I was desperate to give it some but had to fly the drone as well!

At certain points there were. It felt like cheating in a video game, it didn’t make sense the amount of grip i was getting!

I used the Mavic Pro with an ND8 filter, probably should’ve gone ND16 for some of the shots but i was pushed for time and it was seriously cold!

“I know this is a Plus conversation but what are fat bike tyres like in the mud and on peat bogs. There’s a lot of moorland locally that I’d like to explore away from the beaten tracks. This kind of terrain is ok on my drop bar 29er but it might be fun to try on a fat bike”

I tried to run 4.4 Jumbo Jims through the winter and they are dangerous, recently changed to Surly Bud/Lou 4.8s and the grip is off the scale, they roll well too. I’m going back to JJ’s in the spring as they are lightning fast!

I’ve got the bolt, simple to use and what it does it does very well. My riding mate had the Garmin edge 1000 and the Bolt is better in every way, so much so that he has now sold his Edge and bought a Bolt.

    Best bit about it for me is stealing routes off riders on Strava to find new stuff. It’s as simple as;

    Find Route
    Save Route
    Press Sync

Have owned mine for 8 months now, best bike i’ve owned and the only bike i own. I do trails every weekend in the Surrey Hills and go to the pub on it when it’s dry. The funniest thing was doing the BHF London to Brighton on it, literally floated past about 3-400 people from tart to finish, some of them on very light XC bikes who would ride with me for a mile before i left them.

The mistake people make is they ride a fat bike with awful tyres with tubes in them. Tubeless Jumbo Jims on a dry trail is something you’ve got to feel for yourself!

Don’t forget the best part of box hill, the grassy slope! Strava said i got 44mph down it on my fat bike and i don’t think it’s too far out!

Have a look at the Cube Nutrail, I’ve got one and so have a few people I ride with, brilliant bikes and the standard kit is also pretty good.

I just wish they would make it possible to take fat bikes on the uplift!

I’ve got the MT500 Spray Shorts. Have only been on about 5 rides but they are comfortable and seem very well made, got them at a bargain £40 on tredz

XC or trail? A drive down to Reigate Hill should only take you 30 mins and from there you can head west and get to all of the best parts of the Surrey Hills. If you are just looking for trails, another 30 mins and you are at Peaslake or Leith Hill

Just eases the pressure on my right side, takes the edge of the hits

I think for XC rigid would be ok, any trails and it’s bluto or go home!

I’ve had my Nutrail for about 6 months now and i’m still really, really enjoying it, it’s my only bike, lightning fast and lots of fun. If you do purchase, go tubeless instantly.

I can’t believe people run tubes still, I haven’t had a puncture in 3 years

I’m on JJ 4.4 snakeskin, I’ll be going 4.8 when it’s time to change and what others have said, not great in mud but not terrible. I’d say they are good for 9 months of the year for me in the Surrey Hills, the 3 wet months a just change the riding a bit and do more XC.

Have a look at the Cube Ltd, I had one for about 18 months and it ticks all the boxes, the frame is solid and it’s good to build on down the line.

Running 4.4 JJ’s on my Cube throughout the summer they have been awesome and even in the Surrey Hills last weekend I managed my 3rd best time on BKB (2.33) so they’re still going ok, they are far from useless for 6 months of the year.

I own a Diablo MK8 for night trails but find that my Lezyne 450XL is more than enough for normal riding in the dark. It’s about £50

I’ve got the same bike, been tubeless for 6 months at as low as 4psi front and no punctures or problems (event landed on the front wheel over a gap)

Anyway, I have set up bikes tubeless before however I figured with the fat bike I’d take it to my LBS (Nirvana) as for the sake of £50 or so it was done. Don’t forget you’ll need to purchase an Airshot or have a compresser to set the tyre if you chose to do it yourself.

    P.S great bikes

Night riding is brilliant fun. My advice is, if you can only get 1 light then get a helmet light of at least 800 lumens and if you’re going on your own stay off the technical trails and just go on an XC route that you have done before.

if you’re in a group then definitely do the technical trails, the adrenaline shakes at the bottom of the hill are lovely

I have a trail ready fat bike (ht) and it is ridiculously fun, it’s also great for XC

Sell the garmin and get a wahoo elemnt. This is how simple it is to create a route.

    1. Log in to strava (other route builders work too)

    2. Create a route

    3. Go to routes on the elemnt, done.

    The simplicity is wonderful

Compared to say a 2.4 Maxxis in 60a maybe, but to a proper XC tyre they are different worlds, let alone a gravel type tyre.

Sure, my bike before this was a XC 29er so i can compare both and flat out cross country the fat bike is only a tiny bit slower in most situations. I’m not here to go on about Fat Bikes, just sharing my experience, you should see the roadies faces when i overtake them downhill at 35-40mph :)

Having full UK maps on my stem (instead of using viewranger on phone) has made a massive positive change to my rides

Same, exploring is 10x better now I’ve got gps and can have my planned route right in front of me!

Wouldn’t want to ride one far on road though, would you?

Yes, I ride on the road all the time with 4.4 jumbo Jims, they have very little RR.

Another elemnt bolt user here. I’ve used it a couple of times off road and it’s great, picks up pathways and bridleways no problem. I’d previously used an edge 1000 which is clunky and confusing, the elemnt is simple and does what it does very well but has less features over the garmin

I have a cube Nutrail fat bike and it really does do it all, it’s my only bike. Yesterday I hit some technical stuff in the Surrey Hills with drops, jumps, roots etc. Couple of weeks before I did a 54 mile XC adventure with some horrible hills but it just absorbs anything you throw at it and it’s all so easy! I really believe that a fat bike (with suspension and tubeless) is the ultimate “do anything” bike.

I’m in the Surrey Hills most weekends with my Fat Bike (Nutrail). I run 4.4 JJ’s tubeless, weigh about 90kg and have 6psi front and 7psi rear, unbelievable grip and great rolling resistance!

This is my only bike, and if I’m honest there is nothing it can’t do.

I too have them on my cube, what pressures do you run? I’m tubeless and scared to go below 8!

I’m fairly new to riding (2 years) and have just ordered a Cube Nutrail. The guy I ride with takes his fat bike wherever we go, over all terrain and in all weather around the Surrey Hills and to be honest he never struggles, point the thing downhill though and I can’t keep up.

Really looking forward to getting mine next week!
