I’ve got the same engine in out Golf GTi, and SEAT Altea. On a good run, 36mpg but work & back for 12 miles on the motorway is 30/32 depending on traffic.

You have to work hard to get it embarrassingly low on the road though

I used to have a Genesis Day One that fulfilled these needs

It came with 42x18T, which was fine for a decent pedally top end but at my ‘comfortable’ rpm it was happy to run along at 18mph or so… I guess 80rpm for that?

Was more than happy with that off road as well, some hills were a slog but you can get out of the saddle for those.

If you think she’ll be miffed at not getting the TT onto the drive tonight, imagine how ratty she’ll be with the gigawatt generator going all night outside your bedroom window
