I’ve got a Pitch that I’ve taken to the Alps a couple of times now and put 160mm Van R’s on it – kept the RP2 on the back and 150mm of travel. Also put 200mm discs on it and shortened the stem and it’s coped exceptionally well – to the extent that I also have a dedicated DH bike and not sure which I would prefer for a full days riding as I am a weedy 11.5 stones, and after a few hours on a full DH rig, arms are like jelly

Happened to me the last few times with CRC and it’s trying my patience with them……definately tailed off in terms of what I order from them

Short chain ring bolts are mega expensive for what they are – put some Deore rings (34 & 22), plus lightweight bash that came as an OE part on a bike ages ago and was knocking around in the garage – all together works a treat…..should have done it ages ago

Les Deux Alpes is only over the valley (AKA 5 miles away) plenty of groomed and off piste stuff, from full on lairy to easy blues / greens.

Some marked XC stuff to the valley floor as well (into Bourg D’oission) from both Alpe D’huez and Les Deux Alpes – tourist office (in Bourg) has maps to buy for both

In Italy they are compulsory for under 18’s, and possibly France with a lower age limit. A lot of skiers/boarders of all ages wear them these days, and deffo try before you buy. Not worth buying in resort either, unless you have cash to burn, much cheaper online or in shops within the UK

Just bought Deore ones and fitted them to my XT cranks – in that combo as a double with lightweight bash, can’t fault it and worked a treat

For the Pitch, I’m 5ft 11′ and ride a large.

I also have a Canyon Nerve Xc in a large, so am able to compare the two. TBH I really rate both bikes, but they ride very differently. The Canyon has racing geometry, so great going up hill, great on down/flat singletrack – not so good in the air and when it gets steep / rough.

For the Pitch, I run mostly with the 140mm Pikes it came with and use it whenever I go to places like Afan as I don’t mind a bit of harder work going up and definately enjoy a faster going down. I’ve also put some 160mm forks and bigger brakes on the Pitch and taken accross the channel and used in the Alps for some proper downhill stuff and it performed exceptionally well.

If I had to choose one, it would be the Pitch

CRC have a “massive footwear and helmet clearance” on……if you can bear to use them?
