Is long as it is a comparable speed chain, i.e. 9spd chain & 9spd Powerlink.

8O FLIPPING HECK! Well done on the weight loss!

You are one laid back person! I would love to have your approach to life – and I’m not taking the Mickey! Maybe my work makes me the way I am, perhaps chilling a little would help my situaton?

I’ve cut out bread completely for the last 7 weeks

Crisps, no issues giving up – BUT, bread? Mmmm? Suppose I’ll have too!

I use the Lizard Skin carbon ones that ‘oreetmon’ has mentioned and have to agree, for the money they seem to last and I don’t mind spending a bit when they last TBH.

Worth noting: I found that the heli tape is good for shiny frames, but just doesn’t work on my annodised frame (even the anno specific one??), jut in case yours is too?

As long as you don’t cut your calorie intake by a drastic amount (talking more than 20%), and you maintain that approach, you will lose weight…

Is that right….20%? I’ve always cut about 1000 calories, i.e. down to 1500 a day, but have found that I can’t sustain it – is that because I have tried to cut to much?

so if i had to give one simple piece of advice to get you there it would be to start a diary with all your exercise and all your food and drink that you consume.
This will help you realise what areas need improving and give a more honest record of your lifestyle.

    Good idea – thank you.

Not sure how useful it would be mountain biking? Good in open area riding and I know we are not always in the wooded areas – but we do spend a great deal of time amongst the trees?

I use the Crank Brothers Iodine wheelset and they have 6 pawls as opposed to the 4 pawls on Pro2 and because the system uses an alternating 3 pawl engagement you get a massive 48 clicks per revolution, against a 24 clicks per revolution on the pro 2 – I feel like I am getting instant engagement!

Does it annoy you or just worried you’re going to die ?

A bit of both! I had a bad accident a year or so ago and DO NOT want a repeat! It can also be bloody annoying – but I suppose it was more about me not wanting it to destroy my brake pads/calipers in anyway if it was the disc?

The general census seems to be not to worry about it? So the questions is can I???

Does that mean you have 9mm front & 12mm back? i.e. 9mm QR size axle on front and 12mm through axle on the back?

I’m with you CH – I love SRAM, never a fail for me…. where as Shimano, couldn’t go on a ride without a failure!

Bigger (i.e. thicker) grips sorted the exact same issue out for me!

These are now the ones I use and they are great…. CLICKY! :-)

Don’t be put off by the odd negative comment about the Endura stuff – you’ll get it on anything you post on here – everyone has an opinion and people will have had different experiences with different manufacturers, so good and bad points will always be raised….

I use Endura stuff (not a jacket), but shorts & short liners and NEVER had any issues with them and I would imagine the shorts would take more of a hammering over time than a jacket??

What really bothers me with mine is that it’s so unstable

I found this when I packed the bag for the first time – but I turned the bike around so the forks were nearer the carry handle and not the wheel end of the bag (if you know what I mean) and….

    Hey presto! Stability!

Usually use the CRC Bike Bag, with box inside. Takes my full suss (Heckler with 140mm fork. Never let me down and now travelled around a bit!

If I were you – bang for buck – go for Shimano XT all round!

EDIT: I run Shimano XT chainrings (the 22t is Middleburn) with SRAM Cassette PG990 & SRAM PC971 Chain as I find them more reliable, i.e. the cassette has lasted longer than my old XT and the chain has not snapped once (which the Shimano equivalent did on several ocassions) – but it depends on your budget??

Bad Luck buddy! Hope you’re back on the bike soon – I have sympathy on the pain of a broken foot….last year I broken mine pretty badly in an MTB accident (and I was in a cast & on crutches for 6 months! 8O ), but it will get better and you’ll be back on the bike before you know it!

These pics are ‘after’ it has been ‘fixed’!

Hey buddy – if I can help, just fire me an email….

I rode there last year and am riding there again this year in September.

You will need to get a Day Pass to ride Tamarancho from Fairfax Cyclery ($5), but if Charlie is around he will certainly show you where to go etc. to get this, but it is pretty easy to find on the main road.

This is the link showing some of the Tamarancho stuff we did – LINKY!

+1 Endura Singletrack – not as light as others agreed (not much in it though) however, thare VERY comfortable & VERY well ventilated, I used them whilst riding in USA during VERY hot conditions and they were GREAT!

I was off the bike from Sept 2009 until April 2010 due to a bad MTB injury, all I did in the meantime was buy new bits for the bike and fettle with it until I was able to ride again. :D

By the time I was riding again I had a brand new bike! So there is an upside! Get well soon.

Can really see how riding ‘AM type stuff’ rather than ‘out & out XC’ would effect the chain.

Not really sure myself? But maybe the chain slapping bout all over the place on the tech stuff whist having force applied? And with XC riding I would expect a more consistent force on the chain? Who knows, all I know is mine snapped! (on more than one occasion!!)

The hollow pin failed on me a couple of times, but then I was riding probably a bit more ‘AM type stuff’, rather than ‘out & out XC’? As a result I don’t trust the hollow pin anymore (but that’s personal) and have now ridden the PC971 without issue for the last 12 months.
