We were stood precisely there two years previously, for the Coventry/Leeds SF and the Sheff W/Coventry QF.
We were 17 then and 19 when the accident happened.

Those 1999 events really hit home more than anything else up to that point in my life I reckon.

That is my local hospital. It has served me and mine very well.
(Generally) The staff are absolutely exemplarary.

The ‘patients’ shown represented a shameful state of affairs… but nothing not already documented to death.

I think the blonde lady employee spoke eloquently and with great passion and sense – though she has clearly become exasperated.

On one hand, made me quite depressed.
On the other, I’m reminded of just how selfless people can be.

I did one on my MTB (with slicks) and my second on a cheap (but new) road bike.

Problem first time was the gearing in the end. I was spinning the MTB out.
Apart from that it would have been great (It was pretty old skool Klein so hence lovely and stiff and stretched out).

I felt a whole lot less comfortable on the road bike (A Giant OCR) even after a few month use.

Personally, I would have loved a flat bar road bike – but there weren’t many around at the time.. how things change.

    Moral?
Depends on how seriously you want to take it, really.

    [disclaimer]I know nothing [/disclaimer]

..but your post did ring a (small) bell.
A mate of mine had something that, from my vague, disinterested, half-listens, may or may not have been sciatica.

    First Google hit: http://www.drfoot.co.uk/Hamstring.htm

I’m sure someone who knows what they’re talking about will be along soon.

Not seen the news ref 3 day weeks and downtime across the whole industry?

You could get one out of a dusty old airfield within a week I would expect but a special is likely to take longer than usual, I’m guessing.

RM start delivering my mail to me, as opposed to my neighbour, and stop littering my street with plastic bands … and we’ll see what we can do, eh?

    oh yeah: 😉

    Correction:
er… I just checked and reminded myself of something I’ve obviously blocked-out: It took us 14h 10mins (not 12 as previously dreamt).
..and 10 hrs is too optimistic this time… more like 11h30m.

The ‘winner’ came in at 6h 07mins. Nutter.

We’re only a couple of episodes from the end of series one on DVD and now well and truly drawn in. It is great TV. Really the only TV we watch at the mo.

Read a quite interesting article over the weekend:

Now rapidly vacating hard-drive space from our old PVR (from before they were called PVRs) before the telly ‘catches us up’.

Doing this again on Sunday: http://www.acoventryway.org.uk/
    Almost exactly 40 miles.

Did it last September in dry weather, but just after all the bad weather… In places it was knee deep. It took us over 12 hours*
    I’m not being macho.
My point is: I couldn’t. Wouldn’t. Have done it again the next day. I needed two days off work afterwards!

It is in April this year in an attempt to beat the weather. Hmm.
Will keep you posted on Sunday night.
(I’m only doing it again because I carried way too much and was gutted at the conditions underfoot…. aiming for more like 10 hours this time)

*Despite the conditions, the ‘winner’ did it in 6hrs-something!

Take my seven year old out sometimes. Rarely, but sometimes.
Normally just across town for an errand.

Personally, I ride every day and am very aware of the dangers and my own limitations.
Yes. Any accident, in any situation would be dreadful and, avoiding pillion rides would indeed eliminate that particular situation.
But, life is for experiencing, yes?

I did a 40 mile event in torrential rain & mud (ie Probably the equivalent of >40 miles) last year and, only in hindsight mind, had my left boot done up a bit too tight. Old, well broken-in boots.

I suspected shinsplints too, which I’d had before due to “too much too soon” running.
This was different though – noticeably due to the red marks, burning sensation and pins/needles. The pins/needles could even be set off by touching the top of my foot – like they were linked.

It transpired that it is not uncommon and was caused by, effectively, trapping tissue/nerves and starving them of blood/oxygen. In extremis you kill the tissue.
Can’t remember what it is called. Will have a dig back through some old stuff.

It is still not *right*. Though I’m running 50-60 miles/month again, the pins/needles sensation is still there to a lesser extent.

Rest. Rest. Ice (I had to buy bags and submerge my whole lower leg in a bucket. ow! Ow! OWW!). More rest.
    Good luck.

In my case, the boot upper caused much of the trouble.
I’m doing the same event in three weeks actually – and wearing trail shoes this time 🙂

    I did like it.
Then, years ago, I learned to play the guitar to it.
    I got sick of it.

It is now just starting to regain it’s value again.

Been using it for a few months now (following a discussion on here, actually).
Real good but, yes, sometimes quality is a bit ropey.
I suppose the catch is (for me anyway) I’m limited to use here. In the house.
When I own music I can play it in the car, iPod etc.
    ‘Tis the future though.

    Yes. It’s pish.
But better than staring into space when on a phonce conference, for example.
Really informative if you find a newsfeed you like, and it showed up insider info during the TDu and ToC.

It is also interesting to use something like http://www.tweetgrid.com/ where any term can be searched and listed in realtime. (Try your hometown, a news event or a sports match during the game for example)

Let’s get this straight: I don’t live in S-u-A, but do live within 20 mins and visit relatively often.
It’s a nice part of the world. Little in the way of ‘mountain biking’ but pretty rural pretty quickly and lots of bridleways to choose from. Cotswolds not too far either.

Downside. A big downside: Don’t go anywhere near the town during the summer. It is full of tourists. Absolutely, walking in front of your car, full. I hate it.

They’re just fine as long as it wasn’t a Friday afternoon house 😉

There has been some kind of argument that, due to the drought in that year, there is some kind of lasting effect in terms of footings – but I reckon if it’s made it this far and you get a good survey, there’s nothing to worry about. They’re not like Allegros.
