    Just how short are you?

    5'8"

Look. I dropped the saddle considerably for him. OK? 🙂

Never heard of Brian Epstein or Berry Gordy?

    🙂
I most certainly have… and I'd probably throw Peter Grant in the mix too.
You're right – maybe not breaking ground – but I still think there was something, even if it is imperceptible, that McClaren brought to the game though.
All standing on the shoulders of previous 'giants' I suppose..

Never his biggest fan but, blimey, he grabbed his opportunity with both hands and made the most of it.

Not entirely sure he caused certain things that have possibly been attributed to him but he was definitely one for spotting them early.

Like it or not he was a precursor/forerunner to the so-called svengalis we have had ever since.

    RIP

    Ha 🙂
Despite being 40 years and 5 months old this is the first time I've encountered any tangible 'benefit' of being "40+"

ie. I'm now at the bottom of a higher rank as opposed to being at the top of a lower rank.
    Fool!

I've been a Pilot with these guys for a few years now
    http://www.vista.org.uk/

All stokers are Visually Impaired (varying degrees, right through to 'Blind').
It's excellent fun and I chuckled reading most of the tips above since we've fallen-foul of most of them at some point or another.

I'd say that, with a Sighted/V.I combo though, some of the rules are 'heightened' 🙂
Also, for the vast majority of the VIs, it's their only exercise and/or sensation of speed…

We've done no real offroad but we've been working on offering the option for those who are interested.

(PS. We're always on the look out for Pilots – and stokers, for that matter – if anyone's interested)

Moses: You're right. Wrong choice of words.
I did find the whole thing a little unprofessional though….

(Only giving two options (Blue or Red) for a response, for example, rather than leaving open … however academic that third [or fourth or fifth] option may be 🙂 )

    haha..like a kipper!

I was phone MORI-polled the other night… even the pollster sounded disinterested.

    I'll vote alright. It's our duty… but, blimey, I can't say I've ever been disinterested more 🙁

I'd get a bit more practised first if I were you… but here's some simple science:

No visa required for UK passport holders… under the Visa waiver programe

True.. just do bear in mind that this is not wholly applicable even if you've ever been arrested, let alone charged.
    Just saying, that's all. 🙂

    1. Not bribery. Incentive.

    2. What will it mean?
    More 'straight-to-bin' mail?
Later post? Unlikely to be later through my letterbox than I get home anyway.

Genuinely hope all is well for you personally, but – as a consumer? No big shakes.

    Pet subject of mine..
Bloomin' sanctimonious, smug, condescending, self righteous Nicky Campbell always succeeded in triggering my irrational hatred button I'm afraid.

    But then there's…
Jo Whiley for her sucking up to the slebs.
Edith Bowman and her whiny "chooon" voice.
    Colin Murray (see Nicky's virtues)
    Simon Mayo… ditto.

    In fact….This is quite cathartic.
I'm realising it's the smug ones I'm not, er, keen on.

(On the other hand: Lauren Laverne, even Chris Evans and, yes, Westwooood can all apparently have a giggle at themselves)

R4, local 'pirate', 6 music and iPod all the way these days for me.

    Each to their own, eh?

    🙂 Nice!
Chap at work just collected his 10MY Rocket III this week. Rode it in on the 1st.
It's a beaut. Going to take some cleaning though.

I've ridden virtually every day for the past 2 years and only got heated grips a month ago. Can guarantee I'll never live without them again now. Cushty!

Stumbled across this on telly just as it started. Result!
It's turning into a proper race. Excellent stuff.

Play it by ear, but, on balance, I'd say those on the way UP to give way as:
    (i) The delay will be shorter, (ii) They can have a breather 😉 , (iii) Downhills are earned

Incidentally, this completely contradicts the rules of the road – where those going DOWN should usually give way (EDIT: for the reason given by TJ)

Joe, Brumsgrove, TJ: Thanks for the prompt replies.

    JoeBones: YGM

TJ: Thanks, but it is well and truly cheddared.

Bit of an extract from my mail to Joe:
    "…
Didn't go to great lengths in my post but, basically, I've never seen a crossthread like it.
I can only think that, in my haste to go for my first 200 metre spin on my new build (on Christmas Eve), I only finger tightened my surrogate (want-to-ride-it-now) pedals.
Since then I have gone no further than 3 miles – each time in normal shoes/boots (ie Not cleated) – as I was just popping to the shop to get brakes bled etc.
Today, within two minutes of my first proper cleated ride (on this bike) I noticed that they were floating strangely.
On inspection, and though inserted 90% of the usable thread, it was clearly on the p*ss.

I can only think that, during my civvy-shoed rides I'd managed to unthread the finger tightened pedals slightly and then, under load, managed to jump a thread before tightening them back up while SPD-pedalling.

The female thread appears more or less reamed.
    …."

Methanol and Ethanol is where it's at… just be careful – have the same type HSE restrictions as petrol.
IPA slushes up too early but is as some of the commercially available washes so not overly detrimental to anything else.

Vodka is cheaper than screenwash in Russia and is, therefore, a viable alternative. That does perish the rubbery bits in the system though.

16" and 5'8" here (but the legs of someone 5'5", I reckon)

Only just finished (See http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/my-first-from-scratch-build-new-bike-content ) so not ridden in anger yet.
Felt right in terms of size though.

    Hello Chris..
Told you it wouldn't wait till after Christmas 😉
Reckon I'll see you shortly … brakes could do with a bit of bleeding.
All OK apart from that though.

    Buzz..
Does it make me a little less of a geek that I had to Google that? 😉

    Tails:
I'm no tailor (Suits you sir!), and I've a had a few glasses of red… So the measure was done as furtively as possible using a Stanley tape measure in an vain attempt to not look like I was fiddling with myself.

    I think I'm about 30" inside leg??

    Tails:
Thanks. Nothing revolutionary, I know, but, you're right… with the Carbon forks the Red/Black turned out OK.

It's a 16" and seems just about cock-on for me.
(I have the legs of an elf)
