Apols for the threadjack but one of my EB3’s is pretty knacked and I’d happily buy a complete replacement kit. However I’m obviously being a numpty as I can’t find any stockists.
Anyone able to help?
m1keaFree MemberThis site at Balcombe saw exploratory drilling back in the 80’s.
It’s only a couple of miles from me and TBH I’m not that interested/bothered at the moment. However it is above the River Ouse which is key water source for this part of Sussex. – That might pose problems in future if they do start extraction and if there are genuine contamination issues.
m1keaFree MemberNick, dunno where my mate got his frames from. Are you talking about that Retrobike one?
Seeing Boris’s HT last year was vaguely spooky as it was the first time I’d seen a similar Spesh.
Judging from the tiredness of the frame, it’d definitely be worth checking all the components and seeing how knacked they are.
m1keaFree MemberI brought an SWorks FSR off a mate 4 years ago. It’s M5 and the interweb suggests it dates from 2001. – One here on Retrobike
I’m also fairly sure he’s got an M5 HT of similar vintage and that IS mint.
m1keaFree MemberBased on similar conditions and being more organised with my stops, I reckon I could get close to 9 hours. 8.5 or less is seriously speedy 8)
Dave, I honestly don’t believe there were any significant head winds en route. I’ve been on the Downs and had my glasses shifted on my face it’s been so windy. Oh and I didn’t start until 7:40 so definitely wouldn’t have been an early finisher.
IMO there aren’t enough descents to bring average speeds back up so you’re looking at tanking each and every climb. I’d like to geek some stats from the fast boys just to see where time is made or lost.
m1keaFree MemberPeaslakeDave
What terrible headwind? ❓
I’m being serious here as it wasn’t very windy and what there was was largely a NWerly.
I managed it in 9:49 elapsed – http://app.strava.com/activities/68508435
As to pro riders, I reckon you’d be looking at 7 hours depending on support levels – water changes & gate negotiation etc.
The main difference between Pros and the rest of us is they’d not be knacked for another 6 + hours riding the next day or the day after that.
m1keaFree MemberWhen I first joined here I found the jumble of topics err, a jumble.
I’ve got used to it now but I still think some sub divisions would be beneficial.
How about
Wheels and tyres
Drivetrain
Brakes and other components
How tosYou wouldn’t even need to segregate them by type of bike. 😉
Oh and I’ve always been a roadie who’s had an MTB since 94.
m1keaFree MemberI got my first Exposure light in 2007 and currently have:
6 Pack,
Enduro
Race
Diablo
Joystick
Two Red Eyes
Flash & Flare
Separate batteryAs you can see I’m a bit of a fan but I’ve finally given up on the FnF as they’re too unreliable. If the front plays silly burggers at least you can see it’s flickering. Unfortunately the rear is more tricky to monitor, and when you’re on the road, that’s always a bit of a worry.
I’ve re done the spring, tried normal batteries and they’ve been back to Exposure so I think I’ve covered all the standard ‘fixes’.
Recently got one of the Leyzne Micro rears and have been very impressed with it.
Yes it’s much bigger than the Flare but it works and there’s a better selection of modes. Haven’t used it on a MTB as yet but the mount seemed OK and duct tape is cheap if you’re worried about it bouncing out.
If you already have an Exposure light, I’d recommend a Red Eye, especially if you ride on the road. If you’re after a portable backup, then Leyzne imo.

Which Devinci is that?
I’ve been pleased with my Dexter but the lure of CF is always there.

Yes please.

