I’m of the understanding that one can purchase replacement elastomers – just not sure from where……

I’ve had mine apart a couple of times, cleaned it, lubed it and the squeeking has stopped. A strange as it seems, it happens on mine (2008 Coilair) when it gets loose and I find that tightening the wingnut to the correct length on the bolt helps to cure the squeek.

Now, chain rattle on the same bike – of you could cure that…….

I’m with you Buzz…..usually I respond to the “Do you know this is a footpath” type comment with a “Yes, silly isn’t it…” and ride on.

When it comes down to it, I’ve never seen a high profile case of trespass for a MTB riding on a footpath……the landowner is the only one that can prosecute for tresspass, it’s a civil matter not criminal so no police – I reckon the more people that ride footpaths the quikcker access rights will be changed.

Good tyre, light and fast rolling. Non armadillo / S-Works version are very (very) thin and I have slashed a couple on sharp rocks. UST versions seal very well and I have had no problems on Stans / Mavic or Spesh rims.

Currently running a 2.2 upfront on an XC bike with a SB8 on the rear and have managed to get some 2.4’s which I fancy running on a bigger bouncing bike.

I wasn’t feeling the love on my SB8’s tonight at Cannock – bit of rain, polished stones……had me creeping my way round

Depends on where you go and what sort of riding…….

Open access to trails / paths etc – same as in Scotland so no need to worry about “can I ride there” type stuff.

If you want maps in 1:50k or 1:25k then Kompass do a big range – Lakes, Alps etc that show more than enough detail to ride.

If it’s road riding then most local Italian clubs ride on Sat / Sun in large family peletons (more in the north than south) – I’ve experienced that they are always happy to let you join in.

If you want bike parks / chairlifts then I only have experience of Italian Alps not Dolomites (but assume it’s the same) and whilst some places are remote most cable cars welcome bikes, some specific resorts have dedicated chair lifts.

Most towns / riding spots have good LBS / Club Networks or are bike specific (Italy Bike Hotels, Finale Liguaria, Lake Garda Bike etc) and do group rides and tours that you can pay a fee or turn up to and ride, often with published itineries.

Other than that – get out and ride. Less traffic in the North than South (in my experience).

Can give more specific info / share experience if you want it.

Thats awesome – I’d be so pi55ed off once I’d ridden it because it would be dirty / used but then I couldn’t build it and then not ride it…..but then I couldn’t ride it ‘cus it would get used, but then…..oh the dilemma of it all

    Ok, here goes

    6ft (just under) tall

Try to jump of anything and everything I can find – tables, gaps, drops etc

    Stock stem (50mm I think)

    Ride a Large frame

When it comes to it, I’ll be changing the stock Pikes (140mm) for some 150/160 mm forks, widen the bars a bit and shorten the stem by 20mm or so. Thats about it, other than the fact that I love the bike – it’s coming the to Alps with me this year again

Do Orange 5’s bounce differently to other bikes then?

Back on track, I always thought it was a case of build small and get bigger as you progress – the idea of angles / measuring it defeats the object of learning to build and then ride it ie by building and then riding, it helps you judge jumps much better

Strategically placed crash mats I see – make mental note to self, “where can I get crashmats from………”

Sent mails over some tyres that went into spam folder, then phoned and told “your in’t spam file” without the hint of an apology – I’ve ordered a couple of times in the past (incl this one) and TBH won’t be going there again – for me the service was poor to say the least

Yep – thought it was just me

I’ve found undoing the rail clamp slightly has helped in the past, but then it starts again so I do it up, then it starts again, so then I undo it a bit and it stops for a bit and then starts again…………………………………………………………………………………………………..arghhhhhhhhhh 8O

Too much detail – do a big glug every time I remember, sometimes that’s too often and sometimes it’s too late -it’s bad enough trying to get ready to go out for a ride, without any additional faff

Looking at the times of the faster riders, I’m guessing that it is a fairly rough lumpy course? In which case, tri bars, suits, pointy hats won’t make as much difference as a good position and practice…….find a nice fast course, then it’s possibly worth investing in that kind of stuff.

On my local club 10 course I could only do a short 23, where as my PB is 21.20 but on a fast course, same bike, kit etc.

MK’s do come up much smaller and no way near as grippy – I’ve got a RQ front and MK rear and am thinking of changing as I can’t seem to get the required level of grip on the MK when under heavy braking, so rear end snakes all over the place

Zero RH+ stuff = fabbo IMHO.

Hard to get hold of in the the UK and I haven’t used the specific bike stuff but have used and am using some of the ski kit and it’s the best I’ve ever used. Technically excellent, lightweight and best of all hard wearing. Needs to be though, given the price 8O

I’m runnin RQ 2.2’s and 2.4’s (ST’s) on ZTR flows, and they seal excellently well, as per previous posts are they UST tyres?

I’ve got the Magic Link on a 6″ Coilair and really like it – not used the pro-pedal on the rear shock much. I needed to get the right elastomer insert (which I did) and now wondering about the bearings as mentionded above, but so far no issues :-)

Front wheel in Pic 3, looks, well kinda weird which I’m sure is the angle / lens but I had to double take.

So much so, I wasn’t looking at the scenery, sunshine and excellent single track in all the other pictures…….

Skiing next week in Cervinia, and there is snow, lots of it, and more forecast :D

Miners Bar will ring the local chinese for you (who deliver) lay on plates, cutlery and a table if you buy their beer.

Think they have a whole host of other takeaways who’ll also deliver as well…………..

Over-ordered last time (hard days ride, no proper food, to knackered to drive anywehre) and ended up feeding the masses in the bar!!!

PS if you think the male locals are interesting, wait ’till it’s ladies night in the bar – never seen, heard or expereinced anything like it 8O

Rest until your HR gets back to normal levels, or ride / run at a very low intesity ie <60% MHR, until it does return – if you read the books about training with HR that is. IMHO it’s what I’d do……….
