Oh now… im a bike screed here… In the spare bedroom and it has NOTHING in it apart from a computer, a cupboard with clothes, my grandma's thimbles ( at least my thumbs would be ok…), a hi-fi and a Vase with some flowers… SO i'd have to rely on the vase, and maybe the computer screen for shock tactics. Hopefully i would then be able to get to the room next door, where i have screwdrivers and dumbell bars ( good bet i think). Then fight my way to the back door, into the shed, grab the gardening fork, and run for the woods…

i really dont get this.. It always baffles me when i see someone smoking a cigarette at a bike race.

Its a bit like going on a hard bike ride, then getting back to the car and stuffing your face with a KFC… ( which i have done once or twice. 🙁 , but it is certainly not a habit)…

Ha, some amusing insults on here… To be honest, i just ignore it most of the time, or if not, i cant catch the car up. One time though, i got cut up by a white pick up, to which i shouted something after them,( cant remember what…) the driver then slowed down, and said what did you call me? Once again cant remember xactly what i shouted back, but rode past. next thing i know, he's cut me up, forced me to stop and jumped out with a crowbar in his hand. I've never pedalled as quickly.

I head of someone once pouring their water over a driver in a convertible… And another one about some guy reaching in, turning off the engine and chucking the keys into a field….

For the person who asked about what the original poster rides, he has a gary fisher cake with revel;ations and other upgrades, a kinesis xc 120, with revs, hope pro3 wheels, just bought a new thomspn post, hope seatclamp, time pedals etc, a custom made steel road bike, and a gt avalanche built as a singlespeed (blasphemy).

He was probably talking about me and my addiction to buying new bike parts i really cant afford, then selling them 6 months later.

i have a mate who has one… He has tried it with coil pikes, and with manitou minutes. And has come to the conclusion that he needs something inbeetween like air pikes or vanillas, as the minutes made the head angle too steep, but were very light so quick on the singletrack and climbs. The pikes are very confidence inspiring, but heavy, and make the bike feel a bit sluggish on pedally stuff in comparison.

He tried it with my pair of fox talas and came to the conclusion ( i believe) that they would be ideal.

Oh, and the top tubes are quite long, so you probably wont want a particularly long stem.
    Hope that helps.

    hi,

just thought i'd say, i have a marin quake frame, and marzochi 66 forks, that i would sell for 450, including a seatpost, headset, and MRP chain device… It has just had the shock serviced… These are great little bikes, have a search for reviews… They are all positive.

It is sort of inbetween a dh bike, and an sx trail, as in more stable and confidence inspiring on the big steep stuff than the sx, but not as point and go as a dh bike.

Very good bikes, even if mine didnt interest you…

All the trek fuel ex's came with custom forks, with just 130mm travel. I would presume that is what you have…

As most people seem to be saying, they are good forks. I never noticed any flex really, but then i do only weigh 70 kilo's… They arent really forks for aggressive riding, they can take a bit of abuse, but definitely prefer to be ridden smoothly. Mine were sid teams.

A mate has one and uses a 2.3 conti, fitted to a dt swiss 4. something rim…

FOr what it's worth, he loves it, and ive had a ride on it… Really good fun bike. His is built with revs, hope pro 3 wheels, etc, so preety light, and its fast as through the singletrack…

Overall, i would defiitely buy one. Ive ridden alot of xc hardtails, and this is one of the best as far as i'm concerned.

kickboxing or similar… they wont make you spar against someone bigger or more experienced than you… , It is good fun if they do a good warm up etc, hard work.

id be amazed if it is the switch… they just tend to stop working… unless they are dimmers. I forgot to say, if you check transformers etc, make sure you turn the mcb off ( at the fuseboard). I sadly do this for a living, and am actually on call now..

or yeah, if you can survive tonight, call the landlord and tell him to send an electrician round. It may even be a rodent or something has chewed a wire (happens alot).

right, try turning the fuse on at the fuseboard. If it wont turn on , then go upstairs, and operate the switch you normally use for
turning on the lights. Then try the fuseboards again. It will hopefully turn on. It wont have been the bulbs causing it to trip repeatedly…

The cause is most like ly something to do with a transformer… Either just faulty, or often the bulbs melt the plastc wires, (they get very hot), causing a short circuit… So your options are to look at the transformers, and if one is burnt disconnect it. If not then it gets a bit more tricky. you will have to disconnect them all until it goes back on (hopefully. Oh and look at the connections as well.

