Connects are ok, we use some in work but from what info I could get off the net can be problematic.
Cheers
Any obvious gotchas as I don’t want to have to faf about with maintenance (too much).
m1keaFree MemberDid much of your route in reverse last week and used the M6 toll for the first time; #absolute #nobrainer. As above, timing is key
m1keaFree MemberBrought a 54 plate diesel pre DPF hatch back in 09 and just gone through 97K miles.
Had an issue with coked up injectors a couple of years ago but the occasional tank of premium and some enthusiastic 3rd gear for 1/2 mile have kept that at bay.
Stupidly big boot with the rear seats down (2 bikes with wheels attached).
Just had a 65 plate diesel estate for 2 weeks and put 2.2K miles on it literally driving the length and breadth of the country. An obviously newer and tighter car to drive with a much better cabin though the rear visibility was worse, especially with the privacy glass.
Wasn’t that impressed with the seat (shape) comfort compared to mine but haven’t driven the ‘middle’ edition to compare.
m1keaFree MemberA belated “nice one” from me and good to hear it went well. 8)
However who’s that ginger fella?

Oooh, i can’t see any problems with meeting up with some strange fellas off internet in spandex in Brighton to go to Clapham Common…. so i may well be interested. (runs off to drop weight from Fargo to keep up!)
Well this was the day after Pride and we did get accosted by a couple of still very drunk fellas by Palace Pier
m1keaFree MemberI have to date, ridden a whole 30 miles this year so will very likely have to decline.
Tis a good laugh with plenty of ups and downs, geographically and otherwise. If folk can only do one leg, I’d say choose the second half cos it’s mostly off road.
Full monty route – https://www.strava.com/activities/360003578
And I did the 2nd half again the following week – https://www.strava.com/activities/364073536

but you do say what type of photography you want the FF for?Well yeah, mostly product in-situ at shops and restaurants so weight is not the biggest factor. But it is helpful that it doesn’t way too much, my wife isn’t all muscle!
Right so based on that, a decent support and light enhancers should be first. A (decent) tripod is a total no brainer photographic item imo. If you haven’t got any flash equipment then that’s where you can buy some shiny. I’d personally start with some small reflectors.

That was a nasty one and good to read no one was seriously injured. I can see both sides of the argument on what to do next and at the least they should investigate options to lessen the risk of another car going in to the tunnel
m1keaFree MemberDitto above comments.
Difficult to tell from the photos but the door stops look quite wide? If they’re over 35mm wide it may pay to use thinner ones and get some more frame to play with.
Might also be worth checking where the hinges are. The classic rule of thumb is 6″ down from the door jamb to the top of the top hinge and 9″ up to the bottom of the bottom hinge.*
If you’ve got to move the hinges, you may as well get them in the right place.
* = a point that may garner some debate
m1keaFree MemberSome idle musings for you and apols in advance for the TL;DRness
Having got a 5D3 back in 2012 it completely replaced my 1D2N and 7D for sports work, mainly down to excellent high ISO performance and AF (compared to the older bodies).
It’s getting quite tired now so I got a 7D2 late last year and it’s been excellent. Great high ISO performance, AF that works and the latest feature sets (Exp Comp in manual being one).
Popped another 10300 frames on it today at a running event, probably bringing this month’s total up to 35 – 40,000 actuations. The 5D3 did remote shooting so only about 4000 today.
Despite my misgivings over the original 7D, I’ve been very pleased with the IQ and even use for arty farty pics!
I’m not sure why I got a 6D in 2013. I certainly didn’t need to but it does get used a fair amount and is the body that goes on the pano pole for high level stuff. :-)
Having a hired a A7R mk1 last year, I would have had no hesitation ditching the 6D as surplus to requirements because the Sony IQ and DR plissed over the Canons (5D3 as well).
Yes mirrorless bodies are smaller but by the time you factored in lens adapters, it wasn’t as clear cut, as can bee seen in the pics above.
I’m sure the A7R2 is a massive step up, with usable AF and a quiet shutter but they’re but not a cheap option.
If the question was 6D or A7R, I’d personally say go Sony. YMWV

Have a friend who runs a camera ship so will see if he can loan us a full frame for a while as a test run.
Does he work for the security services? :P
Please check beforehand as I suspect the 10-22 and 17-85 won’t fit a FF body (cropped sensor lenses often have deeper rear lens element which could foul the mirror, which wouldn’t be funny)
m1keaFree MemberBroadly speaking I would say yes but then I already have three full frame DSLR bodies.
That said, a FF body isn’t going to magically improve your pictures overnight and there are lots of other shiny you could spend your money on (lenses and tripods spring to mind first).
I’d instead look at what you want to learn/achieve, what tools you already have and then investigate courses and membership relevant to what you want(to do).
Of course if you do have a hole burning in your wallet and need  new toyz we’d need a better idea of what subjects interest you; – a wide angle lens for landscape work isn’t going to be much cop if you’re interested in portraits or wildlife!
m1keaFree Membervery good
Of course I trust you’ll be cropping the image again to remove the visible background cropping?

