Ambulance staff shouldn’t have taken the bike as they can’t secure them in the Ambulance, in case they are involved in a road accident.
If they did anything with it they would have been wise to note it in their paperwork, the hospital has a copy.
The police would be more likely to look after the bike as the crew would concentrate on getting your mate to hospital.

My Chiropracter recommended brushing my teeth standing on one leg, changing legs every 30 secs, with my eyes shut. Strengthens ankles as well.
Just watch you don’t fall in the bath!

I have had good results with diesel, old boy recommended it, nasty stuff.
Pour it in and leave over night and try the vice again.

The Ambulance Service. As no one takes themselves to hospital, there would be no patients in the hospitals!

The bikes are lashed to “bike hoops” like you get in bike sheds, ropes are provided but usually very greasy.
I usually take my own strap to tie it down. I also use an old Velcro watch strap around the brake lever to limit the amount of movement, works on trains too.
If your not loaded up, pannier etc, you might want to take some form of padding (pipe insulation is light) to protect the paint.

I’m 46 as well, I’d work on the theory that one fall ‘that bad’ in say 25 years means you’ll be 71 before the next one and then you’d probably think about giving up.

I would take the bits into your LBS and they will supply you with the correct sealed BB.

Cut your loses, you could then split the cash 50% to your young un and 50% on a bike.
Either a road bike, purely for you, or a hardtail/rigid that will take a child seat /tow a trailer so you can do mobile babysitting duties (think of it as resistance training).
I only get one weekend off in five so I don’t “waste it” cycling my lads come first but Sunday night when there both in bed I get out with my mate 15-20 miles road or 1,1/2 hours in the woods then a quick pint and home.

Buy a suitable sized BMX remove cranks, chain and rear cog, you then have a good sized balance bike which can have the drive train refitted when he’s ready.

My tips would be just stick your trainers on and get out – that’s the hardest bit.
You can still get out under the cover of darkness if you prefer and finally try and run as slow as possible, you can speed up later.
Oh yeah, the pain you may get over the next couple of days is just your bodies revenge for making it exercise, Ibuprofen straight after can reduce this (ahem, always follow the instructions on the packaging!).

Whenever I’ve been up “Calor” if any trial bikes turn up I’ve just got out of their way. Nothing has ever been said to me.

Just been passed the quarry workings, you can see them from M69 their on the left when heading to Leicester, and the Caravans n most of the mess from the “people of mobile abode” has gone.

Between Potters Marston and Calor Gas at Stones Stanton there are some old quarry workings that are used by a motorcycle trials club, okay for playing in and there are bridlepaths in the area you can link up. Not the Lakes but still time off-road on your bike.