It’s at work so I’ll ping you a copy tomorrow.
m1keaFree MemberFLAC off a Readynas – Beresford Cayman DAC – SB Duet – Denon AVR1800 amp -> MA Bronze speakers
Have only ever owned one CD player, a Marantz CD52 which I brought in 1991. Tis still connected up
I used to chat with a guy on a car audio forum years ago and he was seriously into his acoustic treatments. I still have his spreadsheet dealing with room acoustics and mode points.
Never put anything in place but shout if anyone wants a copy.
m1keaFree MemberJust to resurrect this and to thank all who’ve commented.
I think we can put this to bed now as we have enough of a
fudge in placesolution.Amending the mailbox Display Name(s)has been OK with IS restarts though we still haven’t had any joy getting Public Folders to update.
We can live with this so case closed 🙂
m1keaFree MemberPerhaps the only thing worth checking is the Q factor (width between the crank arms.
I put a 2X10 XTR on my full sus last year and the drive side is very close to the chainstay.
This may just be down to it being XTR – ymmv
m1keaFree Memberwwaswas
Don’t you mean one of these?
But yes Exposure should be able to supply a longer plastic bolt.

responses in no particular order
No test box to play with, hence limited testing on live server 😐
“Just to clarify you only need to change the sent from name, you are not worried about the actual return address?” – YEP
Migrate to the cloud? Hmm I don’t think so. Plus we’re allegedly going to be integrating with the
mothershipparent company at some point so this will either go away or become someone else’s problem!I concur about this likely to be a AD issue but scooting through adsiedit and ADexplorer for pattern matches only really flagged up x.400 entries which is unlikely. Plus we’re also looking at mail enable Public Folders as well.
I’ll look at hot_fiat’s links.
m1keaFree MemberMy current road bikes
Etape (Ti)
Giant TCR SL (CF)
Felt F4 (CF)
Argon E112 (CF)Discounting the Argon as it’s a TT bike, I’ve got these for different types of riding.
The Felt should really go as it’s a bit dead and arguably the wrong dimensions, but it gets used as the 2nd best, dry weather road bike.
The Etape is the winter wagon and whilst it’s the heaviest, it’s seen the most miles and is I guess the most comfortable. I also have a Ti TT frame that I might resurrect.
The Giant is a breath of fresh air compared to the other road bikes I’ve owned over the years. Yes it’s very racey and taut but at the same time it’s surprisingly compliant and more importantly, the geometry is right for me.
If you’ve got the opportunity I’d say try a CF frame for variety and ‘Sunday Best’ type rides. I can from experience say that CF frames aren’t equal and that after the correct fit, construction and materials DO make a noticeable difference.
m1keaFree MemberMorning all
reboot and MS patching made no difference.
Restarting the IS after one simple display name change DID generate a change. However subsequent tests and IS restarts haven’t done anything. 🙁
Monkey boy
Used to use EE when you could check their answers in Google cache 😉 They want £13 a month now!
m1keaFree MemberCheers folks
The IS will cause enough disruption so we might as well go for the full three finger salute and patch the beasty at the same time.
PITA if bouncing the IS is the only way to quickly force changes 😕
m1keaFree MemberChaps
We’ve been plissn about with this all day and I’ve lost count of the amount of tests I’ve done!
Can’t bounce the IS during working hours so we’ve got a reboot in for tomorrow morning; – there’s the obligatory 8000 .net patches to apply from this month’s patch Tuesday 🙄
For the Public Folders, what do you think is the relevant setting: – Alias or Simple Display Name?
m1keaFree MemberNo
we have multiple customer facing mail boxes and mail enabled public folders set up and running. It’s trying to update their ‘sent from’ settings that’s not working.
So instead of the customer receiving a message from “order.fulfilment@bigcompany.com” we want it to display “customer services”
m1keaFree MemberAgreed.
We’re trying to change ‘Customer Services’ to display something else and the server just won’t play ball.
Tweaking our own mailboxes to get the messages to say from “anton, mike” or “Mike’s the best”, makes no sodding difference and trying this on the various public folders is even more of a fail.
m1keaFree MemberSprocket
Thanks for the reply but that’s not what I asked about.
Sending messages isn’t the problem, it’s changing the displayed ‘sender’ address that is.
I suspect we might get a result if we restart the IS but that’s not going to be overly popular!
m1keaFree MemberScrum
Interesting to hear the RAM isn’t as good as it was. 🙁
Doesn’t quite fit with the captains requirement but the Cinders buffet on the Lavender line is a favourite stop on club runs 🙂
m1keaFree MemberCougar
It isn’t secret but I didn’t want to bore all and sundry. 😀
Basically we want to amend a selection of mailboxes and public folders so that their display name/alias/sender id/your term of choice is the same.
I.E instead of receiving mail from “john smith” or “orders”, the message(s) would appear from say, “customer services”.
Having NO joy in amending simple display names, aliases or even amending x.400 entries.
Stumped.
m1keaFree MemberA bit further east – http://www.theblackboys.co.uk/
I’d also echo the Ram, and with a bit of travel, you can then pop in to http://www.middlefarm.com/ and their excellent cider shop.
m1keaFree MemberGood effort sir.
I never have and never will bike camp so props for doing that all self supported.
Like STM I do like the idea of a semi supported ride over 3ish days.
m1keaFree MemberOn their forum there’s a link to the lady who was out for the start and finish here
I shot the 1st lap whilst waiting to ride. Let me know your number and I’ll see if I got you.