I think i'm the only person here who would go for the foxes… After riding and owning various 130mm forks – marzochi, rockshox, manitou, i still think that fox forks outperform them all.

how many frames with a slack head angle, decent strenght and weight, which are big enough to be used for xc that are designed for 80 or 100 mm forks?

Plus 130mm takes the sting out of the bumps just that bit better…

After trying to ride up this, and failing, it has now become an ambition of mine to ride it. I will defeat this… Ive only had one attempt so far…

i didnt find it too bad at all, there was 2 corners at the top, and a 2 or 3 other bits i didnt manage… But it is a pain to get there, and back.

Just after i'd started riding spds, i went to catch a train to go riding… I was going along the platform, adjusting my gears, came to a stop , and i'm sure you can guess what happened next. And this was at 9.30 on a weekday morning, so the platform opposite was packed. 🙁

How about some of the dh tracks out there? are we talking about the track you need the biggest balls, or the best handling skills for?

i used some for a week in the alps wheni forgot my dianese :-(.

It was a bit too small for me, so not the most comfortable, but i had a few hard crashes, and it did everything i would have expected. It seemed to offer as good pretection as the dianese, but just wasnt as comfortabl e due to the size…

I dont know if it is possible, but i agree with samuri. Something that often irritates me is, i try to spend my money at a shop, only to be told 'you'll have to wait a week for that to come in', and so i just go and buy said item on chain reaction the next day…

Is there a way to make that quicker? Oh, and staff who

    a) know what they are talking about
b)DOnt try to sell me a whole now wheel just because my free hub has failed ( i wont be using that shop agian)

just went on a 2 hour blast on my planet x again… It shouldnt be so much fun… I can see the other bikes not getting used much for a while…

Well, i recently built up an old Planet X Jackflash, with the intention to solely use it for jumps etc. But its proven to be more adaptable than that… Yesterday i took it on a 3 hour xc ride… I'd say if it has a longish top tube, and not too slack head angle you will be ok. My only problems, are the seat post is too short for proper seated pedalling, and it surrently weighs about 32 pounds… Oh an i only have a 38 tooth ring at the front. I wouldnt want to use it somewhere like the peaks, for an all day rides, but for a blast in the woods, its ok.

It was hard to climb on, fun on anything downhill, and OK on inbetewwn stuff.

    So yeah, you can.

you could try something like a lantern, with a low wattage bulb, running of a time clock. That could stay on all night, then have alight with a sensor, as a backup… Go for a halogon for security purposes… Oh, and personally i think its a good idea to have a separate PIR to the light fitting…

why not go for the XT brakes? They are brilliant, tons of power, loads of modulation, reliable, and definitely wont have any problems witht the shifters. I cant comment on what they are like compared to the slx though.

haha, golden wonder… that is brilliant, and so wrong all at once. I'm guilty of most of thesae things…

I dont even own a car, cause i spend too much money on bikes.

When you nearly crash your wok van, cause you were distracted by looking at a potential riding spot (street riding)…

I have 2 sets of sunlines ( v1 and v2's. Been good so far… As in they are comfortable, and havent broken. The shap is similar to eastons, which i like, but i definitely appreciate the extra width… Would reccomend them.

I looked at nukeproofs, but decided against them after seeing someone bend a pair up aston hill. Probably would have happened to any bars though.

Well, i went up, and had a bit of a play on the dirt jumps… I'm really pleased, as i managed to get through the 1st 2 of the medium set… (1st time dirt jumping really.

IS it just me though, or are some of the younger kids who go up there really annoying? Not just because they are much better than me at dirt jumping> they were just really unfriendly, and rude… I felt like a grandad, and i'm only 22…

So its worth going up on the xc bikes sometime? I only live in hemel, so its about a 40 minute drive… Will we find good shizzle to rizzle?
