Thanks for the tips guys, some good advice and really appreciate it. The Inbred 29’er has rack and guard mounts, and also there is a rigid fork option – it would be the cheapest bike for me to get up and running. A mid-range tourer is looking like £1500 or so….?

Inbred 29’er is looking a bit fave for this ride, most of the bits I have to add on so would just need the frame and rigid fork – am I going down the wrong road for a commute with flat bars?

    zbonty –

Which area of Thames path btw?

    – I’m going from Chertsey to Kensington High St, so as much of it as I like really – mainly Hammersmith, Mortlake, Brentford to Twickenham looks promising as I’d prefer to stay off main roads.

Tourer looking favourite at the moment……

Good point MSP, 4X type racing in any sport is a great crowd pleaser / spectator event – just look at XC skiing, border cross, ski cross, BMX – all events that are growing and attracting sponsorship / riders and plenty of races. UCI have definitely missed the plot on dropping 4X… 🙄

As the old saying goes, best way to get a small fortune in the bike business is to start with a bigger one. You’d need a prime location to attract bike commuter traffic – stand at the side of the road, count the cycles going by, then apply a tiny percentage that might get a repair problem, then divide that by the number of days you are open, by then you may realise that you won’t get enough trade this way to make it worthwhile…..imho

What’s wrong with making a neeeeoooow sound or a brm brm sound as you go past someone, like we did in the old days. That’s the problem with modern society, a gadget for everything

I’ve been looking at the Van RC for mine, along with some 160mm forks, fo more DH type stuff – seems the best value for my type of riding, just saving my pennies.

I’ve got a small wallet and you are welcome to. After I’ve paid for house, car, kids, food, travel, fu****g tax, even fuc***** greedier utility providers, – there is so little left I’ve no need for mine

Alex, has it occurred to you that I do ride it fast, that I have some experience of riding in a variety of terrain, and that it is genuinely boring, improving? A post earlier states a guy riding a CX bike around it, and it’s supposed to be a red graded trail ffs.

I did 3 laps in under 2 hours last week…..and it wasn’t that technical, it was dry and I was pushing hard. The new section, after you cross the road near the start that follows a fence line is literally some tarmac / gravel about a metre wide.

Try, flat uninspiring and the weather “proofed” sections are like a standard bit of tarmac? If you like that sort of thing, fill your boots… 😯

@ Plyphon, LW (Lordswood) good in the dry and grimsville in the wet – needs a bit of maintenance to get it back to where it once was 😥

Have you tried any thing north of LW (Hut Wood) there are a few trails or Stoke Park Wood (Bishopstoke) has some trails in it but not been that way for years

Cheers, looking at the map there are loads of bridleways criss crossing the common, so surprised with the wardens etc, understand about the horses though.

Am I the only one on ‘ere that would be proper sh1tting it clipped in on a WC DH course?

At those speeds and my skills levels – yes, without a doubt.
However, it’s all progressive…at my speed and my skills yes I would ride a DH course clipped in. But it’s horses for courses, and much more about what you feel comfortable with / in / on.

There are also a couple of “Enduro” routes posted on the Alp D’Huez summer website, so whilst gravity based would involve some climbing – it’s only over the valley and there is a chair from Vajauny (sp) I think..

I love my joystick (not sure which model)…however on it’s own it’s not enough for riding. The beam is very long / narrow – exactly what you need from a headtorch. On the bars, it would be grim as it’s a headtorch. It lasts well, can switch between bright and non-bright with gloves on and it’s easy to get on / off. Not sure what else to add…..

I’m assuming the frame is alloy and the post is steel? Have you tried heating and cooling to release the post a bit as this may give some movement that can be worked on?

My bike bag will take a frame with a seat post (no saddle) in it, if I remove the chainset?

Unless you want a new frame of course, in which case I reckon it’s stuck solid