That’s it at the moment, although in the last 6 months I’ve seen The Sisters Of Mercy, New Model Army, Killing Joke, The Cult.
Blimey, didn’t realise this lot were still doing the rounds. IIRC last time I saw the Cult was on the Sonic Temple tour.
Hopefully seeing AC/DC in June if Mr Johnson is allowed to perform

No decent camera you say? How about a trip to B&H cameras?
Not had the pleasure of visiting the store but I’m sure you could kill a couple of hours there!

Recruitment consultant here, 20 years for my sins.
The only time I’ve ever been snotty with a candidate is when they’ve agreed to take a job, had all the information sent to them, start time and date agreed, referencing done, interviewing done etc etc then they disappear off the face of the planet. Stop answering calls and emails and don’t turn up for the job. Its the most infuriating thing, and the consultant has to pick up the pieces with the client and start the lengthy and expensive process again (if the client gives them a second chance that is) It happens more than you’d believe. When this happens most of the people just get a better offer and don’t see the need to formally withdraw from the job they’ve already accepted.
I’m currently in the unfortunate position of being ‘between jobs’ I’ve had a few interviews and most of those agencies have been good in the initial comms. However when it goes quiet you know nothing more is going to happen and they’ve lost all interest in you.
Yes I know we’re a commodity and I’ll be kind in saying recruiters are disingenuous but please, show a smidgen of common courtesy.
Case in point; I had an interview last Friday and have chased 3 times for ANY feedback. Nadda……

Transco did that when we had our (new) supply connected and they got it stuck for a couple of days, necessitating closing half our road down whilst they dug it out   .
We still have the old termination valve by our back door, which they didn’t want to touch back in 99. I’m 95% sure this is what this extra pipe goes to.m1keaFree MemberCheers chaps
redthunder
Those 70’s shots jogged a memory of riding on someone’s toboggan one snowy winter. It had runners made out of yellow piping and we had to bail just before hitting a tree at what seemed like 100mph :D
Also found our water incomer in the same dig and both are going to be reburied (and marked) once I’ve run ducting for my shed power
m1keaFree MemberWe had some decorators at work a while ago and they spray plastered all the communal areas and 4 storey stair well. No idea on cost but it was quick and they’d painted everything within the week as well.
Worth a look?

Not where I live, just up visiting a relative if it makes you feel any better
Ahh fair dos 8)
Went to Finland at the end of Jan and whilst I didn’t think we’d get Aurora, we didn’t have any clear skies at all :(
m1keaFree MemberI can see the attraction of RCBOS, well at least with my limited understanding of such things! However at £25 a lump they certainly aren’t cheap and we presently have 10 MCBs!
Replacement house CU quotes are currently between £380 and £500
Rich, thanks for the offer but we’re in Sussex so probably not that convenient for you :-)
m1keaFree MemberI already stalk GeeTee on Flickr but Kit C will be added to the list because of this – https://flic.kr/p/DZyhC9 (you “no light pollution ere mate” b’stard!)

