As many others have already said, car/campervan/motorhome/caravan options are all compromised somewhere if you want to multi use.  It’s a case of really thinking about the things you are likely to do, where and when, and then what you can live with and without.  Many make all permutations work, and seem happy – just be clear about what you want to do and it will make decision making easier.

Another recommendation for the Plantronics BackBeat – been going strong for 3.5 years, without a glitch – charge well and play for about 8 hours between charges

Plenty will, be attempting on way less training, so ride and enjoy it.  The day itself and atmosphere will carry you along also.

A comfortable one….but I can’t see any bike being “comfortable” after 24 hours

Given that I live in the MTB metropolis of central London, stairs are as technical as my riding gets sometimes….

Agreed with  most of what has come before, and a few observations from owning and using one over the last year or so.

It’s not portable, thats it – we’ve got a small one, and even with that its not portable.

Its taken a few goes of stuff to learn how to use it and get it right – it does way more than cook burgers.  If thats what you want it for, get something else.  Done a few “long and slow” joints, and it’s be bloody amazing

It won’t hold a high heat for ages to give you a proper chargrill as the whole thing gets so hot – ie it works like a kiln.

Size wise, get one that will do a whole cook including corn / veg if thats what you like

As with all charcoal BBQs it takes a while to light and heat up – some careful planning needed as to when you eat etc.

Enjoy, food taste and texture is amazing

Dinner table scene (ep2) and youth club “bits” comments (ep3) genuinely funny parts in what was a grim series overall.  Not sure I could recommend. Acting was outstanding – thats all I can say really.

    .

“I thought Joe’s sister was hilarious”  – actress is Niamh Algar and also had a big part in C4 series called “Pure” where she was also excellent.

Went last year, and rode most days (MTB) both in group rides and then latterly on my own.  Group rides very stop start.  Terrain is hilly, dusty and dry and challenging in parts.  I’d give it a 5 our of 10 on the technical, it’s only the steepness that makes it more challenging.  Trek hardtails are a bit grim if yoy ride anything better, with Deore groupsets and 120mm forks.  Well maintained, but thats about it.  Took pedals, shoes, helmet, backpack last time – if we went again then I’d be more inclined to take a bike as carriage with Neilson was cheap.

It all depends on the time of day, and where you cross the river.  I’d go Greenwich foot tunnel and the CS3 to Westminster and pick up CS8 to Wandsworth.  All on purpose built cycle lanes, pretty direct and safest. If you are not that used to road riding riding in traffic and other road users, this seems the best option.

    Oil is oil surely?

Such as when you’re 100 miles into a dry dusty road ride and your chain is dry and grating, dripping some olive oil from your lunch on to it as a lube to see you through the rest of the ride.

Obviously it is best to use the correct stuff, but when needs must you have to improvise.

The only problem being is that after a while the oil heats up and smells like lunch is cooking….

About half way up that climb, you now divert to the left for a tiny bit of uphill single track- a few years ago that wasnt there, so count yourself lucky. I agree of course with you OP, it goes on and on, even when you get to the crossroads it goes on some more, and then at the very end these is a mega steep wall to climb, before final descent….

I use them, for everyday as well – they do take some getting used to as the magnification is based on the dilation of your pupil, as opposed to glasses where its based on where you look (up/down etc). Moving from close to far, or light to dark I need to take a few seconds to adjust and blink a bit, I don’t even notice now. Other than that, I find them a good compromise for what I need to do.

Another for contact lenses, and have needed glasses for 30+ years. Never has a problem with anything getting behind the lens with either wearing or not wearing any other eye protection. Obviously better with….

For those that have asked, we’ve bought this Wellhouse
    ..
We’ve already started to look at Airbeam Awnings, as we are planning some longer (static) trips Awning
    ..
Finally, given the general poor security of the transit, alarm (cat 1) plus steering wheel lock are also on the list.
    ..
We won’t get it unitl mid-April, although I own the van now. Wellhouse so far have been excellent to deal with.
