Should get to ride mine for the first time on Sunday after it gets built up tomorrow (very kindly on borrowed wheels whist I wait for my LB rims).

I can’t find anything on how to set up the rear shock? I see the sag marker thing, I take it a good starting point is enough air in the shock to get that to 30% and then play around with the rebound etc?

Our dog, Elmo, is far to soft/sensible/scared to beat anything he should not. But he has a friend, also a dog, called barney, or more commonly bumfun barney as he likes to get his nose as far up Elmo’s arse as he can. Bumfun barney loves a nice tasty glove, once he nicked the glove off my hand and gobbled it down. Unfortunately the glove dislodged the child’s dummy he’d eaten the week before, which perferoated his intestine so he had to have an operation……he still eats gloves

I’ve got a small ensuite that I’m doing I thought it would be done my the end of Christmas (i.e about a week), it is still not done – not because it is taking ages but because I can’t be arsed. I have ridden my bike loads though. I’ve got everything plumbed in and 2/3 or the room tiled (all walls floor to ceiling) and thats taken about 5 days so far. I think I need 3 full days to finish it (but its nice weather tomorrow).

The thing that takes me the longest is the mental planning – standing in the middle of the room staring at something for 30mins whilst you work out the best way to do it. Things like where to start tiling etc. Once you get going its allright. it was much easier before the kids too, now I feel like I’m missing out if I spend a whole weekend doing DIY.

Hmmm 8.26 on the long one, might have over estimated my ability to go fast.

Got/had mine on ensure as a specified item. It was nicked from an integral garage last week and they have been very good with a very expensive bike! They farm the bike stuff out to wheelies, who take the spec and cost it all up at RRP. You can then choose to take a bike of that value directly supplied by wheelies or take the cash. But if you take the cash they knock off 20%. They can’t supply everything so can’t get the tallboy I had so I’m in the process of deciding what to do. Considering you can get components with much more than 20% off RRP on line I’m thinking of taking the money.

I miss living there – LS you must live near the miner Arms – I used to work there from 1993 to about 1997/1998.

Scary stuff! I have a pump, shock pump and hard tools in the backpack normally. Will worry about these now, making me think about the roady too – recently started to take a pump in my back pocket.

We got proper micro ones for our 2. The youngest was fine on it from 2.5 years (wants to keep up with his older brother). The 5.5 year old is ready for a proper mrp skate park one now, if it wasnt for the folding (useful for taking on hols) I might have been been tempted to get the full on skatepark one from the start as they are better quality

NOAH was telling the architect that the walls were easy to knock down – maybe the walls will be knocked down. Carol to go mental at wifebeater, try to run him over with Daryls new motorbike – miss him, knock the wall down and have a mass of walkers come in and eat half the cast. Next season to start with the remaining cast (Rick with new lady friend holding his baby) roaming the streets heading to Washington………maybe.

I love frozen – best threat ever for a 5.5 year old boy is the threat of a frozen party. “if yo carry on hitting your brother you will have a frozen party and have to dress up like a princess”.

Bank holiday at Whinlatter won’t make much difference if you stay/park at the bottom (Braithwaite) and ride up the bridleway. its the car park that gets busy (and that’s massive now anyway). Starting from Braithwaite means you get a decent enjoyable (I enjoy it!) climb to the top of the north loop. Its pretty much 6 miles of off road climbing, which is all rideable, then a good downhill, then shorter climb to top of south loop then all downhill home.

I usually leave an hour – always end up with enough time on the other side of security to get a sandwich and have a piss. If its Stansted then security is supershite (especially if leaving before 9am) so I’d allow 15mins extra……I HATE Stansted.

baton the wall out, dry line and run the 15mm pipes behind that, you only loose 20mm of room space and have the option to stick insulation behind the dry lining too (batons can then obviously be thicker for more insulation). Or just box in a corner of a room.

For the horizontal runs, run the pipes behind the skirting – just don’t plaster board as far down as normal and leave a space for them.

Copper pipes and concrete don’t mix as they will corrode and you’ll get tiny holes in the pipes.

I got some Spesh Tyres in the amnestry last year. A 2.3 Purg for the front and 2.1 Ground control for the rear, both control casings. the Purg has been great but the ground control isn’t man enough for the Peaks and lakes. I like it in that its light and fast and grippy enough but I ripped the sidewall and following a patch repair I then managed to rip a knob off in the lakes the other weekend.

So I’ve got a Butcher for the front and will put the purg on the rear. Might be tempted to get some spares in the amnesty this year too (especially if they do the Grid version).

Currently have the smooth 5:10’s used to have the Shimanos. the 5 10’s are loads more comfy for me, bigger around the toes so they were not cold in the snow at the weekend. loads of grip on the peddles and on wet rocks………

Absolutely no grip on snow or ice which made carrying a bike up lake District hills fun

My 35mm LB 29er hookless rims have been fine with spesh tyres and a track pump (apart from a leak around the valve)

I have some of the Shimanos that Chapaking linked too, mine are the wide fitting. I got them for about £100 in a sale a couple of years ago and they have been great; fit well, no pressure spots and comfy for rides of 1 hour to 8 hours. First road shoes I’ve had mind

Just fitted a side hinged cartech steel insulated door yesterday. Basically like a big set of patio doors, with 2 skins of powdercoated steel with 40mm of insulation in between. Frame is all metal too obviously. Feel quality in use, means I can hang bikes on the wall behind the inactive side (the side that opens second that I will rarely use). Also means its dead quick and easy to use. The Garage door is now a second front door where muddy dogs, bike riders and kids can go. Also means I can open just half to door with out showing everyone what’s in there! Disadvantage is that you need space on the drive to open the doors.

