There is no way warked XC at Les 2 Alpes, so my guess is that you would need to get a guide. It’s all DH of varying gnarr-ness. As it’s close to Alp D’huez there is probably quite of lot of XC in the area and the tourist info office at Bourg D’oisson there are some routes posted up etc – however they seemed to be in the valley rather than in the mountain.

Having said all that, for DH stuff I loved Les 2 Alpes, and think it’s awesome. Very quiet, nice trails, remote at the top and plenty going on in resort.

Some uplifts and lairy riding around Lake Garda – look at this link Garda Bike Link[/url] to get started…

Trentino Alps (Dolomites) must have stacks of riding as it’s a majot ski destination….but other than that can’t add anything useful.

Italian Coast (San Remo way) has some riding / trails / uplifts / companies, sure someone will be along here soon enough to post up.

Price wise, have found the same as you France, Switzerland very expensive when compared to Italy, Austria etc on things like food, fuel and accommodation

With Planet X just shipping from the USA and recent expansion there and buying up various frame makers / producers my guess would be cashflow…

I wouldn’t try anything in a ride/race/event that I hadn’t already tried in training. Even on longer or more organsied rides where they have free feedstops I tend not to take on board which gels/bars are offered as you never know………

+ 1 more for Rubber Queen Black Chilli 2.4’s.

Took them to France / Italy this summer for loads of DH stuff on a 160mm bike, ran them around 25-30psi and no issues. 2nd year I’ve done this also. More of issues with the Rims dinging (ZTR Flows) and the tyres stayed sealed.

Wouldn’t run them to ride up anywhere I don’t think though.

Welcome to the world of Thompson, nice as they are.

As above, and also if the post is a long way out of the frame (even though it might not be at it’s upper limit) a longer post may be the solution so that more of the post is in the bike.

Got a pair of 2.0’s UST on my XC bike – pretty quick (not as quick as a small block eight, quicker than a captain S-works) and IMHO certiainly quicker than your high roller / advantage combo.

The rubber is very hard, so I’m guessing in the wet (roots etc) I’d need to do something with pressures.

As an all-round (non mud specific tyre) XC tyre – I really rate then

StefMcDef – about 15 or 20 minutes depending on how bouncy your bike is….go up Coxford Road (away from Southampton) and as soon as it turns to gravel, couple of hundred yeards on the left is gas station / mast thingy – simples………

Ride at Lordswood last night, and it’s all looking a little bit overgrown in parts, and also very very very muddy in places – so much so, I came off a good few times and was finding it hard to maintain any speed.

Workmans looking OK, but well dug; Star Wars was muddy at the bottom and top but ok in the middle.

Lots of logs had been “strategically” placed over the trails as well so was clearing as we were going – hope that’s not the shape of things to come

Came off 3 times last night riding, due to mud and wrong tyres.

Front wheel wedged in a deep pool of claggy mud, that stopped me dead.

Trails (local to me) looking pretty grim – and I live on the dry, sunny south coast…….

As above, if the money goes to trail development then a small payment from multiple people is a great way to raise much needed cash.

If it was pay on exit with a barrier as opposed to pay and display it might add a level of security that currently isn’t there?

Structured training programmes are the right way to go IMHO and especially as you have a goal in mind. Plenty of written word stuff out there (quick search of Amazon reveals loads) and this is just as good, advice wise, as any online stuff. Put a plan in place, get a HRM, keep a diary and track/review progress. Either get a coach (with the money saved) or better still upgrade bike stuff

Just bought a new one Voltage FR20, from Evans and it’s arrived (just). I’ve unpacked it, and ridden up and down the street a bit and first impressions are it’s awesome……..great spec, great value and very very green. Get’s a good write up, been out in the USA for a bit – adjustable gemoetry so can run anything from 130mm to 200mm rear suspension, so assume the front fork will match? Mind you at 40lbs for the bike, 130mm would seem miniscule

The Garmin records rides rather than the Polar where you could put specific timings / intervals / targets. I use the Edge 500, but tape (with masking tape) my workout details to the top tube and rip them off when done.

Lot of clothes with the same slogan on it – and the bag you get from the shop when you buy something is signed by a clutch of pro-riders and carries on in much the same way.

There is the Alfine one, that just puts some tension on the chain (no spring) by adjusting it and then doing up the bolt. Tension can go over the top or underneath the jockey wheel. Works on the bolt through axle of the Alfine, but if you undo the middle bolt it can mount on the drop out (unless running on a single speed frame).

Having explained all that, it Sh**e and you would suffer as you do now. Bashed mine in a couple of times and it wears badly.
