after/repaired when needed,so that surely has to be the best option if you’re bothered about that sort of stuff.

Anyone know the BTP response to this “incident”.

It is inconsiderate and impatient driving, the type faced everyday. An advanced trained driver should know much better than that though.

What’s wrong with Hope? I’ve used them for 10 years without complaint. I’ve avoided STW for many of those 10 years though…

Can’t be doing with all that sugary cycle fuel.

    I beg to differ:

    scone and jam
    2 chocolate pancakes
    jelly babies
    Squeezy fruit purees
    1 litre Apple Juice
    1 litre grape juice
    4 cans of Pepsi
    1 can of Irn Bru
    8 bananas
    Packet of fig rolls
    2 Ambrosia rice pudding
    packet of wine gums

You had way more sugar than they did. WAY more (and more than that, as bread and ham also contain sugar). So, not really sure what you point is, except that you haven’t found an energy gel that you like the flavour of?

    Of course they would.

The majority of the population might not though

The relevance is that it’s not actually the bare minimum for night riding. That’s all. Then again, I don’t believe that 650b is the bare minium wheel size, or 140mm is the bare minimum fork length, so no one’s gonna take any notice of me anyway

Saying that, the C&B seen lights in your link do look better than my candles and seem good value (I get through a lot of matches). And my skin has gone a funny orange colour as a result of all those carrots 8O

OP – I’d look at getting a different seat post to suit your frame. Having a post snap isn’t going to be fun, and even with shims/tape/whatever, you’re clamping in an area not designed for clamping. Having spent £100 on a seat post I’d want it to be perfect and not be worrying about the fact I’d clamped it where I shouldn’t, and it would certainly invalidate any warranty claim if the worst did happen. You may get more than you think for it second hand – folk often pay way over the odds for stuff on ebalg for example.

Get talking the chap who turns out to be Rik Garner, one of the first guys to build mountain bikes back in the late 70s.

    Sounds like a great trip.

the bare minimum would be a decent 500 lumen light

Yeah, because none of us used to ride at night before 500-1000 lumen lights became available

Be worth contacting one of the cycle mags and the organisers about it. The event could be stopped or the organisers include a sweeper next year if the local authority/site owner are made aware of the issue.

Have you tried a touch pad? I was set on a bluetooth mouse, but touch pads are great when you get used to them. Most have scroll, double-click, zoom functions etc. The apple one is great, but sure others are available for PC’s if needed.

Oh, and it’s easy enough to add bottle mounts. Plenty of aftermarket types if you do a google search.

I’m using Panaracer Pasela TG, 28mm on mine. Seems good enough on dry woodland sections, grips well on gravel (or gravelled/gritty road sections anyway) and in the wet. Must say, I’m as happy with them as I was the Schwalbe Marathons, and they are a third of the weight!

Based on what you’ve said about comfort, I’d go and try a few on and buy which you think is the best fit.

I rode all afternoon, in the rain, with no rear brake (it broke), belting down bridleways faster than my mate could keep up. Nice when you get a small twitch of front lock-up on the gravel, just as you were already backing off the brake. You know you’re on the limit!

I’ve yet to work out why, despite the cable lengths, my front always feels spongier and has more levee travel than the rear though, on my CX and XC bikes?

Ok, so thanks to this I found it in my iTunes library, but had no idea it was there.

So…are there any other albums that are free and I’m missing?

And…how would I have known if I hadn’t read this thread? I still don’t know how to find it in iTunes without going to my library-artist. This is on MacBook, so maybe I don’t have the same views as the above?

Yeah, i’ll get it back to the shop, but i fear they’ll just say “its fine”.

Why would they?!?! It’s not fine, they’ll see that, and rectify it. They have to, and they will know that.

If they say “it’s fine” then don’t come back here moaning. Grow a pair and tell them it isn’t and you want it sorting or a refund

Are we not supposed to paying full RRP +10% biscuit tax for stuff now or is that just cassettes and suspension forks.

I dunno, can’t keep up as it seems there’s no pleasing most people.

PSA – Cheap as you like, plus cash back, plus anyone got a £5 off voucher?

    But what about your LBS?

They’re overpriced, rude, and fit forks the wrong way

yeah, but if you take them biscuits that’ll fix it, right?

Why should I take them biscuits, they should be giving ME biscuits

Wiggle gives you Harribo at Xmas, and did I mention the cash back?

    Did I mention the biscuits?

    I don’t even HAVE a LBS

Yeah, but I got a £5 off CRC voucher

So she got the price wrong to the detriment of her employer? Like the idiot at JDSports who insisted in giving a tenner change extra until I got his manager who corrected him.

No, but don’t let that stop a bit of minimum wage shop worker bashing

When we did our Wales road trip we just called B&B’s and asked them if they had somewhere to leave our bikes securely. Most let us use their garage.

Have they moved away from the NVO stem then? I need a 90mm 10 degree stem for my Expede and so far finding one is proving impossible!

I quite like the system, it’s a shame the stems aren’t available.

Put a lock on the door and a keep out sign.

Seriously though, do you ever ride the bike? How do you not get tyre marks, chain lube and mud all over the spare room?!?!

    m360

Maybe these people who say Halfords/their LBS/wherever fitted them are too embarrassed to say that they did it? Many of these bikes arrive flat packed (even Halfords give you the option to NOT have a bike build by them) for “easy customer assembly”.

If you don’t need a cyclocross bike then a road bike is a cheaper/more available option, with better specs for the money. CX seems to command a premium.

Be realistic what you will ride on it. Find one that has clearance for mudguards and bigger tyres (28mm is a good option) and have a look around. I have a CX bike, but realistically could ride most of what I do on a road bike. Unless you want proper mud-plugging ability on it, I’d go for a road bike.
