Circlip idea got me thinking, looked on the SRAM website and that would have worked for 2007/08 mechs. Seems that now (09 onwards) it’s not a replaceable item so the mech is trashed.

Thanks for your answers, much appreciated

Blimey, you are going to be lucky to match that lot.

The good news, you are closer to Wales / Surrey Hills / Swinely. The bad news, South Downs is about it…..

Try looking at Rogate, in Petersfield (DH), Tilgate Forest (Crawley), QE Park in Pompey (XC), Lordswood in Southampton (XC, little bit of DH), UK Bike Park, Shillingstone (DH).

I shouldn’t knock the downs, great rolling singletrack in the summer and slippery muddy slog fest in the winter. It’s got it’s good bits, so worth digging out an OS map and exploring the Bridleways.

Mav12 – every manufacturer will tell you their shorts are the best, or most technolgically advanced – reality is you need to try them out, find some that fit/suit you and buy a couple of pairs.

The new (Assos) stuff doesn’t agree with my tender regions either – come out in a rash

Are they proper Elixir’s – some Specialized bikes annoyingly came with Elixir levers and Juicy calipers

Rubber Queens come up big, (2.2’s – I know) – Not sure I’d ride for XC or Marathon events though – objectives seem a little incompatible?

1st wash, major shrinkage – doesn’t fit, it’s in the bin and chalked up to not reading the label on my part

I’ve ridden solo in the Alps and self supported in terms of accommodation and food – I liked it – as CG says, means I can ride when, how and where I want to…..

Also been on cycling holidays as a solo and met plenty of other solo riders

It’s not Friday (float) – so must be a Thursday Troll huh?

FWIW – as per others, ride what you like and feel good on it

The only reason I keep my bikes in the garage is that they won’t fit in the bedroom

Bike “parked” @ 45 deg angle pointing into the road, leaning over the kerb into the road behind the bike, on double yellow lines – Health & Safety accident waiting to happen…………..oh dear CTC, you haven’t really thought this through have you?

I haven’t – which was the purpose of my question…….

When this happens to me it tends to be becuase I’ve bought the wrong size or the gripper on my shorts isn’t tight enough to hold the leg warmer / knee warmer up.

Sometimes, just yanking them right up helps

If you can afford it, it’s worth getting your own scan done – by the time 4-6 weeks go by waiting for one, the swelling’s likely to be under control and much hard to deal with the injury.

As an alternative, a good physio can work wonders even on this sort of injury and given any budget constraints should be able to set you some exercises & stretches to do on your own. I’ve snapped both crutiate ligaments, neither have been operated on and I’m still riding 12-14 hours a week.

    Worked for me

Try riding somewhere else for a change of scenery, or ride with someone else for a sense of perspective / different lines. You can both learn from each other.

Thumbs up for a skills course as well…..but going on a course and coming back to the same environment may not give you much

With fuel at £1.30+ per gallon, and rising, I can’t quite get my head around driving somewhere for a 2-3 hour ride.

Different if you are going for whole day or weekend to trail centre or something, but that’s few and far between these days

Brakes +1 – if only there was a decent off road pedal with pelty of float – ho hum :?

    lucien

Tried it once, on a cross bike with Speedplay road pedals / cleats. Slightest bit of dirt / muck you just can’t engage the cleat.

Speedplay do an off road pedal tho’?

Just happened to me, £15 tester to O2, caught it just in time with the card cancelled etc. CRC used last weekend also. I’ll be queing with the rest for weekend cash…….

Took 32 hole Flows last year with 2.4 Rubber Queens on, with a 170 mm bike (front and rear) – they were awesome with no issues at all.

Riding wise, I’m taking every opportunity I can to jump off anything and drop off anything…….even dinted the rim a bit and it still staying sealed

    lucien

Dez B – yes, you need one of those but one of these is required also

    Shimano XTR rip off tool

    lucien
    Full Member

BB tool is £35 from CRC, bit cheaper elsewhere on line…..the rest you probably have already

Took mine off the other day, and if I were going to replace the rings, with the tools I’d be looking at the price of a whole XT chainset.

What is it with Shimano XTR………don’t get it really

    lucien
    Full Member

Yes, excellent – in the mud they are pretty awesome, plenty of grip and mud shedding capability.

In the dry, bit draggy but roll pretty OK – better than some general purpose tyres I’ve ridden like Maxis Advantage or Rubber Queens.

Price wise they are competitive and given they are tubeless ready what’s not to like

    lucien
    Full Member

    Oh here we go then

To – “I bought waterproof shorts” – Try riding every day

To – “Get covered in mud and MTFU” – Try riding every day

To – “They look bad” – Try riding every day in the dark

As stated, it’s a bit of no-brainer if you ride regularly………

    IMHO of course

Why go with a company if you are on a budget? Many campsites available in most of the Alps resorts, with stack loads of trails and chairlifts. Plus if you drive, you can visit as many places as you have time for. That would work out cheapest IMHO 8O