Freemotion have a load of rides that they can tell you about when you hire the bike, most start with the road out the north of playa Del lngles that me hero mentions. Have a look on bikely, strava etc for the routes so you can get them on your GPS before you go.

My wife is from las Palma’s so I’ve been loads but only ever done one ride. It was in the summer and very hot, I had to stop to buy water to pour on my head! You’ll be OK at this time of year but it will still be warm. Once out of town (about 5 mins) the roads are amazing, so smooth, twisty and quiet. I hired a cannondale super 6 and rode up the mountain turned left and came back down and back along the old coast road, about 40 miles and it was a great ride. It was the 6th one down here[/url].

I’d have thought walking and pushing a bike uphill could put more strain on the tendon? I know when I push in the peak I can feel the stretch in my Achilles……but I’ve not hurt mine so I don’t really know.

Our 5.5 year old is currently on a beinn 20, which he got when he was about 5, he’s fairly tall for his age and the bike has been fine. He went from a rothan to a cnoc16 for his 3rd birthday. He was only just the right size for the 16 but it was a good decision as he rode it straight away ad continued to do so for 2 years.

his 3.5 year old brother went from the rothan to 16 at 3 too and did a 6 mile ride as his second ride on it (ice cream half way of course). We then swapped it for his 5 year old cousins cnoc14 as his cousin had a go on the 16 and it was very good for him. But the 3.5 year old is now really missing the 16 as he is trying to keep up with his brother on the 20. its things that you don’t think of, the cranks are shorter which means his legs spin so much faster and hes spinning the gear out really easily now.

So i’d probably go for the larger bike….

My 3 and 5 years old boys love a loop of the blue followed by a go on the playground and an ice cream. I’d say its really good for family rides, not too much uphill that the 3 year old can’t do it and not too steep downhill that they are likely to go too fast and fall off. It’s got enough bumps and berms that its interesting for the kids to ride. I wouldn’t go there on my own to ride but would take the bike if I was going anyway.

I’d be interested to see if you could get some trails in the ‘local park’, if its where I think it might be then it would be the closest hills to me (I ride the road bike round that way but not the MTB).

I would try keeping everything in utm (or whatever the blue gird is in, Norway does use utm but I think it is their own version as the country spans a few utm zones), don’t bother with wgs84just now. Put the gcp on an intersection and type in the x and y, the more you do the better it should be, the minimum is 3. You should not need a complex polynomial as you are not warping it too much ( the source file is not going to be too distorted as it was a referenced map). Out put with a worldfile, this is an auxiliary file which tells the image where to go, although this info may also be in the image itself. Once its in the right place in utm you can there project it to wgs84.

    Nice dog!

Let her off the lead when she is a puppy (as in the pics), then hide from her when she’s not looking and let her find you. Then get two of you, stand 10 or 20 meters apart and and call her from one to other. Give her loads of fuss and treats (cut up hot dog sausages or home made liver cake) when she comes. We did loads of this when our was young and really paid off. Too many dogs are not allowed off the lead as the owner thinks it will run off – that’s shite for everyone so let them off when young and train them to come back. I also spent a lot of time teaching him not to pull on the lead, it was boring and frustrating but when I walk my parents dogs I realise how worthwhile it was.

I now walk our dog off the lead all the time and I meet too many dogs who’s owners say “oh what a good dog you’ve got, I wish I could let mine off the lead”. Some even say this in the middle of a massive park. My default answer is “Yes, he is a very good dog”, but it should be “well put the **** effort in to training your dog then”.

So put the effort in over the next 2 years and it will pay back massively over the next 10 years. The training time also creates a massive bond between the dog and you and that’s what it’s all about!

I had some, which have been worn on about 9 rides including a week of alpine riding. Alps involved long ups and downs so gave them a proper test round the same trails as the trans savoie. Worn knee pads for 10 years asfter busting a knee. Had 661 kyle straights for 5 years. Trail skins are comfier to ride in all day, had a little bit of cutting on the back of knees after 6 hours or so. The 661s were skinning to top of my knees after a ride so could ride on consecutive days. Fell off twice in the alps, they do not offer as much protection. I felt the first fall more than I would with the 661s. Second fall I managed to bang ba rock right between the big pad on the front and smaller one on side and got a big bruse, but better than nothing. I’m choosing to ride with these over the 661s as I think they offer a good compromise between comfort and protection

Road ride yesterday morning followed by burger in Nottingham contemporary with family before getting oldest new footy boots.

Marshilling for a 10k this morning, really good bike ride with the kids and dog this afternoon. We did about 5 miles with 2 miles off road, not bad for a 5 and 3 year old! Came home and played superheros on the trampoline (I was superman and then the green goblin). 3 year old asked to go to bed at 6 so did something right.

Looking forwards to doing what’s in that top pic with my 2!