The start of the ‘defect’ on last year’s segement is about 40 miles in, and accurately follows roads for the whole route.
Re the fast guy:
Slowing down and shouting “rider up”, “on your left/right please” should be sufficient notice and consideration for all. If you encounter the bell end again then you could always tell him to have another attempt? 😉
m1keaFree MemberSpookily enough I’ve just raised a support ticket with Strava on this topic.
Last year I did the BHF L2B night ride and got the KOM for the whole 60 mile ride.
Odd thing on that is that the created segment at one point is actually nearly two miles off the correct route (which I did) yet I was still included. ❓
On this year’s ride I had a tiny GPS blip but I haven’t even been included in either last year’s segment or the two that have been created for this year.
I’ve had recent rides where the GPS track has been all over the place and whilst that’s annoying, the error is too much to correct. However it’s the inconsistency on these BHF rides that I’d like sorting out.
(Strava / Garmin traces available upon request)
m1keaFree MemberI got some fresh pads for my Met Stradivarius from Bike24.de. Couldn’t find any UK stockists
m1keaFree MemberPeterPoddy – Member
Genius. I wish I could come up with something like that.
Doing the rounds about 10 years ago (now youtubed)m1keaFree MemberI have to say FOS has got too popular and commercial now. 🙁
We went yesterday (10th time) in a vague hope it’d be a bit quieter. Unfortunately it wasn’t…….
Tip for avoiding the traffic? Get there early! It also helps to know the back country lanes if you want a lovely sunny scenic drive back.
m1keaFree Membercyclistm
1*10 is 9 too many for the big dog. bobsproket and I rode singlespeed last year and it was spot on for the course. I suspect gears may have been a little quicker though. Not riding it this year though, due to a variety of boring reasons.
You riding?
This singlespeed/fixie malarky looks like too much effort/potential to go horribly wrong for me!
Highly unlikely I’ll be riding, unless someone gets desperate and needs a rider to fill a team slot.

Thanks M1kea and Atlas
Never experienced any of the symptoms you describe despite using SPDs for 20+ years. On the road bike with carbon, plastic and mtb soles. haven’t used SPDs on an mtb for probably 15yrs but never experienced it when I did..
Can’t really see how it’s caused by duration of the ride? badly fitting shoes, poor cleat set-up or poor pedalling technique sound more likely culprits, no?
I have monkey feet (v broad and high insteps) so take shoe fit seriously. All my shoes have conformable moulded insoles and I currently have, Carnac, Northwave, Sidi and Spesh shoes.
Two factors I am confident with: 1) MTBing involves a lot of stop start so you get to flex the feet more. 2) I only tend to get this problem when it’s hot.
Back OT, road cleats do wear quite quickly if you do any walking on them. – Another factor to consider?
m1keaFree MemberPersona
Hot spots are painful pressure points, typically on the ball of the foot.
Can be caused by a variety of things, flexing soles, tight toe box etc.
Last month I spent 9 hours in the saddle riding the Evans King of the Downs sportive without any issues. A couple of weeks later I got foot cramps two hours in on a flatish ride. Weird.
