Lots of good bike trips this year. Harris at Easter was pretty amazing though.

I’ve just got a new Dell laptop at work. It’s mostly fine but the keyboard is horrid. It

just doesn’t feel right. Feels as though it needs a good squirt of GT85 or something.

Since my job involves lots of typing it’s a bit of a struggle tbh.

Singular Swift. 29er. Looks great, fast, lovely springy feel, and equally fun to ride round Thetford Forest or the Yorkshire Dales. I’ve used mine in a couple of enduros (K100, D2D) and it’s been just fine.

Haven’t tried it round the Dark Peak(*) but I think it would be brilliant.

    (*) Hmmmm. <Checks calendar….>

the general reply seemed to be based around a concensus that this forum contains a bunch of bloody miserable buggers.

Doesn’t exercising release endorphins or some such?

Is everyone just getting withdrawal symptoms from not having been out on a bike ride and getting tetchy and grumpy?

Hi this was a law introduced by Labour called “open access”

I was really thinking a bit further back than then. Kinder Trespass was in 1932 – and we all got the right to ramble on Kinder Scout thanks to some people walking where they shouldn’t have been.

So doesn’t that make it somewhat hypocritical of ramblers to complain about cyclists on footpaths (if they’re not doing any harm or being dangerous)?

To be fair, 99% of the people I meet are perfectly civil.

Well for a start off moron the word FOOTPATH <snip> a right of way.

How do ramblers now have the right to ramble across places like Kinder Scout?

Have they always had that right, since time immemorial, or is perhaps just a recently acquired one?

There are grumpy people in the world. They like to prove that they are superior. Unlike normal people who just go on internet forums and slag each other off, some of these grumps mix rambling and grumbling.

    It’s probably a genetic thing.

When I was a newbie I bought a FS. It was OK… but I was much happier once I’d upgraded the frame to a hardtail (On-One 456).

    More to go wrong, IME.

@BikePawl – I think it depends on how much money the treasury gets from Scotland in relation to the rest of the country.

Imagine if the UK’s only income was from selling haggis. 100% of UK government spending would be from Scotland, but only 10% would go back in services.

So, my eldest son is now serious wondering about going to a french university to do engineering.

Fees are much lower and we would at least be able to pay for it on our terms rather than being tied into a deal set by the treasury (possibly?).

His french is reasonable (he’s doing ‘A’ level) and this is apparently one of the top french unis.

    Good idea? Or bad?

I guess this sort of sums up the LD’s position:

Moral lesson: don’t make irresponsible promises in opposition. You might just find yourselves in power, and then where will you be? Faced with a lot of angry supporters who actually thought that you meant what you said.

How well do you actually know her? Do you work in a defence related industry?

Maybe the reason she only wants a few people is to avoid having her true identity revealed.

I’ve just taken a Maxxis Crossmark (2.1″) off my Arch rims after about a thousand tubeless miles. Just too floppy now, and has started burping (during a race 🙂

But until then I was very happy with it – went up with just a track pump and soapy water when it was younger, and worked well in both dry and muddy conditions (29er, rear).

Maxxis Ardent worked well on the front until the weather got too gloopy, and I’ve now got Bonty Mud-x up front, and 29-3 at the back. Pumping like a loon is enough to get them on – not had to use CO2. The Bontrager’s are quite tight fitting though – you do need to _want_ to get them on.

    Hearsay?

    What a load of rubbish.

John knew him personally, and wrote down his experiences. As did Luke. And Matthew, Oh, and Mark.

The idea that there’s no evidence for the existence of Jesus is risible.

In any event, there’s more sense in just one verse of the Bible than in a thousand posts on this crappy forum.

There’s no snow here in Cambridgeshire. I’ve got nothing to feel smug about and I’m feeling very left out.

I haven’t actually got a 4×4 or anysuch, but that’s not the point. I’d like to be able to have the chance at least.

I think I’m going to cry if I carry on seeing posts about snow ;-(

I could never be bothered to do the post-op test. The possibility of having another kid seemed like less hassle than trailing over to the hospital with a bottle of ejaculate.

Let me see if I’ve understood this properly.

On Monday, Panorama reports that FIFA officials have been taking bribes.

Today, Wikileaks brands Russia a “mafia state” where corruption is rife.

And today, Russia is awarded the next WC by FIFA.

There’s no snow here in Cambridge.

I’ve seen a few photos of snow from “around the country” but they are all quite clearly photo-shopped.

IT IS A CONSPIRACY BY THE MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL-THERMAL-UNDERWEAR COMPLEX!

    BUT I’M NOT FOOLED!

AND YOU LOT CAN JUST QUIT GOING ON AND ON AND ON ABOUT SNOW. i DO NOT BELIEVE YOU.

    Little Englander, from Wikipedia:

Historically, and more accurately, the term indicated an anti-imperialist political stance

    .

The British Empire did a lot of good things, but quite a few fairly grim things (e.g. invention of concentration camps). I don’t want to resurrect it.

So I’m happy to be labeled a Little-Englander.

    TJ – thanks.

Doesn’t sound like there’s anything there to be angry about.

More just really sad for how miserable life is going to be in the Irish Republic 🙁

Can someone provide me with a summary so I don’t have to go back over the previous five pages to work out what I should be angry about?

    Thanks!

    s² = ct² + x²

That looks wrong to me. The units are all wrong.

s² is in metres-squared, whereas ct² is in metre-seconds surely?

Or is it just too early in the morning for my brain to function properly?

So why against the EU union but pro the UK union?

Judge a tree by its fruit.

United Kingdom: first modern state, industrial revolution, empire. the end of thousands of years of internecine warfare, X-factor.

European Union: Jumped the shark with the Euro. They’re all doomed now.

Best thing the Irish can do is hope the Germans leave the Euro and then it’ll devalue and their debts will become a bit more manageable.

A lot of what is reported as tax collected in the south east is in fact UK wide companies with HQs there.

I’ve managed to completely avoid watching this rubbish this year. It’s actually more boring and tedious than the World Cup.

Say what you like about them, but at least FIFA have the decency to only inflict their tiresome celebofest on us once every four years.

3 minutes? Too much to do to wait that long. Tea bag in. Boiling water on. Count slowly to ten. Squeeze out tea bag. Add milk. Usually fine if the water was really boiling. Unless it’s the weekend of course.

EDIT: That’s with those Tetley’s triangular bags. Does it make a difference, or is it all just hype? Who knows.
