What’s rubbish about the cable routing then?

    – Mr Blobby, look at Northwinds’s picture – that pretty much explains it.

I’m running my 456 with an Alfine and 130mm Tora’s as a winter ride, and I’m having to take the cables for Alfine round the left of the bars and under the top tube, and with the rear brake, I’m running the cable along the down tube, but there are only 2 (or 3?) cable fixing points and I’ve used zip ties on the caliper cable – the front mech would need to follow the same path if I had one…So, it’s functional rather then asthetic, as per Northwinds pics

I have a carbon one (and a steel one, out on loan) and really, really rate the carbon one more than the steel one. Plenty of give in the right kind of way, and none when needed – sort of hard to explain but doesn’t ride like my old steel one does, it’s much more supple.

that was a really rather awesome video, did she really stick her finger in his back?

I never got that far with the video and now I’m torn, watch and heave and check out the finger insertion, or trust your comment….. 8O

Am away quite a bit and bike in car or store at hotel never a problem. Usually use a GPS and ride off road, just plut a route and follow the line. I try to make sure I have enough water, spare food in my room or car just in case, and take plenty of bags for cold, wet, muddy kit – tend to rinse out in the hotel shower also….( :?)

These days I seem to have a bit more choice on where I stay so base my location where I want to ride rather than mega close to where the work is…

I’ve done it with a set of 970’s and used the middle ring space, 36T, with an XC chain guide on an Inbred. Bought some cheap, short chainring bolts from the LBS and it’s been fine.

I’m off to get some pictures

If you want full on gnarr, like jumping off kerbs, hitting speedbumps, bunny hopping drain covers then you’ll need a chainguide IMHO.

If you are into less lairy stuff then you should be OK

I have to give thanks and credit for what went in to making today’s route and trail quality simply fantastic……as for the balmy 14deg, sunshine and dryness it’s got to go down as one of the best days riding in a long time

Had a steel one that I originally put 130mm forks on and then changed for 100mm forks and now I have a carbon one with 130mm forks.

Can’t explain why, but the 130’s work much better and if it helps I’ve since purchased an Inbred and put 100’s on there and I think it fly’s.

Point being I think the 456 runs much better with a longer fork, just based on me riding the thing

Book the VAX from your local Morrisons for a couple of weeks time, start haggling for a pay rise to pay for the extra carpet cleaning products

I’ve got a 2008 Coilair with a magic link on an air shock and yeah….it rides pretty well. I found going up needed to pro-pedal on and going down I couldn’t really tell if it was or wasn’t working other than the bike felt pretty stable. It’s taken some pretty big hits, so I’m assuming it’s done what it needs to.

The only thing I would add is that the elastomer thingy that the spring butts up against makes a really squeeky rub noise when the bike is bobbing, took me ages to work out what it was so now have to put a silicone type spray on it and then that collects the dirt, which adds to wear etc – not ideal but solved the squeek

Can’t do pics (as I don’t know how) but…..mines built up with 100mm forks, flat’ish carbon bar and a slightly rising stem, 1X9 with BB chain guide thingy and whilst my intention was to race on it, I seem be riding it quite a lot.

It’s my 1st one, (had 2 X 456’s) and for whatever reason I really like the way it rides.

I’m off to investigate how to upload pictures……..

Thank you ciderinsport, I think you have managed to convey what the NEWFORCE club is really about when:-

    lucien – tool

    – I think that’s a bit of name calling, tut tut

    And also: –

ps. you have also pissed off the membership sec during this thread!

    – I’m assuming that’s meant as some kind of threat to my membership?

Who needs to grow up here?

Now thats really funny from a guy who asks loads of questions, loads of times and never turns up

Oh yeah, the three times (that’s loads btw) I’ve asked with questions like “how long is the ride”, “what sort of distance and pace”, “what route” etc has been met with either a purile response, no information or my posts deleted from NF forum. That’s what I call a friendly response…..

As I’ve said before that’s “up your own ar*e” in my book

Good luck with the Newforce lot, I’ve found them difficult to contact, hard to engage and basically up their own ar*e when it comes to sharing info on rides etc.

I’ve had my photo taken by the ranger in the NF – went back for a bit more in the same ride, unfortunately they’d all gone.

Been stopped a couple of times with the “do you know you are not allowed to cycle here” by verderers and some of the campsite park keepers – my response of “yes, rather silly isn’t it” threw them enough and I simply kept riding.

Often get shouted at, accosted or stopped by walkers, dog-walkers and other pedestrians which is another reason why I tend to cylce with headphones, keep going and never, ever stop to engage.

Sometimes, in the more remote parts or on bad weather days I rarely bump into anyone, you just have to cycle through the busier places to get there though.

And, despite some postings, plenty of singletrack if you know where to find it

It takes at least 3 days from the “despatched mail” for them to: –

-get the packing monkey fired up……and motivated
    – locate said items and see if they are in stock as they have no live system for this
    – construct unfeasibly large packing box
    – place items in box
    – put 2nd class postage on it
    – take to post office
    – sit back and earn interest on your hard earned while you wait another 4 days for the post office to deliver.

I’d suggest ringing them or mailing in them, but you get “customer service” monkeys instead…..

Got one earlier in the year, wore it, sweated my head off, put it in the cupboard and waiting for some colder weather to come.

Other than that, it’s light and very comfy for my head. I’d usally have a 59cm helmet so L/XL good for me. You do get a couple of sets of pads so you can adjust as well (thick and thin ones).

Try before you buy if you can

It’s a lot of money and reckon if you want something for the ups and downs a lot out there thats better and less £££’s.

Ghost popular abroad but don’t see too many in the UK, so would want assurance on warranty etc.

Finishing kit fairly standard stuff and could easlily get on any other bike.

Not much of a bargain from Evans either IMHO

Other, than that it’s fine, fill your boots

I’ve put 160mm Vanilla’s on my Pitch to ride DH in the Alps having spent a couple of weeks riding uphill (and down) in Lake Garda. Handled a dream and go good balance between going up and going down.

I fancy swapping out the air shock for a coil one next……