We currently have an earth rod at the house, and the supply is fed by overhead cables. This latest sparks suggested ditching that rod and RCBOing the house (plus some other stuff I didn’t fully take in), using 2 core SWA to the shed and adding a separate earth there.
Two others were proposing 3 core SWA and the 1st guy just said yeah it’ll be about £400 with no technical explanation! :|
Current house CU doesn’t have any fault isolation and we have had the very odd occasion when a bulb goes it’s taken everything with it. We’re mulling over a loft conversion which will require at the very minimum, mains powered smoke detectors, so I’m minded to update and expand what we’ve got.
m1keaFree MemberAnother sparks and yet another interpretation!
Have also been asking about seperately upgrading the house CU and this one said ditch the current MCBs + 1 RCD switch unit and RCBO the lot.
Would RCBOs be a bit overkill for a typical domestic install or is this the ultimate way of doing things?
m1keaFree MemberArundel’s cathedral is Catholic (I’m giving njee another excuse for not realising it existed )
A different place to stay could be Laughton Place – http://www.landmarktrust.org.uk/search-and-book/properties/laughton-place-8822
Very close to Lewes, Glyndebourne (if you fancy opera) and not far from Eastbourne. Sheffield Park gardens would be about a 30 min drive
m1keaFree MemberNickjb
I’ve measured 210v at the extension reel I’ve been using and that’s coped with running everything I’m likely to want connected.
We have spare capacity on the house CU and tron, good point about refreshing everything for any additional work. Chap seemed conscientious and I guess wants to do things ‘properly’
Footflaps
Cheers for the info. Haven’t fired up PP in yonks so will have a nosey
m1keaFree Member@ Nickjb
I’ve been grazing some sparks forums and yes I’ve seen some of the comments!
According to that one sparks, 6mm is apparently marginal because of the voltage drop –
…..but BS7671:2008(2015) Amendment 3 states that no circuit can be designed with more than 3% drop. (3% 230v = 6.9v. Therefore minimum voltage = 223.1v
Footflaps
Nice job there and bigger than what I will be running. I’m not keen on fence mounting though I’ve also got 8M of stepped patio with mains water and a foul drain in them to contend with.
(Catenary poles aren’t an option either)
BTW what prog did you use for your diagrams? Visio doesn’t seem to have any decent symbols?
m1keaFree MemberI’ve used LR since it was Pixmantec’s RawShooter Pro. I brought a standalone upgrade from 4.4 to 6 when it became clear that Adobe were bending people over a log with subscription lock ins and I wanted up to date raw support. I totally agree with Binnrs summation of Adobe’s business model.
However I have very recently brought DXO’s OpticPro 10. It does not have any of the cataloging features of LR but limited playing has shown it to be very good with noise management.
Worth a look IMO

m1keaFree MemberBeen v impressed with the Petzl Tikka RXP. Small, integrate, light and the sensor seems to work very well. Haven’t run with it so can’t comment on that side of things.
m1keaFree MemberHaven’t read all the replies but my winter bike has Ambrosio Excellence rims on it. Must be coming 10 years old now so probably due a renewal but they’ve been faultless.
m1keaFree MemberJust to take this slightly off topic, our Victorian 2 up 2 down semi d used to have sashes. They were all completely replaced with different style upvc windows some point 18+ years ago and it would nice to get sash replacements.
Lounge is a bay window. Any ideas on what this would cost?
m1keaFree MemberDespite owning 5 DLSRs, I’ve never used a bridge camera. Echoing BillMC’s comments, I’d probably lean towards a high end compact.
They’re going to be smaller and more pocketable than a bridge. I’ve been using a borrowed RX100iii and the image quality is excellent.
Possibly a bit geeky and certainly contains some expensive gear but http://www.wexphotographic.com/blog/best-compact-camera-for-enthusiasts-which-should-you-buy is a good read
m1keaFree MemberMy N+1 Arkose came with 50:34 – 11 spd 11-32 but I’d taken it down to 46:34.
34 – 32 is not quite low enough for miserable long (SDW) climbs but the range has worked on everything else so far.
Bike gets used for light off road routes so has 32c or bigger tyres on it. – I have road bikes for road riding
m1keaFree MemberI have:
Race 2008 vintage?
Enduro 2010 vintage?
Joystick 2012
Diablo 2013
6 Pack (mk3?)
2 X redeyes
Flash / Flare 2013
Trace / TraceR 2015The Flash / Flare haven’t been totally reliable but they’re known for that. Trace(R)’s have been good so far.
6 Pack is offensively bright and is my light of choice if I need 5 hours+ of lighting.
Not needed to pay Exposure a visit for a while but their customer service has always been excellent in the past.

Places I have never been that I would seriously like to visit:
3. Jordan/Lebanon
Spent 2 weeks in Jordan last Sept. Better than expected though TBH a week would be long enough to cover the main sites.
Petra far exceeded my expectations as there’s so much more than the Treasury. A night or two in Wadi Rum is a must as the scenery, sky and isolation is fab.
The dead sea is pretty meh  to be honest. Very few access points on the Jordan side and the ‘sea’ shore is bland.
Some good historical sites (Jerash) but don’t hold your breath looking for old Islamic buildings / history as there isn’t much.
m1keaFree MemberMy usual wet weather wagon – Enigma Etape, or if I get some full guards sorted, my newish Arkose.
If it’s dry then the Felt 2nd best CF bike.
